At least eight people have been killed in three separate shootings in the US after a gunman went on a deadly rampage.

A man entered three massage parlors in Georgia and opened fire.

Eight people died and at least one person was injured in the attacks.

Robert Aaron Long, 21, was arrested in Crisp County, north of Atlanta, about three hours after the killings took place, local media reported.

Cherokee County sheriff’s Captain Jay Baker said authorities believe Long is the suspect in all three shootings.

The first shooting took place at around 5pm (local time), where five people were shot at Youngs Asian Massage Parlor in Acworth.

Two of the victims were found dead at the scene and three were transported to hospital. Two of those victims later died from their injuries.

Almost an hour later, about 50km away, police were called to another shooting at Gold Spa in northeast Atlanta, where officers found three women dead with gunshot wounds.

A fourth woman was found dead at Aromatherapy Spa across the street.

The motives behind the violent rampage are still unclear.

Was watching that on CNN, but with the volume down because nephew called. When I saw the full report, I was like” either a mafioso putting the competition out of business, or someone overpaid for a HJ”

Wonder what the actual reason is

Atlanta massage parlor shootings: Suspect charged with murder, claims ‘sexual addiction,’ denies racial motive, police say

Excerpts from the article:

"A white gunman accused of killing eight people, most of them of Asian descent, at three Atlanta-area massage parlors claimed to have a “sex addiction” and apparently lashed out at what he saw as sources of temptation, officials said Wednesday.

"The bloodshed immediately raised fears of another hate crime against Asian Americans. But Robert Aaron Long, 21, told police the attack was not racially motivated, and police said it appeared it may not have been. Six of the victims were identified as Asian and seven were women."

...

It was not clear if Long ever went to the parlors where the shootings occurred; one official said he had while another indicated he may have only visited businesses like them. Authorities also said he was planning to go to Florida in a plot to attack “some type of porn industry.”

“He apparently has an issue, what he considers a sex addiction, and sees these locations as something that allows him to go to these places, and it’s a temptation for him that he wanted to eliminate,” Cherokee County Sheriff’s spokesman Capt. Jay Baker told reporters.

...

Sheriff Frank Reynolds said it was too early to tell if the attack was racially motivated — “but the indicators right now are it may not be.”
