Due to its novel nature, there have been concerns about the repair costs of the Cybertruck. For example, we learned that the truck’s giant windshield cost $1,900 to replace. An early owner was also quoted $2,800 to replace his Cybertruck’s rear quarter panel. The vehicle’s novelty, with its straight stainless steel panels, has worried insurers. Some have refused to insure it, while others have given owners ridiculous quotes. With new vehicles, it’s generally out of an abundance of caution, but it is sometimes warranted. We are now seeing some of the first Tesla Cybertrucks that were “totaled” by insurers and are now up for auction on IAA’s website. The first one has been involved in a significant front-end impact that resulted in airbag deployment: https://www.facebook.com/tpaynephoto It’s not an EV for me, but others love it, and are willing to pay dearly for being one of the first to buy it. Now the reality of owning one is kicking in I wonder how many regret their eagerness to own one. I suspect that there will be a few that would take on the repairs on a write off Cybertruck for fun, but the costs will no doubt be very high for parts, if they can get them.

Don’t be silly, you must be the only one who doesn’t understand the meaning of “it’s not an EV for me” in the context in which it was written, but that doesn’t surprise me.😉 I have a new Kia EV 9, a Kia Nero EV3 both of which we use regularly and a Kia Soul EV stuck in the barn. Those are my idea of EV’s, not that stainless steel lump. They can’t even sell them in Europe and you can’t drive them because you need a different license due to it’s weight, plus the steel skin doesn’t comply with impact regulations here. There other reasons but those mentioned prove it’s just a vanity project by Musk. 🤣 Edited June 28, 2024 by KhunDon 2
ChiFlyer Posted July 2, 2024 Posted July 2, 2024 (edited) We made it over to the MG Showcase near our house today. The salesman went over things with me and I got a better understanding of things. In brief, I was impressed with the MG4. Some key points from my perspective. MG will provide some decent incentives, The seating in the car was very comfortable. Nice enough looking car. Decent trunk space given our needs. I did not test drive as I will not purchase until after our US trip this Fall. I did communicate that I would want to test drive before finalizing a purchase. List price is 900,000 THB. 4 colors to choose from. Can be delivered from Bangkok in 2 days. Stated range is 432 kms. Like I said our average week is about 200 kms. Car does come with a granny charger. A full charge on the granny charger takes about 6 hours. We almost always have several days every week where the car does not get used at all. The granny charger will certainly work well enough out of the gates. Granny charger has a 7.5 M cable. This should be more than sufficient. We have a covered car park. There is already an electric outlet in the wall in the car park. I am assuming that the needs of the Granny charger can be satisfied by the wiring that already exists in this area. MG will come out to our house check our electricity and install the granny charger. All for free. One year insurance coverage included with the purchase. First maintenance (50,000 kms) included in the purchase. Decent warranties for both vehicle and battery. The salesman (whom I told that we were on what would probably be a lengthy sales cycle) was quite helpful and tried hard to answer all of my questions. His English was less than great, but the Mrs more than exceeded expectations in her translator role. btw - the Mrs loves the car. Needless to say this car is a near perfect fit for our needs. I am likely to go this route. btw - we have a small condo for sale over in Jomtien. One of you guys must need a vacation condo or a better place for your Honey KO. 🙂 Asking price is 1M THB. I’d ask them again about getting a full charge in 6 hours on a granny charger. You definitely won’t get one in 6 hours. From memory the battery is 54kWh and at best the charger will give is around 2.5-2.8kwh per hour, possibly less, on a 220 volt supply. Also remember that the granny charger will be pulling a constant 10 amp at full rate and you must be sure that your wiring, especially the socket it’s plugged into can handle that. Most sockets can’t handle it and then problems arise. Just check plug and socket for heat build up for first few hours. Even a 7Kwh EVSE would take 8 hours to fully charge the battery. You do the math. Good price though at £19.500, same in UK is £26.500 for the basic model. 👌 Edited July 3, 2024 by KhunDon 3
KhunDon Posted July 3, 2024 Posted July 3, 2024 One bit of advice I will give you for free is to get one of these booster packs. The 12v battery on virtually all EV’s is the weak spot and having one of these in the glovebox (not in the boot) is invaluable IMHO. If the 12v charge gets slightly low it throws up all sorts of problems, the main one is not being able to start the car. Leaving a door or boot open or interior light on can easily mean you can’t start the car. Even on new cars it can easily happen, having this in the glove box (not the boot because you won’t be able to open boot) will get you out of trouble and on your way without calling out the breakdown services. Happened to us several times, but even the wife (who caused the problem in the first place 🤬) is now able to hook it up and get going again. Several models on the internet, this is a good one that many people choose. 👍 3

lazarus Posted October 27, 2024 Posted October 27, 2024 Straight from the 'horse's mouth'... During Tesla’s third-quarter earnings call, Musk explicitly rejected the idea of developing a conventional $25,000 car, calling it “pointless” and “silly” in light of the company’s autonomous vehicle strategy. “I think having a regular $25,000 model is pointless. Yeah. It would be silly. Like, it’ll be completely at odds with what we believe,” Musk stated during the earnings call. Instead, Tesla is focusing its efforts on the development of its robotaxi vehicle, dubbed the “Cybercab.” Unlike traditional vehicles, the Cybercab will be designed exclusively for autonomous operation, without a steering wheel or pedals. “Autonomous, it’s fully considered cost per mile, is what matters,” Musk explained. “And if you try to make a car that is, essentially, a hybrid manual automatic car, it’s not going to be as good as a dedicated autonomous car.” The company’s vision for the future is unambiguously autonomous. Tesla plans to begin volume production of the Cybercab in 2026, with ambitious targets of producing 2-4 million units annually across multiple factories. “I think it’s going to be very obvious in retrospect… that the future is autonomous electric vehicles,” Musk emphasized. “Non-autonomous gasoline vehicles in the future will be like riding a horse and using a foot phone. It’s not that there are no horses… but they’re unusual. They’re niche.” . . . https://www.benzinga.com

I’m only going on the fact that the fire doesn’t seem to be beneath the lorry but is coming from inside the bed of the lorry. Of course I could be wrong, especially as I don’t trust the Observer to get anything right. 😉 1
Going2Siam Posted October 28, 2024 Posted October 28, 2024 In Norway we are already almost totally converted to ev's . I dont own one cause I spend all winter in Los but i sometimes rent one and yeah .. Once you get used to them Theres no going back .300 hp on rear wheel driven car still is fun 😊 What I dont like about them is the fact that you need to download app's to operate them. That means that you dont have totall controll of the vehicle you paid for. Some companies require subscription to keep options running. As we know subscription prices can be raised. BMW for example turned of your seat heating if the subscription wasn't continued. ( too many complaints made BMW give up though) Norway's ev utopia Subscriptions. The BMW case is mentioned here 3 2
