Eva versus Thai in Business

Always flew Eva airline but at the moment their tickets are £400-500 more for business class than Thai airline, anyone flown Thai?

Reports before Covid was that Thai were not very good service wise. More interested in the flight than pre flight service, to me the Business lounges are not much different.

Always wanted to fly the Airbus A380, it used to be Thai airlines lunchtime flight from Heathrow which now seems to have disappeared.

T2 is easy for me to get to as well, looking at a direct flight and these are the only two airlines that fly London to Bangkok until BA decide to start flights to bangkok again.

Might now consider a stop over as direct is too expensive.

No idea how to change the title, if someone else does, feel free to do so.

I can't afford the Business class ticket prices now they have doubled thats why I'm looking around and the only reason I don't fly premium economy or economy is due to leg issues. Over a twelve hour flight I need to keep them raised or I wouldn't be able to get of the plane.

  • Nightcrawler changed the title to Eva versus Thai in Business

I've sampled neither product recently, last time I was EVA Biz was 2015, however, I've researched them both a fair bit and tbh, Pre Covid THAI seemed to have the edge as long as the prices are equivalent, more so if flying on the A380 mid day flight, not least because you get priority through immigration, which, when there were approx 8 flights landing in SVB at the same time, was a godsend.

The A380 is a wonderfully smooth Aircraft. In fact, it's easy to forget you're actually flying, which is a shame because flying it such an awesome thing in itself (We're often deliberately distracted to the fact that we're in the air, defying gravity in a marvel of modern technology.

There's not much to choose between the two, and it comes down , (in my pretty speculative and probably wrong opinion) to Lounge quality, food, FF rewards and facilities, as the seats and beds are very similar, which doesn't address your point , sorry.

Singapore Biz was pretty damn exceptional when I had a snout on our recent trip to the RP. We've flown Cathay Biz before which is also a great product, but no good to your unless you want to overshoot BKK and land in HKG. Again, sorry.

I am retired now, but I racked up 4M award points with AA and One World while I was working. I was on the road 2 and sometimes as much as 4 times a week. I also had a considerable number of personal international trips to places such as Brazil, Thailand, the DR, other Caribbean spots, Colombia, and other Latin American locations. I deny any accusations that might be attributed to a person with this type of travel schedule. 😏 The personal trips caused me to use other airlines based on best price.

On my trip to the US (Chicago) last fall, I used up the last of the One World points. At one point, I must have gone 3 years without riding in Coach, primarily due to complimentary upgrades. I had several years when I hit the Executive Platinum requirement of 100,000 miles by July. Hey they used to call me Sir at the airport. No longer true.

I live in Thailand now. I still like to travel a little, but have refrained from doing so for the last two years due to you know what.

In the past, I did travel with Thai at times due to their having good prices to/from India while I was working there. That was 20 years ago. Oh, I do not know if this is still true, but at the time Indian Nationals were charged a much lower airfare price than non-Nationals for flights that originated in India. The trick to avoid this was never to originate your itinerary from India.

Anyway - during the time I was working in India I found Thai Air to be decent enough, even in Coach for the 3.5 hour flights from India to BKK. I use Thai Smiles these days for my shorter runs both, both domestic and nearby international.

I have opened an account with Eva due to what was their excellent schedule ORD-BKK and what were reasonable Business Class fares. I hear that all airfares are going to sh*t due to the pent up demand caused by you know what. At 73 I need to book Business for a very long flight. CX used to be my airline of choice for trans-Pacific routes to North America, but I want nothing to do with HKG these days.

Anyway, just interested in this topic.

I've just booked a Business Class round trip BKK-LHR-BKK, departing in early September. In the end, it came down to a choice between EVA and Oman. EVA was about £700 more expensive than Oman, and they fly direct which is great, but it doesn't actually make that much difference in the journey times, around 2 to 2 1/2 hours saving each way. Oman had been my go-to airline for several years before the pandemic, especially as they're flying 787's with Apex Suites in business, plus the new terminal at Muscat opened a year or two before the pandemic. I've flown in EVA's Business Class several times in the 777's in the past and thought it was good, though I preferred the 747's, but that was before the Apex Suites (and Q Suites on Qatar, not sure what Emirates calls them) came along. Unless they've completely revamped it, EVA's Business Class is very dated by today's standards. That, plus the price difference, was far more important to me that saving a few hours, so I've booked with Oman. At £2,800 it's around £800 more expensive than the last ticket I bought back in 2019, but everything considered it's not bad given the space and level of service that you get. I can't say anything about Thai, I've only flown in Cattle with them, but I found their staff rather pushy and rude.

Depending on time of year that’s a crazy fare

Cheap these days AJ !! I've seen much more than that for just one way.

No Thai Biz class for the whole of July so someone is paying.

But agreed very pricey and as said Thai Biz is better than Eva if you can get a seat .

Part of the reason could be those people who were issued Thai Travel vouchers during the lockdown are now using them as payment towards their Biz fare.

Even though prices were cheaper two years ago, adding a grand or whatever to the value of the voucher is just one of those things, especially as the pain of the initial purchase is long forgotten.

EVA have simply inflated their prices to go along with the industry I think. Increased demand along with BA now cancelled means they, along with THAI have effectively cornered the direct to BKK market, especially as THAI still operates a one-stop service at the moment into Phuket, which means there are only 2 direct flights to BKK a day from LHR, both in the evening.
