China Beating Video Sparks Outrage, Crackdown

Let's hope this sort pf Chinese man never visits Pattaya.  The men doing the beating were members of a criminal gang that uses violence to intimidate the local population.  All nine men who took part in the beatings were arrested and face looooong prison terms or even the death penalty.  Whatever else can be said of China, justice isn't soft there.

In the U.S., there have been similar incidents and the perpetrators were immediately released without bail.

I have removed my comment because despite the subject title the thread is nothing to do with China. Just violence in general. Which, of course is wrong.

What an odd comment.  The incident took place in a restaurant in China (Tangshan in Hebei province) and prompted a huge response and discussion in both Chinese mainstream and social media.  State-owned TV has called for severe punishment for the men involved and local officials have vowed to crack down on gangs.

That has everything to do with China.

Yeah where? Sounds like Canadian justice, we are admittedly the softest. Well except for Norway where a guy who kills 77 people gets parole after 21 years

They can add five years increases indefinitely if they think you are still a danger to the public,so you can still serve an indefinite sentence.

Well my wife was attacked by a patient today at a Mental health facility where she was doing overtime. Fortunately two care support workers pulled the woman off my wife who was a bit shaken up. She has a painful wrist and some scratches but will be OK with a good night sleep, she was well shook up though. Worries me when she tells me these stories. She has been called quite a few names by various patients where she normally works, words that she has never heard before.

The woman kept telling my wife, 'this is my land', 'go back to your lands you Chinese, you'. Porn didn't bother to tell her she was Thai, wouldn't have mattered. Porn carries the key to the wards and is an easy target when the patients want to get out. One of the nurses at her normal hospital (Neath Port Talbot) was attacked with an attempted strangling recently by a female patient, it is amazing what some of these NHS staff have to go through.

Mental health hospitals are not good for the faint hearted but it was a little unnerving for Porn, she needed a good drink up when I picked her up.

Hope she's ok mate.

Yeah,NHS staff do get a lot of grief, especially ambulance and A & E staff. Though dealing with mental health patients who are unpredictable must be difficult.

I know they’re more in demand and earning more than ever with all the OT, but I totally tip my hat to all healthcare staff these last 2 years. Not mentioned enough, but forced 12 hour shifts for months on end take their toll. In Montreal’s suburbs we even had a 35 year old lady physician take her own life from the stress, goes to show the effect this pandemic’s had, and $ isn’t everything

Not nice to be subjugated to verbal or physical abuse for simply doing your job. Unfortunately, this sort of thing does happen frequently. Must affect your day to day confidence.
