Is Hazelwood okay, as he was rather under bowled second innings compared to the other pace men?.

Hazlewood in doubt for second Test after suffering side strain in Gabba victory

Scans have cleared Hazlewood of serious injury to his side, considered the fast bowler’s grunt muscle, but the combination of a short turnaround and the quality of the quicks sitting on the bench points to the dependable seamer sitting out of the pink-ball Test starting Thursday.

Hazlewood had not played a first-class game since April before the Test, his preparation for the Ashes dominated by Twenty20 cricket, first in the Indian Premier League then in Australia’s successful World Cup campaign.

“I think we’ll wait until he wakes up in the morning. I think a key is we don’t want to put him in jeopardy for the whole series,” Cummins said. “We’ll take our time. He had a scan last night so we’ll kind of work through that.

Harris is gone this time!

Just like the first innings in Brisbane, Marcus Harris is gone for three runs. This time off 28 balls.

Harris tries to pull a ball around the corner off Broad but it’s caught by Jos Buttler, who dives magnificently to his right to help England snare a much-needed breakthrough. What a catch.

Australia 1-4 from 7.3 overs

Just got up & seen the score....Wood is our only truly fast bowler,is he injured or are we playing rotation yet again?

Stop questioning the team management and selection. They know what they are doing.... apparently! 🙂

As Aggers said,  20 overs until the new ball. Come on Anderson, get those 39 year old legs going on your first day in the field...

edit... oooooh, wicket off stokes, and the first thing everyone does is look for a no ball. Why is a bowler even that close to the front line?

No Cummins (pinged), or Hazelwood (injured), perfect opportunity for our batsmen to get runs. Not exactly helping ourselves by wasting glorious chances (Buttler). Can't be dropping those. One was a dolly, one was harder, but it was in the glove so should of held it. Still rather see Foakes behind the stumps and Buttler as specialist batsmen.

Need early wickets tomorrow or we could be in for a long day. Would rather see us rotate Anderson and Broad rather than play both and drop Wood.

Need a much better day tomorrow.

Yes...... but.... this is England you're talking about.... we'd get rolled over by the Falkland island Sunday second XI

53 overs in two sessions is piss poor.

The team was fined their total match payments after the first Test and they are well on target to repeat the effort in this match. The Cricket authorities may need to introduce summary (metaphorical) executions to get their message through regarding bowling rates. 😛

Predictions are tomorrow will be a scorcher in Adelaide.

Early strikes have England on their knees after Smith’s iron innings

The hosts are in a commanding position in the second Test after the visitors’ embattled openers failed a shortened pink-ball examination under lights against an Australian attack missing their two best fast bowlers.

England found comfort in an act of God on Friday night when lightning halted Australia’s charge but six days into the series it is already apparent the men in baggy green have their measure.

Joe Root will need to produce an innings at least matching those of his opposing number Smith, David Warner or Marnus Labuschagne if his side is to have any hope of dodging a 2-0 scoreline when they leave Adelaide. When stumps was drawn 19 minutes early, the Australians had England in a world of hurt on 2-17 in reply to their 9-473d.

Damage limitation now for the rest of the series
