So does anyone actually live in

Prachuap Khiri Khan??

what’s it like ..... I imagine a wonderfully quiet, fishing villlage, but close enough to HH for a bit of fun...

It's the sort of area I would look at if moving long term to Thailand , especially when the Pattaya Hua Hin ferry was running  ... still close enough to Bangkok if you fancied a change of scenery for a couple of days

Trust me you would regret it in the medium to long run. Read what I say and don't believe the other out in the sticks expats as they just want to make you as miserable as themselves. 😂

To start with, you have it completely the wrong way round.

Prachuap Khiri Khan is the kind of place that you VISIT as a change of scenery for a couple of days and then come on the forum with a few photo's of some fields and a hut that doubles as the Village bar and members tell you how nice your photo's are. Except what they/we are really hoping for is a montage of Thai pussy and your photo's are instantly forgotten. 🤣

Don't believe the guys living in the "Idilic " provinces who say how wonderful life is however attractive is their wife/partner. After a while they are bored to tears doing and seeing the same things, people and places over and over again.

A good friend of mine moved to "Korat" about a year ago but that in reality was 30 minutes drive away from the nearest shop and had the Village Headman's outside speakers right next door. Fine if you like being woken up at 5.30am every morning with the local news and "issan" music.

Note well - It all sounds like "Issan" music to western ears anywhere north of Bangkok.

Even if there are a couple of bars in the town where expats congregate it is the SAME expats every time you visit. There is no escaping them if you fancy a beer and some conversation in English but cannot stand the loudmouth expat who holds court every night. Trust me again.........there will be one!

Do you think Prachuap Khiri Khan will have a couple of large shopping centres; a Makro and a dozen or so decent restaurants and bars? A rhetorical question. You will be lucky to find a 7-Elevan.

Where I live at least half of every month in Mae Sot we have all of those and more but what I miss above all else is the company of "western" friends and varied conversation in English.

At the risk of repeating mself, I absolutely guarantee that half the guys who live in the sticks are bored to tears and cannot wait to visit Bangkok or Pattaya.

By the way, my friend who went to Korat has moved back in Pattaya now and I doubt if it will come as any surprise that I am really looking forward to returning to Bangsaray/Pattaya on the 24th for a couple of weeks.🤣

I would think that Still Early is not really talking about Prachuab Khiri Khan for living although if he does then he might just be happy with a Tesco and socialising with the few expats that call it home although even I would doubt that would last long. Only he knows.

I couldn't live there, it is a place to visit but Hua Hin ticks all the boxes for many.  A great expat community, enough bars to fulfill desires if needing to socialise with a companion but for me it was far more than that shallow life (as I see it).

Some of the best restaurants around with great seafood, good infrastructure and very good connections to Bangkok and the south. Great walks and leisure facilities for those, like me, who like to stay fit.  Great places to go with the wife without feeling that every other guy passing by isn't actually with his real partner.  A good mix of tourists who are more likely to be families and couples.  Great department malls and top class hotels, a great beach in Cha Am up the road.

The thing is mate, you have your view and it is obvious that Pattaya and Bangkok have a massive pull in your life despite being married.  For me I couldn't wait to get out of Pattaya and I only visit there now for a few days.  When I think of a break I think of Krabi, Kanchanaburi, Udon Thani, Nongkhai or Koh Samui, in fact Pattaya does not feature except for a trip to meet up with mates. The last time I was in Pattaya I left after 2 days, I had seen my friends on the dark side and a beer in Le Pub and the Rockhouse was all I needed. Oh I had a good time but it only involved drinks with good mates.

Maybe I am just happy with my life but more importantly I never saw beer and pussy as my main reasons for living in Thailand from day one. It wasn't a difficult decision to leave Thailand as my focus was on my family, my wife and child and what was best for us. Yes, I could go back to Thailand to live but it wouldn't be Pattaya.

We are all different mate and having a balanced view on how other guys live their life to the full doesn't necessarily mean it resides in a bar in Pattaya or Bangkok.  Those bars are for many just a part of a life they have found but not at all the main driver that gives them their overall quality of life.

You are happy with your life but please stop telling people how to live their life to fulfil their happiness.  Just like there are some guys whose whole life revolves around a beer from waking up to going to bed with the sight of a bit of flesh close by there are many others whose enjoyment has a little bit more substance to it beyond a bar even if for a brief period they like what you are selling.

Hua Hin is in Prachuap Khiri Khan , so yes it does have a few convenience stores 555 no need to live right in the centre though and that would be my plan , beachside 15-20 mins away

I thought you meant Hua Hin when you said Prachuab Khiri Khan.  For me you would be making a great decision, I lived there for 3 years and loved it.  Accommodation is amazing within 15-20 mins of the centre.

Firstly, to the OP there was no “before”, those areas seem to have been set when the forum began and we certainly haven’t changed anything.

Secondly it’s a simple task to add the province - Central seems sensible.

Lastly I can see it’s all a little messy with Rayong listed in both Central and Eastern. What I don’t want to do is start making too many “changes” or thread will then be in the wrong place.

Huh, I never noticed that when I went to make my Rayong post, I just automatically went to Eastern, which is where it belongs.

I really like Hua Hin and Cha Am ( the beaches are not as rocky ) ...

A shit load of really, really good places to eat ....

Plenty of good looking gals around ... just not in your face like Patts ...

The sea is a lot cleaner there than Patts

Plus, the Thai people are certainly friendlier there than Patts .. not everyone is out for your baht

I agree with HorizonDave ....

I could live there easy ...

And still be spending as much time as you feel necessary socialising in Bangkok which is exactly what you do now mate. 🤣

Nothing wrong with that at all.

You don't even live in Thailand ! 🤣

Anyway, to quote from my post:

"Where I live at least half of every month in Mae Sot we have all of those and more but what I miss above all else is the company of "western" friends and varied conversation in English."

That is the big downside in living in some regional out of the way place so I don't think we are much different at all.

It would be a mistake to take anything I post too seriously as mostly it is complete bollocks. I sometimes get carried away by having to demonstrate my offatory skills. It comes from my years of being a speech writer for Prof. S Hawkins.

Well, if I didn't have business here .. then I would not come so often .. now it is about 1 week a month ... believe me .. it is hard to leave my cushy life on the sea ...

Most of the time when I am in BKK  .. I work ... yea, I get out now and then .... and rise some hell .. chase and catch some skirts .. normal .. I think ...

I love work .. it is unimaginable what I would do if I didn't work  ( probably end up in trouble -- it has a way of finding me ) .. it has provided me with good balance in my life

Well I am hoping that you really are not joining that idiotic crowd who believe that not living in the country prevents us from having our say on anything related to Thailand.  I suppose that means that the moment you take a holiday back to Scotland you are unable to be taken seriously for any comments made about Thailand?  Maybe that is the 'bollocks' you are talking about. If living in Thailand is a prerequisite to posting on this forum then I am happy to stop posting completely.

Anyhow the point is that we all have our needs, our ways that improve or satiate our quality of life and to pin hole it down to the fact that beer and pussy must be the most important reason to make living in Thailand tolerable is really just your view.  Nothing wrong with your view and, no doubt, it will resonate with many but for me I moved on once I found a good partner and beer and pussy (to view) really became a backdrop to how I lived.  Nothing wrong with being in bars in any city if that is your thing but Pattaya and Bangkok do not have a monopoly on my entertainment gauge and didn't for the last 8 years I lived there.

I am glad you mentioned 'not taking anything you post' seriously as I haven't for a long time ever since you came over here from another forum.  You were obviously very influential over there and that does come out in a lot of your posts on this forum but for me it is about substance, not popularity, it is about respect, not legendary status and it is about understanding all needs not just your own.

I won't make another comment as I think we will just go around in circles, I am also finding that I am responding more than I would have liked as for me most of those I associated with over my time in Thailand and whose posts I used to enjoy reading are no longer posting for whatever reason they have decided.

Please understand I am happy that you have a good life, just appreciate that we all desire different things to be happy.

I've said for a few years the only place i could or would live in Thailand would be Hua Hin or round Sattahip direction.

Nothing has changed my mind, nor likely too!

I specifically liked Hua Hin as it had a different demographic to Pattaya in who lived or holidayed there, different vibe. But if your life revolved around shagging and drinking, which is fine if it works for you, then i understand Pattaya would suit you better.

Only downside for me, is that the great beaches are pretty much sand banks, and is no good for scuba diving, which i really enjoy. Sattahip and Rayong has good diving, albeit kinda seasonal.  The Thai guys i am in contact with from Rayong posted this video below the other day, diving with a huge whale shark, just amazing, and something i swear i'm going to do before i die!

Our house in Bangsaray is very roughly midway between Sattahip and greater Pattaya.

I socialise mostly in Pattaya but very glad to live by the sea in Bangsaray just 20 minutes down the Sukhumviit.

The only time I drink alcohol is on my trips back to Pattaya maybe 4 or 5 nights out with friends a month at the most. I never drink alcohol at home and it never crosses my mind to do so. On the other hand, when I am out with the guys I really enjoy a beer etc but the resulting hangovers, not so much.  🤣

Surprisingly, I don't drink much beer at home ... and only when Ziggy is asleep ... I ( for me ) don't think it is a good thing to do in front of your daughter .. I might sound weird .. but, that is how I feel .... especially coming from me ... lol .. lol

Look at it now. 😉

I first visited in 1993 , don't remember a huge amount about the place , just a small bar area behind our hotel ,  didn't seem to be any tuk tuks or songteaws around , just motorbike taxis ... and I've never been a fan of those 🙂
