Popular Post Yessongs
So went to see REO Speedwagon at the San Jose Civic. Had dinner at “Maggiano’s” Italian food. Food as always was great. Hit the bar after for a “Kailua Coffee” then on to the show. All went well, parking across the street in the garage for $10 for the entire night. Mandatory proof of Vaccine with ID to get in. Most of these local shows of any kind these days, there are “metal detectors” that you have to go through, none this time, was interesting. Opening band from LA played 30 minutes, quick 15 minute change then REO came on. Last concert I ever saw at “Winterland” May 1978, was REO Speedwagon and Ritchie Blackmore and his band Rainbow. They come on and open the night with “Music Man” Lead singer Kevin Cronin,70 years old now, lead singer of the band since 1972 sounding great. He has quite the stories to tell, one was when he was in college in Chicago and graduated in 1971. There was this one girl he was absolutely was smitten by. Of course she would not give him the time of day back then. He tells us that 10 years later, 1981after the release of “High Infidelity” a 6 month world tour, he is now a multi millionare, 5 houses, 10 cars and guns like this (he flexed for the crowd) they had a college “re-union” and she shows up, runs up to him and he does this girls voice and says “Oh Kevin, it has been so long since we have seen each other” Then he tells us “Well I can’t tell you what I told her but…it didn’t end well for her” I like this guy, great sense of humor. So with that, he told us that he wrote this song just for Sharon and they launched into “I Can’t Fight This Feeling" Cool..with that the rest of the night was just hit after hit with such classics as “Take it on the Run” “ Tough Guys” “Keep Pushing” “Keep On Loving You" “Riding The Storm Out” various others and closed the night with “Roll With The Changes” He told everyone he was good friends with Sammy Hagar and they brought out this guy named “Vic Johnson” who plays for Hagars Band, who played the second half of the set. He also brought a quart of Sammies best “Tequila” from Cabo Wabo and they all did a shot on stage. I have to give it up to these 70’s bands, since coming back here in Jan 2019, have seen Journey, Styx, Foreigner and now REO. They all play STILL unbelievably well, crisp, clear and military precision…..well done to REO in 2022. 6 2

Mr. Smooth
I saw Sammy Hagar interview the guys in REO on his show on AXS TV, and yes, he and Cronin are friends and Sammy's guitar player is an excellent musician. As usual, you two were the best dressed couple at the show and glad you had a great time. Wonderful pics!
Derek Dangleberries
Fantastic. Absolutely bloody fantastic! Thank you for the story, your thoughts and the pictures! Bloody fantastic (as an Englishman I can't think of a better superlative superlative - which is of course a triple superlative - does that make 4?) Bloody excellent .. I'm gonna waste my morning on YT now thanks to you !!
galenkia
Great Post and pictures Mike. 👍 Agree about the old bands, some of the 70's and 80's bands still sound superb. Since gigs started up again I've seen only one ' new' band, Sleep Token, and the rest were at their peak in the 80's. That's Level 42, Johnny Hates Jazz, Deacon Blue and Toyah. On Saturday will be seeing Saxon, Diamond Head, Girlschool and one other unannounced special guest. All have been brilliant so far. While I do follow and see live some newer bands, I still love the old ones the most.

Yessongs
@roomark6'9 Blond Kid in Patong? Geez....I hate young guys LOL! @Mr. Smooth I have always wanted to go to " Cabo Wabo" and see Sammy Hagar there play. @Derek Dangleberries There are days when I spend an hour or so just looking at videos on YT....you're not alone. @galenkia Get some pics of that show, would love to see what "Saxon" looks like these days. @bob lt Yeah Journey was good, saw them in Vegas Oct 2019 with wifey, no cameras at all were allowed. They played a " residency" at Caesars Palace for a week. Neal Schon is still great. If you are interested, go to the "Off Topic" section and I posted up pics of Foreigner on July 31st 2021 and Styx Jan 20th 2020. Thank god for 70's music huh?
