The Palace or mansion was originally built by a Chinese - Thai Businessman named Patpongnavich, this gentleman was responsible for the famous Patpong redlight district in Silom, Bangkok. Patpongnavich was building the grand structure for his wife as a gift, but Patpongnavich was not happy with just one woman in his life. He met a wealthy American woman named Shirley-Anne, who became his mistress. At some point in this love triangle Patpongnavich's wife was made aware of her husband's infidelity. The wife was furious that her husband had been cheating on her and she planned to have the American mistress raped, then murdered.

Now the owner of the guesthouse wasn't 100% about the next part, but he said that the wife was either caught conspiring to have the American mistress raped and murdered, or the event took place. Either way the wife was arrested by the police and locked away for her crime. It was at this point construction work took a halt and was never to be finished. The palace has been sold a few times, but no-one has ever done anything with the magnificent structure. Locals believe that the ghost of Shirley-Anne haunts the property and this could be why nobody sticks around to finish the project.

Coincidence or Curse?

My friend returned to the same guesthouse 3 or 4 months later and the owner had changed. He enquired about the previous owner and was told that he just left one day. Perhaps the haunted house had become too much for him, perhaps he hadn't paid his bills? Perhaps the spirit of Shirley-Anne was not happy with his presence? Perhaps he was an adulterer too?

Yep....

I was thinking the same thing. Not sure if I could handle that nowadays.

When I was a kid I used to explore drainage systems. Looking back I shudder at the memory.

You're lucky you didn't meet that pissed off looking monkey in the cave when your knee gave out.   lol

Kind of shit gives me nightmares.

Reminds me of my good mate, Andy. December 2021, he was walking the hill with the temple at Khao Tao when he was attacked by about 5 monkeys. He had never seen monkeys on that outcrop before but in being attacked, he thought he was going to die (he was 70 at the time). He doesn't remember much but did find himself about 30 meters down the hill with cuts mainly all over his legs but with other cuts over his body. He had rolled down the hill he now remembers with monkeys attacking him.

The temple monks got him a car to the hospital where he spent the night and had all his wounds dressed. A course of Rabies jabs and about a week of rest and he felt better except for some pain in his knee and hip. Insurance kicked in to pay for his needs but he just wanted to be back to the UK. On return he felt better and agreed with the insurance company that they could close the claim. Silly decision, as within weeks he began to have difficulty in walking, he had pains in his knees and hip and needed to go to his own doctor who ordered x-rays etc. He had torn ligaments in his knee and his hip was badly damaged. 13 months later he is awaiting a hip operation and knee reconstruction. He walks now only with a stick and has to live downstairs as he can not get upstairs without great difficulty. He pees in a bowl, he is quite incapacitated. Luckily he has now had a pre op assessment and due to his condition, he has got emergency funding which means he expects to have hip surgery within 2 months from now. The knee op will follow after a short time. He would normally be in Thailand now and is stuck in Northampton very depressed, his last trip saw him in a wheelchair and now he can't travel. I have seen him over the last 13 months and the deterioration is incredible, this is a guy who could walk Hin Lek Fai (steep hill in Hua Hin) regularly and now can not walk 10 yards without aid.

Moral of story, keep those monkeys well away from you.

Heck of a story, and thanks for sharing.

Covers a lot of stuff when you think about it. Particularly how life can change on a dime.

I once went up that hill in HH where all of the monkeys are. I forgot what the place is called, it's just a sliver past that fishing village (place stinks like hell) on the water.

I was really looking forward to it as I planned the visit, seemed like an opportunity to do something interesting and different, a nice little half day side trip.

So I get there, walking up the hill seeing more and more monkeys with each turn. Pregnant ones, big ones, curious ones, and even a couple that looked like they had their assholes ripped out. It kind of reminded me of a drive through Chicago's West Side on a Sunday afternoon. Except this time I wasn't driving, I was on foot.

I grabbed a bunch of bananas from a vendor like a six pack form a corner liquor store. I was ready to party. Man.... that turned into a party I wished I hadn't crashed ! I was absolutely mobbed, like I was a rock star showing up at an afterhours with an ounce of cola. Climbing all over me, on top of my head, you name it.

Long story short..... I got the hell out of there and won't be going back.

Khao Takiab is the place.

Hin Lek Fai also has its fair share of monkeys but both places have monks or people feeding them and they appear docile to those around them although if you are carrying the food too long, they will climb all over you to get to it.

Happened with me in Ao Manao on the Air Force base in Prachuab Khiri Khan. Got some bags of fruit for the Dusky Langurs and held onto the fruit for a little longer than expected. I had those bloody monkeys all over me, one on my head. Just let the bags go and the monkeys were away.

My mate wasn't expecting to see monkeys and had no food. The monks believed the monkeys were looking for food and had come to the area as they were hungry, they were not usually close to the temple. My mate was in the wrong place and suffered.

Here's some from lublau cave and sai cave, spent a bit to long in lublau cave as kept going the wrong way to find the way through to other side, got there eventually, couple of sections where the roof came down to about 3,4 ft from the floor, panicked a bit as air felt thin and torch from Mr diy seemed to be fading, bloody glad found the exit,no lights no arrows to guide you through, most people I'd imagine just come take a few photos in first chamber then leave same way, that I recommend.

Sai cave is the one with tarpaulin and board with nazi, symbols, both great caves.
