Wat Nong Ao – The Golden Temple - Pattaya.

Wat Nong Ao is a small local temple located in central Pattaya. What differentiates it from the other temples in Pattaya is its shiny exterior. It feels like everything in this temple is gilded and shiny. It’s like a billionaires private golden temple and exploring it feels pretty cool. There are a couple of zodiac discs, a big reclined Buddha statue, a picturesque Ganesha shrine, and a praying (and moving) skeleton with glasses. Even though it’s very easy to reach Wat Nong Ao, there are hardly any tourists in it so you can enjoy an authentic experience there.

A beautiful and quiet Temple near the Big C in Pattaya 3rd road.
Really colourful and good for photos

How to get there:  The temple is on the intersection of the South Pattaya Rd and Second Main Rd. It’s easy to reach on foot from central Pattaya.

The description of the location must surely be wrong. That sounds like the location of Wat Chai.

Was there some additional attraction other than 0% liquids on sale per chance?

Conversation with a mate, who'd had a conversation with a mate, who'd been talking to another mate in a bar .... terms for those new market stalls on buckhou involve paying for 3 months upfront. This then gets you the first month free. He's trying to find out what a month costs.

Nice pics, thanks. Some years ago, they used to allow you in free of charge (yes, even us LDOP farangs!) on one day of the week if you wore a yellow shirt. Do they still do that, or have they stopped it after the sad passing of Rama 9?

I can vaguely remember some discussion about this on the Secrets Forum.  From memory the gist of the posts were that on the particular day the place was absolutely full.  I can only find the below on the internet.

https://www.tripadvisor.com/LocationPhotoDirectLink-g293916-d5505282-i238775128-Thailand_Tourist_Services_Day_Tours-Bangkok.html

which does not really help.

Found this about free admission day.

There is one day per year that everyone who wishes to visit may do so for free.  On Father’s Day in Thailand, December 5th, if you wish to visit there is no charge at all.  On this day, however, there are typically about 1000 monks in attendance and a very large crowd who come to donate food.  If you wish to have a more personal visit with time to explore it is recommended to buy a ticket!

A sighting of the paraglides; apologies for picture quality, a combination of misty weather and the fact that I only had 28 to 70 lens.

BM @fforest posed the question of what is open in Walking Street, so I took a walk on Walking Street this afternoon.  The answer is that not a lot is open.  The bars and gogos are obviously closed and there are very few shops in the street that are not bars and clubs.  The open ones are shown below.

I'm wondering now if the plan all along wasn't for a temporary relocation while they resurfaced and erected new vendor tents.
