Just about to take a shower and get ready to go out a bit later for a drink with a couple of pals. It's a Friday night and could be busy so we are going to start off about 6.30 and maybe leave earlier.

I shall be driving so only a couple of pints and maybe a few soft drinks in between.

Took my daughter and grandson for a roast dinner at a Toby Carvery yesterday afternoon and it was fairly empty.

Nice meal and cheap as chips. £30 including drinks.

I hope it's not too busy in the pub this evening and that we can just walk in without a reservation, as some places are operating

That's a drag. The rules arnt so bad when you actually get in.

Quite a few places down in London are operating quite normally but with some safety measures in place. A few have closed their car parks off and extended their beer gardens or created outside space and put up tables and chairs to increase capacity.

Hope things change soon oop North mate.

I am in the middle of a heat wave atm in Farangland and the central aircon unit for my condo decides not to blow any cool air. An HVAC buddy of mine came over for a look-see. The unit is 26 years old and I know it's on it's last leg. It cost $4,000 dollars USD to replace and that's really cheap because my friend would be replacing it. We go out back for a look at unit and all it needed was a "capacitor" (whatever the f**k that is) and a freon boost. $400 bucks all in. I saved $3,600. Now I should be jumping for joy but the money will needed for the next BLM Statue Shooting Protest cluster f**k. I need the money to finish my bunker. Gonna make it like a man cave for the Armageddon that's coming here to Yankville.  This Shit Show of a country is the last place I want to be right now.

There is a big upsurge in the sale of Survivalist equipment and guns/amo so I read last week.

A motor start capacitor alters the current to one or more windings of a single phase AC induction motor to create a rotating magnetic field. The force of the magnetic field provides sufficient torque to allow it to begin to rotate. The capacitor stays in the circuit long enough to rapidly bring the motor up to a predetermined speed then is removed from the circuit.

Just had a real smile moment.

A couple of months back my lap top decided to stop working and, like an idiot, I hadn't backed it up for a while.  I had saved my photos to a flash drive so thought OK but my documents had been lost. I had an Ultra Passport with 1TB on which contained all my data from a previous PC and the data up to 2018 on the laptop but thought the external hard drive was in my safe in my place in Thailand.

Anyhow took the laptop off to a techie shop nearby and he said the hard drive was gone so asked what he could do and he offered to put in a new 500 GB hard drive for 80 quid with Windows 10 thrown in. Thought a good deal and he duly sorted it out plus he managed to get a bit of data off the old hard drive but only documents not photos.

Got the laptop home and proceeded to set everything back up and then put in the flash drive which gave me an 'oh crap' moment when it looked like all the files were there but on trying to open it I had about 1KB of data, what happened there.

Got Porn to phone home and go into the safe to find the 1TB hard drive which was no where to be seen so I thought I must have brought it over in 2018 and put it among my things. Another thorough search around the house found nothing so I thought all the photos from 2012 onwards were lost including many of my daughter from birth, I was not happy.

Forward till today when Porn and I were having a clear out ready for hopefully moving home within the month.  Hiding underneath some tools and some essential household documents was a box of Christmas cards and for unknown reasons there was my 1TB Ultra passport tucked in, oh happy day.

Duly attached it and found everything off my old PC and, more importantly, every document and photo from 2012 to 2017, I was elated. Updated a load of photos off Porn's Facebook and phone as well, she has kept every photo and video since she got a new phone in 2017 (over 7GB) and although I had transferred them to the lap top previously we had not deleted them off her device.

Today I am real happy that I found my Ultra Passport......

^ Great news

Got all my photos in the cloud , but a few years ago I started printing photobooks from trips I had done , just in case .... have loads of my parents and grandparents photos in albums and boxes , but these days most people don't bother printing their pics ... when they are gone I guess the pics will just disappear into the ether as well ...

I had started to recently download photos to One drive but kept getting notifications that it was nearly full so had copied them across to the hard drive on the laptop which was not a great move in hindsight.

Can't remember the last time I actually got holiday photos, family photos printed but I have a suitcase full from the 70's onwards, even have loads of boxes of Kodachrome slides.....

I know the feeling. Losing old pic files is a bit like losing a bit of your own history.

Even worse happened to me. I backed up files and about 100 movies on. 2T external HD. I was looking for some files a year ago and the HD died.  I have not got around to having it tested and maybe, just maybe it's the enclosure which is 12 volt adapter powered that is buggered
