A Newcastle United takeover has moved into its final stages after an investor group fronted by British businesswoman Amanda Staveley and led by Saudi Arabia’s sovereign wealth fund reached a £300m agreement with Mike Ashley.

If the takeover is approved by the Premier League, the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund [PIF], which is directly controlled by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, is expected to acquire an 80 per cent stake in the club.

Staveley’s company, PCP Capital Partners, will take a 10 per cent shareholding. The remaining 10 per cent will be bought by the Reuben brothers, Simon and David, UK property developers and two of the richest men in the world with a net worth of around £18bn.

A 31-page charge agreement lodged at Companies House on Tuesday lays the legal groundwork for the potential deal to be completed.

The documents also suggest that Ashley will be loaning PCP Capital Partners £150m in an attempt to get an agreement over the line.

Absolutely no doubt in my mind whatsoever that we will f**k this up. Would not surprise me in the slightest if we spent 200 million and still got relegated.

£750 Million clubs would have to pay back to Sky/BT if they don't.

All this crazy transfer fees and salaries could well come back to haunt these clubs.

Might even bring football back in to the real world.

I really hope it does as the EPL has lost its identity. It's been totally ruined by money.

They need to finish the season.

Cricket is on hold until at least 1st July.

It might give people something to look forward to, a bit of excitement, drown out the blubbering hysteria of the media.

FIFA , the best sporting body money can buy- recommending all leagues are brought to a finish.

"Fifa's chief doctor has warned against restarting the interrupted 2019-20 campaign and suggested governing bodies prepare for action next season instead.

Michel d'Hooghe said "as a doctor" he would be "sceptical" about continuing leagues amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The chair of Fifa's medical committee told BBC Sport: "My proposal is if it is possible, avoid playing competitive football in the coming weeks.

"Try to be prepared for the start of good competition next season."
