No problem that nice green park at Bali-hi would be a perfect place to have.......errrrr.......well.........About 10 years ago......Would have been a perfect place for the car show...

Last year the first day of the car show was at Bali Hi and then they displayed them on Beach Road the next day. Also there is not a single poster or advertisement on Beach Road for the car show that supposed to be taking place this morning at 10:00 a.m.

Your first photo looks like an extremely posher version of my first ever car being a "Sit up and Beg" Ford Popular.

I was 17 years old and drove 3,000 illegal miles before I passed my test. It cost me 25 GBP's and lasted me one year and two days until some drunk on Boxing Day drove into it whilst it was parked round the corner and wrote it off.

The insurance company of the other driver paid me an "ex-gratia " payment of 35 GBP's and the Policeman who knocked on our door to tell me the good news offered me 5 pounds for the four tires which was about the only thing that survived the crash.🤣

What a coincidence Jambo, i also had one and like you it was my first ever car, had it a couple of years then sold it for 25GBP.  The customised one in Painters pic looks good imo.

Apologies for the TF

Based on a  talk with striderman It seems only a few classic cars. Mostly Imports and i am not interested in the imported rice rockets so did not miss a thing

I would say the vaste majority (90% plus) were modified imported modern in some way.  Fortunately they did not have to travel along soi casino en route, as most would have lost exhausts/bodykits/spines etc

It killed a few minutes wandering around, but wasnt really my thing either. For me the worst thing, however, was the volume of the "music" being pumped out. Imagine the loudest gogo sound system on steroids, and then treble it....

Mine was black, produced from a time when they were all black. I am not sure if they ever had synchromesh gear boxes but double declutching or "feeling" gear changes became the norm.

The turn left/right indicators on mine were little arms that popped out from each door and were manually cable operated. I took my driving test in it having driven to the test center where for the first time I put the L-Plates on the car.

The Examiner loved the car and even prompted me to have another go at answering a question I gave a stupid answer.  It was the first, and only, time up to then that I managed to reverse the car round a corner without hitting the kerb. 🤣

I was still at school and had no income other than that from my paper rounds. To put petrol in it I had a length of hose pipe plus fishing line with a cork attached. Some woman's Triumph Herald became my de-facto filling station. 🤣

After seeing the photos and reading your description of the "music", I don't regret missing the event either.
