ThaiTim Posted May 17, 2024 Posted May 17, 2024 Being ignored by the server when you order your coffee in perfect Thai or when you pay at yhe check out in Lotus and they give your change to the missus 1 3
Glasseye Posted May 17, 2024 Author Posted May 17, 2024 My main 7/11 I stop in every day is almost always pleasant. Employees friendly and respectful, and I often get them laughing about something. Others I have been in you would think someone just died.

tommy dee Posted May 18, 2024 Posted May 18, 2024 I laugh now, because I understand, but before would be angry if in a queue for service of some kind and the assistant went past me to the next Thai. figured out in the end that those who are shy, embarassed to speak English do that, and the ones who are comfortable speaking English do a good job. Lucky now as my Thai is "passable" along with talking with hands and pointing. TOT was the best for that back in the day 2 2

Took me a while to properly factor this in and account for it. Once I did it helped considerably with how I approached some communications. Amazing how a considerate/soft approach with good eye contact, relaxed body language and a polite smile can make a huge difference. Also recognizing certain circumstances and places where attempting any question is futile (saves a lot of stress for both sides). I admire those who are willing to give it their best shot even though it's basically just pantomime. Always give them a little extra nod of thanks. 3
Butch Posted May 19, 2024 Posted May 19, 2024 (edited) Girls on phones in beer bars when I've finished my drink and I'm in desperate need of another. Not so much ignoring, more distracted in that case perhaps. One thing that really really grinds my gears is when you see a familiar girl from a bar whom you may have got drinks for before and have spoken to, and she totally blanks you in the street or wherever. Some of these queens are very much up themselves. I had it happen in Bukhao market once, said "hello" , she looked at me then turned her back. On the flipside of that though, I was sat in the Marquee bar one afternoon pre covid when the ladyboy from LK Royal Wing wandered past, saw me, and without any kind of an invite came over and sat down on my table, ordered a beer and had a good chat (she was making her way to LK Metropole for the second half of her shift and decided she was thirsty lol). She then slapped 100 baht down on the table (I gave it back), said goodbye and left. Edited May 19, 2024 by Butch 3 3

In some cases that I definitely know about are Farang bosses insisting that they "own" the girl outside of business hours too, so some will purposely ignore you in case somebody tells the boss that she is meeting customers outside.... I think turning her back was a clear message not to talk to her and by doing so probably was showing you some respect for recognising her .. I used to get it with a few girls that I knew very well as neighbours but would ignore me when out .. 6

I used to get it with a few girls that I knew very well as neighbours but would ignore me when out .. that's a fair point mate. I hadn't looked at it from that angle. Makes sense as well, why risk hassle with the boss, or even getting grassed up by someone she works with. I think also that some girls might be a bit shy out of the GGB . I know a couple who dress down when outside the bar just so not as to attract attention. 1 1 2
