BRITISH AIRWAYS / THAI AIR or NON DIRECT OPTION

I've been thinking about booking for the mid/end July 2021 which some may say is optimistic but I believe will be achievable. In what format that maybe and at what level of hassle factor is more of a question mark. I'm hoping it will be just a fit to fly permit pus insurance, but what will be will be.

My wife is keen to get back to see family and i really fancy a nice long break as we missed out on any holidays these last 9 months

We normally fly direct with EVA Air (last 5 years) and prior to that a mixture of Thai and Eva. At present, EVA are coming in very dear compared to the other two so I am considering reverting to Thai or choosing, perhaps a non direct middle eastern airline.

Feck knows what's happening with THAI Air but I would imagine they would be back flying in 8 months time and bailout by the govt. Never flown with BA but understand they fly with a Dreamliner, so could be an option.

Just wondered if any sage BM's would offer thoughts.......

BA still doesn't have authority to travel into Thailand but that may change next year, they are showing schedules but still subject to authority. The airlines with government approval are as follows:

The airlines selling tickets to Thailand are Emirates, Qatar Airways, Etihad Airways, Cathay Pacific, Singapore Airlines, Lufthansa, Swissair, Austrian Airlines, EVA Air and KLM.

I was thinking of going with the family in Summer but have changed my focus to Christmas 2021.  We may have had the vaccine before summer but it appears Thailand won't be vaccinating their nationals until after Easter and I am just concerned about some form of quarantine still being part of the deal.  I just don't want to book and invest about £2000 for the family for a 3 week holiday as Porn will be working at that time.

I would recommend booking with Emirates or Qatar because they are flying people with CoE into Bangkok daily already, and with multiple flights per day you do not need to worry if your flight gets canceled because they'll just put you on the next one.

BA are using 787-8's on the LHR/BKK route now, I'd go with them as the direct option purely because of this.

I was sceptical about all the fresh air, better pressurisation etc claims about the 787 but after experiencing it many times over the last few years i agree completely, you arrive feeling fresher, more awake, less fatigued and ready to hit the ground running.

I was looking at the summer school holidays and Emirates were offering the best price, probably a couple of hundred pounds cheaper than the competition.  Also, as you mentioned, Emirates have 2 or 3 flights a day while BA, EVA, Thai only have the one flight.

I would be going for the non stop flight if it was just the wife, but for the family a transit stop is acceptable.

Think when we get back to some sort of normality EVA Air prices will come down in price, otherwise they will have empty planes. At the moment I think they are just hoping some will book & pay the hiked prices. Always fly with EVA as I think they are the best, I shall hold out for now.

Qatar have been my go to airline for the last 5 years, can't criticise them. I've only had one problem with the stopover, the plane was 40 minutes late leaving Heathrow and my stopover was only 1hr10 so, by the time we got to Doha we'd not made any time up but there was a staff member asking who was going to Bangkok, she gave us a new boarding pass for a flight 2 hours later and said we could use the business lounge,
