Normally in an afternoon, when one looks away from the sun, along the coastline from the Beer Garden, there is very little if any mist.  This afternoon was an exception.  Look how clear and sharp the boat is compared to the large buildings behind.  AQI was 77, which is described as moderate.

Nice one.

I have to say. Nowhere on earth have I seen more incredible sunsets than Thailand.

For a few months during covid I was in a condo unit that had a mostly obstructed view. But there was enough of a space and the angle was very good for seeing sunsets.

During those times I found myself planning my schedule to make sure I was able to sit and enjoy. Was rarely missed them.

That could be due to the high level of particulate matter in the air (PM)...aka air pollution.

The science behind those picture-perfect sunsets

https://www.reconnectwithnature.org/news-events/the-buzz/the-science-of-sunsets/

The colors we see — or don't see — in a sunset are the results of a scientific phenomenon called light scattering, according to the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Scattering occurs when light rays hit particles in the air, changing the direction of the light...

... When the sky is the desirable bright red we so love in sunsets, it's an indication the atmosphere is full of moisture and dust particles. We see the red color because it has the longest wavelength in the spectrum. The shorter wavelengths, like blue, aren't visible because they are broken up. These same principles also explain why the sky is blue during the day. The blue light is scattered more than the other wavelengths because it travels in shorter, smaller waves, NASA reports....

Curiosities: What determines the colors of the sky at sunrise and sunset?

The Appearance of the Sky

Intense red sunsets are often visible when forest fires are burning nearby, or when volcanic eruptions happen. The most heavily polluted cities in the world also tend to have more orange and red sunsets, resulting from an abundance of human-made aerosols. Though the result can be spectacular to observe, it is also an indication of increased air pollution.

Oh boy, just what an invalid with 5 hospital appointments in 5 days needed. Finally home, got the Holter on, must be returned in 24 hours, just before the cold snap starts to subside. It’s just a drop-off in a mailbox, so hopefully Mom & nephew can manage.

What a month……😢
