Eye Exam - referral needed

I would like to schedule an eye exam in Pattaya if anybody has a referral here in town.

... If there isn't a good one available here, I would be willing to schedule one in Bangkok and just make the drive there too.

Thank you!

Euro Optic in Royal Garden Plaza. Dr. Maria is a Pilipino that speaks excellent English, and more importantly has quality test equipment and good quality frames and lenses.

Do you mean a eye sight test, purely for the purpose of changing spectacles/lenses if necessary?  If you suspect some underlying problem which may need surgical intervention then hospital/consultant may be the answer.

...I'll go and see her for my appt and go from there.

I did have lasik surgery a while back and would like to have my eyes checked again as my surgery was over 10 years ago.

Bangkok Pattaya hospital may be a more appropriate solution to the issue.

As someone who has had eye problems for many years I have kept across this, just in case. The Rutnin Eye Hospital on Sukhumvit has consistently got the most recommendations as Bangkoks best

Just looked through my records and it seems I went there for an eye exam quite a few years ago.

I will book locally at Bangkok Pattaya Hospital as I am too lazy to go all the way to BKK this time around

From what you've posted, doesn't sound like you have any eye issues and just want to test your vision in case a new Rx is warranted. That being the case Euro Optic is just fine for that. They can also check for early signs of detached retina and glaucoma. I had Lasik done in 2001 and have only been back to the eye Dr. for regular vision checkups.

Good luck with BPH.

Go in for an eye test and come out two weeks later with your left nut missing and a bill for 2 million baht.

Went 2019 to BHP because I had a feeling, that my right eye sight was not very good despite trying different glasses. There was a young, pretty lady doctor but she couldn't find anything wrong.

Two years later a male doctor at BHP diagnosed the eye to have cataract which needs to be observed.

Not sure if the lady doc should have detect it earlier already or not. Just a heads up in case a pretty lady is  staring into your eyes.

Cataract - If you end up after an exam of the early stages of cataracts, can you get a Lasik procedure to fix that ???

or are you usually stuck with having to wear glasses???

I believe for cataracts you're look at lens replacement surgery.

BPH have a superb eye clinic. I used their services a few years ago and was very impressed.

Most people don't bother with Lazer surgery these days. Lens replacement is so quick and easy now.

Whilst I was in Phuket a guy came into the bar and played pool against me wearing a strange set of glasses. He played very well. I asked about the glasses, he said the day before he had a new lens put into one eye and earlier that day they did his other eye. Only thing he had to do was to wear these special glasses for a few days. The cost was 3800 pounds for everything and he had 20/20 vision back instantly. Also both new lenses were multifocal.

That just blew my mind, that was in Bangkok hospital in Phuket.

Thanks everyone for the information and help.

I decided to schedule a full check-up with the Eye Dr. over at Bangkok Pattaya hospital in Pattaya.

My last check-up was quite a few years ago when I was still working in Bangkok - over at Rutnin Eye Hospital.

I am too lazy to go all the way into Bangkok, so will just go to BPH.

I'll see them in a couple of weeks and report back how things went/costs/etc...

I'm going to get my next eye exam before I depart (using insurance). Then take the Rx along with me. When I return to LOS I will order a new pair of glasses using the updated Rx.

There was a Youtube vid out within the past year or so (can't remember the name of the channel). But the vlogger did a pretty good job covering a shop on Soi Honey that seemed to do very affordable prices. I may check that place out when I get back. They can always ship the glasses to CM if I am not still in Pattaya when they arrive.

Why not just get them done in CM , i think opticians generally in Thailand are pretty good , used them in Phuket and Patts before

I trust my eye doctor here (have a history). As far a purchasing I may consider buying in CM.

It's just that the prices on the place I mentioned on Soi Honey were about as good as I've seen. I plan on doing some shopping, and it may just come down to when I have the time to deal with it, wherever I am.

I can say the prices for the glasses are far cheaper over there than here (even with my insurance). But, the eye exam I get over here is much more thorough.

Well my appointment at the St John's Hospital eye department at long last came through for the 27th April some eight months after submission.

Given the fact that the current waiting period for a cataract operation in Scotland is 82 weeks I don't know whether to be pleased or alarmed.

By coincidence, my daughter had an eye test yesterday and they discovered a "freckle" in the back of her left eye (mine is in my right) and when she mentioned me they told her it could well be hereditary.

I had lens replacement surgery in the US on my left eye over 10 years ago.  4KUSD.  I then lived with mono-vision where my left eye could read and see at a distance, but my right eye could only handle distance vision.  For very long reading/computer sessions I knocked the left lens out of a pair of reading glasses so I could use both eyes.

A couple years ago vision in my right eye was deteriorating.  I had that lens replaced at Bangkok Hospital Rayong.  2.7KUSD for a more advanced lens.  I believe the surgeon works at BHP and BHR.  A lot of the specialists we see here do, but BHR charges less than BHP who quoted me over 3.3KUSD for the same procedure.

Now I have good vision in both eyes and as a plus I can never get cataracts.
