I normally keep well away from political and social issues on the forum, however I was quite surprised this morning when I came across this food handout. I spoke to the two German gents who appeared to be managing the event and they advised that it took place every day at 0800 hours. I am aware that @tommy dee made a collection and participated in a similar event, but that was during the mid part of last year and I assumed arrangements had been put in hand to avoid the need for free food handouts. I will not comment further but leave the thread for members to view and consider. As a matter of policy I do not normally take photographs of homeless or deprived people, however I decided that this merited an exception. I did not go out of my way to look for rough sleepers, I just came across the three I photographed.

Sanctuary of Truth

The Sanctuary of Truth is perhaps the most iconic structure in Pattaya. Intricately carved entirely from teak wood, the awe-inspiring 105-metre-tall hall on the headland to the north of Wongamat Beach is a one-of-a-kind structure in the whole world. Neither temple nor palace, despite looking like a hybrid of both, it was commissioned by a local business tycoon to act as a place of appreciation for philosophy, art, culture and faith, without being tied to a single religion.

The sanctuary is perhaps best described as a monument to Thai craftsmanship, with its stunningly detailed carvings of elephants, people and scenes, creatures and deities from mythology. They pay homage to and are a reflection of the Ancient Vision of Earth, Ancient Knowledge and Eastern Philosophy and they adorn every single surface – both inside and out – of the building. They are also a reflection of the fleeting nature and ceaseless toil of human existence because none of the wood is treated or protected from the elements, meaning that older parts gradually succumb to the rigours of the weather and climate and need to be replaced. The construction of the sanctuary, which began in 1981, is an on-going, never-ending task

Walking Street is certainly not ready for the mass influx of tourists.  Some pictures of the overhead electrical wires being replaced.  There must be a danger with so many coiled and closely running electrical wires. Last pictures suggest some drainage work too.

I see a Thai style accident waiting to happen, electrical wires in the drainage to remove them from overhead.

This afternoon's photographs are not of great artistic or creative value.  What I would suggest they do show is that Pattaya is quiet, fewer people than normal, but it is not deserted.  Shops, massage parlours and cafes/coffe shops are open; most bars are closed due to the alcohol sales ban, however more and more bars seem to be open, certainly entertaining customers and purporting to sell soft drinks and coffee.
