Android box for TV Why ?

Others have tried to convince me this is the way to go when wanting to see TV from around the world. I have seen boxes all over the place all difference prices and IPTV service as well at all different price levels depending on what you want to see. My question is why do i need a box ? Or why does any one for that matter?

I have been downloading torrents for years using P Torrents. I have always been a donor to their site as it has served me well. about 6 months ago when i went into their web site i saw a Ad for their IPTV service. No box needed ll seen thru the free VLC media player that can be downloaded on line. The torrent site is free but you have to be a donor to get the IPTV service. They walk you thru the process to get started and it is very very easy. I donate 10 US a month or about 300 Baht and get this service. I have seen some services that need a box cheaper and some costing more. It is very good for me I am running  PCs all connected to a 55 in Big screen TV as well as a 32in TV which i use as my Monitor. So the TV signal can be broadcast thru either or both. In Thailand no VPN needed and I do not have fiber connection but the old ADSL 50 download 20 upload from True. This service offers you channels in SD HD or UHD so slower PC connections using SD have no issues. I experience very very little problem with Buffering or freezeing when i do i simply click off and back in no problem. I have had this service for about 6 months. Running the 2 TVs I am ale to see 2 different channels same time. Yesterday I watched The Sunday night football game on one and the Baseball World Series sample video below. All PPV broadcasts thousands of Movies Thousands of Porn movies.

I have seen guys posting on Facebook about having their boxes updated well thats a problem i never will face. Here is a list of the channels that can be had.

after you select the channel group you want you see this

8.png9.png

Then click the upload button and the file with all the channels is uploaded to your PC and can be viewed thru VLC media player and will look like this

10.png

Then just click on the station in the group you want to watch. I was teasing Striderman who is a Newcastle fan that I was watching in Ultra HD and he could not see it.

Here is a video of the games yesterday he picture looks distorted but thats due the the editing I needed to do here to post it

So can anyone tell me why I would ever need a Android box ?

I only use 1 PC for work which is "managed" meaning I can't use P2P software including Torrents on there, so using an Android box makes sense to me but may not to you.

Understand that may be the case for some but those with a home PC set up would never need a box

I got given an Android box getting on for 4 years ago, mainly as I had a now ex living here and she liked watching movies. I paid someone from PA to set it up and to be honest the movie side wasn't that bad, the sports side of it was absolutely useless though no matter what I tried, she cleared off so it rarely got used and the last time I tried it it wouldn't do anything so it got slung in a drawer. Last December I upgraded to a smart tv thinking I'd use it a lot more but it hardly gets any use unless the ex comes round and she can watch whatever True are showing, I'm more than happy watching my downloads via my laptop and monitor.

Nowadays if I want to watch anything I'll download it via a torrent site and any sports I want to watch I can stream through a site that so far has performed brilliantly whenever needed.

No need for a box at all.

I've been using a Lanza supplied Minix box for a few years but i have to say i'm moving away from it now i've got a smart TV, my box is so outdated now as it has'nt been upgraded for a couple of years. I've also got Truevisions for all the sport and Nat Geo, History, Animal Plant channels i like to watch, i just can't be asked to f*** around streaming, i've got better things to do, i just pay the dosh and away i go, instant reliable TV.

I have one of Lanza's Minix boxes as well which I have also had for years. It does go out of date as all Apps do eventually but I just pop along to TukCom and leave it with a nice young lady who updates it for me and I collect a couple of hours later for 100 baht plus another 100 baht tip.

It incorporates Kodi and I surprised myself by updating to the latest version and downloading a bunch of add/ons which work fine for films/series, world wide live TV and filth.

HOWEVER, I love my sport and separately I subscribe to HD prime at about 400 baht a month which I added along side the Minix box which gives me great viewing of all EPL/Golf/Motor sport etc etc. The only downside is having to set my alarm for 01:00am to get up and watch the Gooners get done by Leicester. It is even worse now that the clocks have just changed again in the UK. 🤗

Thanks for your post D, i think we have a similar mindset regarding Coms/Android boxes etc, we're both struggling to understand it all lol. I've often been impressed that you take your box along to the little lady in Tukcom and she updates it for you, i wish i had the same facility here in Korat. I'm also useing HD Prime and paying 390bht for viewing Skynews, Skysports news, BBC 1, Youtube music and the occasional footie match not being shown on Truevisions but since i got a smart TV i can view most of my HD Prime viewing without the need for the box thus i could save myself the 390bht. A big plus factor of using the smart TV as opposed to the android box/HD Prime is the pic quality, its very very good. Now i can't use Kodi anymore cos my box is so outdated it won't allow me to update Kodi.

I'm learning more and more everyday with the help of BM Miko as to what my smart TV will allow me to access, watch this space lol

Good for you to wake up at 1am to watch the footie, i can't do it, i'm like a zombie and don't enjoy, and yes it just gets worse with the 7 hour time difference now.

If a box gives the same output and costs $150 USD it would pay for itself in 15 months and last for years.  You have to learn a new system and keep up to speed with what's available however, as otherwise you'll end up "doing a Jambo".

Must admit my thoughts are similar.  The Minix box had its uses and Lanza updated it for me many times but eventually it just stopped working.   I also got bored with the need to update software or download a new named app to get around streaming issues, also the quality of what I wanted was not always first class.

I have HDPRIME which works really well for me here in the UK; I also have a Smart TV which has Freeview which allows me to watch most of what is important to me such as the news etc.

I haven't gone big on a full SKY or Virgin package as nearly everything I need to watch is on my present set up.

I just deleted Kodi then reloaded the latest version using the Browser ( or maybe firefox) within the Minix box. I then did a search on UTube for the latest Kodi Addons making copious notes from the UTube video's so I could load them into Kodi. Being IT illiterate it took me a few goes to work out how to do it but if I can do it then anybody can. 🤣

Maybe I will get a smart TV as well.

Keep telling me how good yours is which will tip me over. 🤗

I still download torrents but mostly just for music.

Where can I find this lady's shop in Tuckom?

Does she sell the boxes as well?

I want one and ideally fully loaded as I'm a lazy bastard.

If the shop mentioned is the one I think it is, it's on the ?3rd? floor.... as you come off the escalator turn hard left and it's there. (Ground floor is general stuff, then phones, then this one, then Mr DIY.... I think!) Yes, she sells boxes. Its against the outer wall, not in the middle of the store, glass counter at the front with demo machines behind , TV on right hand end, various signs for the options available. Lady there spoke good English, and basically told me that my condo internet wasn't up to it so not to bother, so I didn't!

I have a Nvidea Shield box which is superb and set to auto update. The content has very high resolution 4k and many streaming services including everything a TV or Firestick has and more.

The Minix was excellent in its day, but as commented here, it became outdated quickly when Minix upped their model range, and stopped firmware upgrades. Thus many new apps simply wouldn't work.

I’ve just started using airtvworld.com instead of HDPrime as I was getting a lot of buffering during big  events, F1, MotoGP etc.
Did a 3 day trial of airtv and was impressed, never had a single buffering and the picture quality is excellent, also has catch-up and movie/series video on demand.
A bit more expensive at €28 month or can pay a year for €170 but worth it for me for the quality and no mad panic trying to find another server just when the action is starting 😂

Its on the second or third floor. Just look to your left as you come off the escalator.

Yes they do sell pre-loaded boxes at a very reasonable price.

Got a couple of those firesticks with IPTV in my condo in Bangkok, Brilliant for sport and all the football and you get loads of movies and Tv series on it as well. The guy I get mine from has a telegram group and every morning he puts up posts with every game that day or any sport taking place and what channel you will find it on. This is a screenshot of what he sent for some of the games tonight. They are good for all the PPV boxing and UFC as well.

...I have the himedia type boxes.  I’ve only used mine to watch movies from.

Does these type of boxes including Minix boxes allow you to stream live tv for free??? or is this still a downloading device?

thx

...do pre-loaded boxes already have the apps?

what do you actually get with a “pre-loaded box” and what does that do?  what is the benefit of these pre loaded features?  Is this free ? or I have to still pay a membership fee?

thx
