Up Convert

1 - receiver 4k w/upconverting

1 - hard drive with both 1080p & 4k movies. 
 

So with the equipment above: will movies play to 4k quality or will the tv hinder that ability???

Needs to be a 4K TV to get true 4K quality

I think you can only up convert the source up towards the display you’re using.  An SD dvd can be up converted closer to a 1080p display, but a 1080p display cannot be up converted to the quality level of a higher definition source.
