That was December 2021, the damage done in the attack had left him almost crippled and unable to walk far without pain, he finally had a hip operation last Tuesday to repair a lot of the damage, it will be the knee next. He has vowed never to walk that hill again. I remember you mentioning this last year I think, sounds terrible, are you sure tho it wasn't hin lek fai as 100s of monkeys up there and quite a few falangs go walking up there,to be honest I've never seen any monkeys on this rock let alone any humans, seems strange ,or maybe takiab temple 100s of monkeys there aswell ? Honestly I've been up here loads of times never seen a soul. Edited May 3, 2023 by Phantom51red

Spent overnight in Bangkok Hua Hin hospital and had numerous rabies shots over a 10 day period. He went back to the UK and felt slightly better but then found progressive problems with knee and hip coordination that worsened. He has been under the doctor since March last year with a view to a hip operation, that happened 14 months later (last week). X-rays etc., revealed severe damage to his hip which affected his walking, he also had ripped ligaments in his knee. Basically been unable to walk or climb stairs and was living downstairs in his house for 6 months. He was due to have the operation in February but due to having a lump removed from his back the surgeon decided they would not do the operation while he had stitches( bad timing). A bear with a sore head is close to how he had been. He is planning to go back to Hua Hin in June (after 6 weeks and further hospital visits). He will then have the knee operation hopefully on his return as promised by his surgeon. 1

The monks at the temple helped him get to the hospital. They said it was extremely unusual for monkeys to be on that hill. They suggested Covid may have seen their normal stash of donated food stopped and had gone searching. I used to live close to Hin Lek Fai and walked that hill through the car park 100s of times, never had an issue with those monkeys although the Khao Tao monkeys were incredibly aggressive and about 4 or 5 jumped on him, biting and scratching. The physical injuries were likely to have happened as he rolled a way down the hill. He didn't believe they were the same type of monkey, the Khao Tao monkeys were larger, probably still macaque but not used to people.

A few years ago while on the way to the small beach, shark beach it's nicknamed now,you know the one other side of temple,I stopped on the road leading up to it and watched this thai man throwing rocks at some monkeys near his house, they were as you described slightly bigger than maqak s ,red faced and brown fur, they obviously been raiding his house, garden area, that's the only time in the area I've seen them, they scarpered up the hill to the right so I guess they live around there and like you say made way across to the temple area looking for food, sounds like a right nightmare for your friend tho, glad he's on the mend.

Horizondave
Was a couple of good restaurants around that roundabout by the train carriage in front of the station. Sadly many other good shops and restaurants have now gone from the west side of the railway road because of the new elevated railway structures.. There was indeed,2 i used to eat quite often,so was sad to see them go,when i mentioned the roundabout im referring to the one further north tho where the train barriers are, across from the station the diggers are hard at work still clearing the land, lot of open space now,im wondering if they will build a car park or maybe some shops.

Popular Post Phantom51red
Eventually I found wat cha am Khiri only 5 mins away from where the big weekly market is in cha am 5 minutes after crossing the railway tracks that is,winding through small soi s till you see it out in the open,a small mountain surrounded by flat paddy fields and what have you The temple area us big, they are still putting the finishing touches to parts of it,as always the detail is impeccable. The cave itself was small,2 caves at either side of mountain tho more like coves than caves, not to many steps. After that stopped at a ptt station had pad krapow moo and fried veg with water. About to make my way back to hua hin. 6

Phantom51red
Well a nice relaxing day....was not going to happen,I honestly find it more therapeutic beneficial, and relaxing driving somewhere and going on small adventures. Today was something I'd been planning on doing for a long time, hiking over to the secret beach in khao khalok I've never been to,but I'd choose the more challenging route from the road straight up to Khao khalok viewpoint then go down the other side of mountain and start the hike to the secret beach. It does gave a name now as signposted, didn't last time I was here,so maybe not so secret, doesn't matter I was pretty confident with the heat I'd be the only idiot hiking to this beach.🙂 As I'm wtiting this from back in the cool confines of my apartment,Airtcon full blast ,I shall try and post pics in order. Stopped between pak nam pran and khao khalok to take photo of objective being the small mountain. Arrived and will park underneath trees in the shade. First steps to viewpoint 5

Horizondave
Thanks for posting, driven that route many times when visiting Dolphin Bay, Khao Khalok and Pak Nam Pran. Always stopped off at 'Very Good Restaurant' at Pak Nam Pran for the excellent food and view (on the seafront) but sadly it was knocked down a few years back. It has relocated to the town itself, not far off the main roundabout into town, may try it when next in town, adored their sea bass in black bean sauce.
