Been ill since Wednesday with a sore throat and night sweats and shivers, starting to recover now. Went 24 hours without food! Hopefully get out for a run in the morning

I was like that waking up on Boxing Day. Took about a week to recover. One day I spent about 16 hours in bed, I was exhausted, had no energy whatsoever and couldn’t eat. Luckily it was one of the days we had off work over Xmas. Made it to work everyday but just felt so tired.

Had the flu shot about a month before so probably would have felt worse.

Getting ready to watch The Rams vs the Bears football game....the weather in Chicago is brutal.

Catching a football from Matt Stafford is going to be like having a brick thrown at you!

Go Rams..

Flu vaccines contain

inactivated virus antigens, plus small amounts of stabilizers (sugars like sucrose, sorbitol), emulsifiers (polysorbate 80), antibiotics (neomycin, gentamicin), formaldehyde (to inactivate viruses), and sometimes egg proteins (ovalbumin) or adjuvants like aluminum salts for stronger immunity

Key Components
  • Antigens: Inactivated influenza viruses (the main active part).
  • Stabilizers: Sugars (sucrose, sorbitol) and gelatin to keep the vaccine potent.
  • Emulsifiers: Polysorbate 80 (to mix ingredients) and sorbitan trioleate (in some adjuvants like MF59).
  • Preservatives: Thimerosal a mercury-containing organic compound(in multi-dose vials) to prevent bacterial growth; some vaccines are thimerosal-free.
  • Antibiotics: Trace amounts (neomycin, gentamicin, kanamycin) to prevent bacterial contamination during manufacturing.
  • Formaldehyde: Used to inactivate the virus, present in tiny, safe amounts.
  • Egg Proteins: Trace amounts of ovalbumin from egg-based production; some vaccines use cell-based methods to avoid this.
  • Adjuvants (in some vaccines): Aluminum salts or oil-in-water emulsions (like MF59) to boost immune response.

My daughter is currently in Honolulu for Pacific Communications Council.  Then Monday evening she's taking a non-stop to Chicago for a corporate meetup.  She thankful for having a winter coat she bought a few years ago for a Feb. trip to Norway.

Thiomersal (also known as thimerosal) is a mercury-containing preservative that was phased out of routine childhood vaccines in the UK between 2003 and 2005. As of 2026, it is not present in any of the annual flu vaccines currently in use in Britain, nor in standard UK routine childhood immunisation programmes.

The most popular method for the British to ingest mercury is Tuna. Tuna is the most common source of mercury intake in the UK due to its high consumption levels, with studies indicating that canned tuna contains measurable, though often lower, levels compared to fresh tuna.

Yep,tho the first part of the journey up until you hit the salt farms, put the seatbelt on ! Lol ,I guess they are trying their best to minimize the delay.

Really are going at a snails pace at the moment  I'll update next from the airport how long it took.

Took a wander way out to check out this pool hall.

Was surprised to see it empty apart from one guy practicing, not in pic and a couple of staff.

My slumber has just been disturbed by a National Alert test siren sounding on my phone.  No action needed, apparently,  except for returning to snooze.

Interestingly my uk phone, buried deep in my safe, also squarked with the same message.
