The Real Reasons Why OnlyFans Is Banning Porn

It’s not so much about investors as it is MasterCard’s upcoming policy changes and the anti-sex-work lobby.

The adult industry was left panic-stricken by Thursday’s news that OnlyFans would no longer be allowing “sexually explicit conduct.”

As the news spread across the internet, confusion and fear were met with misinformation and anger. Content creators immediately took to Twitter in hopes of finding answers or details about the upcoming changes beyond the headlines. Many pointed to a new report on Axios detailing how, despite swimming in cash, OnlyFans was struggling to find investors.

OnlyFans attempted damage-control with the following statement, first reported by XBIZ’s Gustavo Turner:

“Effective 1 October 2021, OnlyFans will prohibit the posting of any content containing sexually explicit conduct. In order to ensure the long-term sustainability of the platform, and to continue to host an inclusive community of creators and fans, we must evolve our content guidelines. Creators will continue to be allowed to post content containing nudity as long as it is consistent with our Acceptable Use Policy.” ...

Fap Wednesday wins!

OnlyFans suspends proposed ban on sexually explicit content

https://edition.cnn.com/2021/08/25/tech/onlyfans-suspends-ban/index.html

OnlyFans said Wednesday that it will suspend its upcoming policy change to restrict sexually explicit material, citing "assurances" it received that would allow it to be "a home for all creators."

"We have secured assurances necessary to support our diverse creator community and have suspended the planned October 1 policy change," the company said in a tweet. "OnlyFans stands for inclusion and we will continue to provide a home for all creators."

Asked by CNN Business whether the announcement means the policy change might take effect at a later date, and whether the company agreed to make any changes to appease banks and allow for this reversal, OnlyFans said: "The proposed October 1, 2021 changes are no longer required due to banking partners' assurances that OnlyFans can support all genres of creators."...

Well.... Dog damn ! I'm going to be saving a lot of money now.

Shit, I have to go look through my storage boxes for those old collectable copies of Playboy. They are in pristine condition, but I reckon not for much longer. Always a fucking trade off.

From what I have heard it is American Express that is pulling the strings. The card company doesn't want to be associated with sites where there is a potential risk of underage girls. This comes as a result of of the discovery of underage girls at pornhub some months ago. Many other paysites where people with little or no age verification can upload content have been targetted.

More to the story...

The mystery behind OnlyFans’ flip-flop on porn

OnlyFans won’t ban porn for now — but its problems haven’t gone away.

https://www.vox.com/recode/22642250/onlyfans-reverse-ban-porn-sexually-explicit-content-policy-bbc-mystery

... Meanwhile, the media coverage of the ban has overshadowed one of the possible reasons why OnlyFans might have decided to implement it: a lengthy BBC investigation, published shortly after OnlyFans initially announced it would ban most porn. The BBC reported that OnlyFans was not doing enough to ensure that its creators are of legal age or that all content posted on the platform is legal. It also reported that the company is slow to ban creators found to be in violation of its policies. The report was based on accounts from OnlyFans moderators and leaked internal documents that the BBC said show banned or illegal content on the platform and that OnlyFans recommended its moderators should give creators who post illegal content three warnings before banning them.

OnlyFans denied most of the BBC’s allegations and would not tell Recode if the BBC report influenced its initial decision to ban pornography. It did point Recode to its Terms of Service that details the verification process for creators, including submitting photos of two forms of ID and a photo of the creator holding those IDs, and it said it has a “zero tolerance policy” on banned content. OnlyFans also said that it uses certain technologies to identify child sexual abuse material (CSAM), including Microsoft’s PhotoDNA. OnlyFans also shared its transparency report, which includes select details on CSAM found on its platform (15 OnlyFans accounts were deactivated for possible CSAM in July 2021, for instance).

But the BBC report (as well as a 2020 BBC documentary about the company) indicates that despite those existing policies, users are still uploading illegal content. OnlyFans wouldn’t tell Recode how many humans it employs or contracts to moderate content. Nor would it say if it would be hiring more of them or changing its policies in any way to better reassure those skittish banking partners that everything on the site is legal...

SAMUT PRAKAN: A young couple were arrested at a hotel in Bang Phli district late on Monday night for streaming their sexual activities online.

The 19-year-old woman, initially identified as Kainao, and her 20-year-old boyfriend shared their sexual exploits online via the OnlyFans website. They were arrested by police from the Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau.

The couple admitted to producing pornographic content, according to cyber police, who described their behaviour as "very inappropriate".

Police said they would not take legal action against the owner of the website, which only allowed creators to share content. The arrests were the result of the website being abused by content creators.

At a subsequent press conference, Pol Lt Gen Kornchai Klaiklueng, commissioner of the Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau, identified the woman as Suthanya Nakhonjinda and the man as Korakot Sarirat.

He said they had started their illicit business in June and earned at least 500,000 baht since then. Video creators kept 80% of subscribers’ payments to the OnlyFans website, he said.

Both suspects admitted to the charge of producing pornographic content for sale, but denied the charge of putting pornographic content into a computer system for the public to see.

The first charge was laid under the Criminal Code and carries a maximum penalty of three years in jail and/or fine of 60,000 baht. The second charge was laid under the Computer Crimes Act and carries a maximum penalty of five years in jail and/or fine of 100,000 baht.

On the second charge, Pol Lt Gen Kornchai said the couple argued that their content was posted on the website and accessible only by paying subscribers, not the general public. The commissioner said police were of the view the general public could see it, if they paid for it.

Police would ask the Samut Prakan court to detain the two suspects for another 12 days to allow further investigation, he said

Their behaviour was very inappropriate, he said. They even invited young people via public social media to watch their pornographic content, and  planned to show it on YouTube and Twitter, according to Pol Lt Gen Kornchai.

He confirmed that police would not take legal action against the OnlyFans website.

He did warn that any other Thai people who produced and disseminated such pornographic content would also be arrested and face legal action from the Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau.

Pol Lt Gen Kornchai also said he was aware of the negative criticism on social media against cybercrime police over the arrest of the young couple. People posting severe insults against police would also be prosecuted, he declared.
