Your longest ever point to point travelling time.

Not including overnight hotel stays.,

We regularly do the LHR-MNL trip, usually 13 hours plus or minus one depending if we go via Singapore or Hong Kong (never go via Kuala Lumpur as the aircraft goes across and down the coast to Malaysia, then it's 4 hours from KUL to MNL which is a ball ache). Usually there's a 2 /3 hour layover in the transit lounge then onto MNL for say, 3 hours.

Door to door it's around 26 hours (including time at the airport).

We can handle that, it's not too bad. However, my longest ever travel time was going to Australia in 95 which took what seemed like an age. Emirates from LHR to DXB, DXB to HKG then HKG to MEL all well and good, but a 3 hour layover in Dubai and a 6 hour wait in HKG meant that I really needed a shower on arrival. I was young and stupid then.

I timed my door to door trip from Thailand to UK in April and it was 22 hours 6 minutes. I know we all have different proximity to our Airport of choice which might have an impact on the time.

My return trips from middle America (Milwaukee) with two stops usually approach if not exceed 30 hrs doorstep to doorstep. For my upcoming trip I'm looking at 13h 20m, ORD to HND.

Longest ever flight was in the neighborhood of 14.5 hrs, DTW to ICN.

I've never been into buying luxury products or services, but one luxury I treat myself to is BC. Makes them much more bearable.

I once had a 36 hour birthday. Due to a combination of billable and non-billable flight segments I continually flew West for 36 hours on my birthday.

BKK-BOM-ZRH-DFW-ORD with various layovers. I also could not catch upgrades on any segment related to a ZRH leg. Damn Swiss bankers. 😞

I ended up in the hospital with coach burn a few days later. Damn stupid young people. 😞

Same with me. Left here on my b'day and landed in Milwaukee 28 hours later on my b'day.

What is "coach burn"?

It took me about 26 hours to go from my home  to my BKK hotel in January through Vancouver and Taipei; it has taken me up to 32 hours in days gone by depending on layovers. Thankfully i can drive to our local airport in ten minutes or less so this is not a factor, unlike some of my UK friends who burn up hours just getting to LHR or other departure airports.

My longest single flight was Vancouver to Manila at 14 hours.

Does unintentional hotel stays count  .... I mentioned it before , but as we approached Heathrow in Dec 2010 , the airport closed due to snow  ... and we were diverted to Koln in Germany , any non EU passengers had to spend the first night in the Airport .. the rest of us were shipped to hotels ..eventually....

we had two nights there with only our hand luggage... then eventually flew back to Heathrow and I had to try and get another flight home ... it took about 72 hours door to door 555

My normal trips usually include at least one overnight stay in London , either because it's an early flight to Bangkok or as with EVA , the return flight lands too late

Arterial leg thrombosis caused by sitting in a restricted position for an excessive amount of time thus inhibiting blood flow. In my case a Xanax or two helped create the problem.

Actually, kind of a serious problem. In layman's terms a blood clot forms in your leg. The big danger is that a piece of the clot could break off and be carried to either you brain (stroke) or lungs (pulmonary thrombosis where one could drown in their own blood).

Well if unintentional hotel stays count, I have another story.

20+ years or so ago I had a TJ favorita. We were close friends for over 5 years and she had the patience to help a thick tongued Gringo learn Spanish. Said Gringo also took classes at a local community college and read books as well. I believe that a person is only "fluent" in the language they learn from their mother, but I became more than conversant in Spanish.

Anyway said Favorita was from El Salvador. We became close. I helped pay for her sons to attend the University in San Salvador. I bought them scientific calculators so that they could be competitive in their classes. One son made it to graduation. It was too much pressure for the older brother. He was a campanero at heart.

Anyway, on January 13th 2001, I scheduled a few vacation days to spend some time with her. A 7.7 quake hit El Salvador while I was traveling there.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/January_2001_El_Salvador_earthquake

My flight to San Salvador had been delayed in Miami for 2 hours. I was pissed about it. About half way to San Salvador the pilot circled for close to an hour. He then announced the earthquake and said they were looking for alternative landings. If the plane had left on time we would have been landing directly into the earthquake.

I had been in El Salvador two weeks earlier and had driven by where the mountain collapsed killing thousands.

The plane returned to Miami. With my AA Executive Platinum status at the time I was offered a hotel room until things could be sorted out. I spent two nights in said hotel room, but could not make contact with said favorita other than to contact the hotel where we had a reservation to learn she had never made it there.

Had to get back to work in Chicago at this point. When I walked into the door my boss smiled and said "I was wondering if we would see you today". 🙂 Good boss.

Maria (the favorita) was able to get to me by phone a few days later. It was good to hear that a friend was safe.

So 72 hours start to finish for zero accomplished miles. AA actually refunded me the points for the trip. Talk about back in the days. 🙂

My longest planned journey was from London to Puerto Galera in the Philippines.

16 hours via KL into Manila.

3.5 hours coach ride to Batangas.

90 minute Long Tail boat ride to Little La Laguna beach.

Best part of 24 hours.

Longest unplanned was during Covid when Qatar air took so long to check every one in we missed the connection to Phuket.

I had to spend 24 hours in Doha airport.

We weren't allowed out due to Covid and there wasn't any hotels available.

The more common term I've heard for the condition is deep vein thrombosis (DVT). It can be a serious problem for those that sit stationary on long haul flights.

Always always always walk and stretch!! I try to find the unused Galley during sleep time and limber up there !!

I guess splitting the journey up is best but I can't be bothered with the hassle ..

Me too.

The vehicle loading on the food and drink damaged the door of our Emirates flight at Glasgow airport.  Overnight in an hotel as a spare part got flown in on the next days flight.  I didn't think I was entitled to compensation under EU law as I thought it would be deemed an "extraordinary circumstance".

However about 5 years later I heard of someone being awarded compensation for a similar occurrence so tried my luck even though I was just outwith the time period permitted, and without any fuss, Emirates gave me 600 Euro equivalent.

Another loooong trip mostly with Emirates was UK to Wangerei, New Zealand but the ~10 days I stopped in Thailand on the way probably makes this 12 day journey admissible for this thread.

I got full compensation from Qatar too, but with paying 17 quid for a pint and hiring a sleep pod for 8 hours, there wasn't too much left. LOL

At least my SHA hotel was understanding and the PCR test on arrival which I had to pay for was still valid 24 hours later.

Does 54 hours on a "non-stop" bus from Sydney to Perth count? Done that and variations a couple of times. Also did Darwin to Brisbane, that was delayed in Townsville as the windscreen that had been broken by a bird strike and they had problems getting a new windscreen. All in the days before cheap flights wiped out the long haul busses.

Air Asia gave me a 14 hour lay over in KL going from BKK to Perth, making it a 22 hour trip. As I remember the plane was several hours late leaving BKK so the trip was "technically" only 20 hours.
