I'm NOT, hate the f****** things but wifey is and won't leave the house without one. Now i was under the impression that masks don't prevent you from catching Covid, am i right or wrong ? Now what with the air pollution in Thailand perhaps the Thais are right to wear one and we should all comply.

What do you think guys ? Perhaps i should just do a poll.

Don't wear one myself, hot enough here without making things worse! Feels like a smallish minority of people wearing them in Hua Hin.

You make an interesting point on pollution, a survey of Thais to find out why they are wearing them (pollution, disease protection or COVID specifically) would be englightening.

Same here, I will never wear one of those wretched things again unless somebody forces me to - just about drove me nuts during Covid here in a cold winter climate with my glasses fogging up all the time because of the mask...

My take is the majority wear a mask based on the misguided notion it protects them from airborne viruses. Makes far morse sense to wear a mask if you're sick to reduce the risk of others catching what you have.

I scoffed at the idea when they first began suggesting it.

Then when it became more or less mandatory I would wear one reluctantly when in public.

As things progressed I began to watch NBC Nightly News. Seeing the E.R. people on ventilators and the semi truck temp. mourgs at the hospitals, etc. things changed. I began to wear one constantly, cringed everytime someone got on an elevator with me and avoided other people completely.

Fast forward.... I went to just carrying one in my pocket and using it only when in places that required it.

Now.... don't even carry one in my pocket.

Nope never again, unless like some falangs I seen last trip wearing them due to personal health problems I guess, then it would be a must as you wouldn't want covid finishing you off.

My gf still wears one sometimes,i think due to pollution and the sun a lot of thia s still wear them, tho I'm sure I read 2 days ago Thailand had rising cases and some covid deaths, quick search discovered this from who.

Since March 2024, data reported by the Ministry of Public Health on a weekly basis indicates that hospital admissions due to COVID-19 have been increasing. More recently, the increase has been more significant – with the latest information showing 1672 new admissions and 9 deaths in the week prior, with 390 seriously unwell patients of which 148 required mechanical ventilation in hospitals on 27 April.

My observations in Bangkok are that about 50% of Thais still wear masks, farangs less than 10%.

Asians seem to wear them more for pollution than china plague. Far fewer wear them in the Provinces, maybe it's different where you live in Korat but up here in Udon Thani, maybe 25% of Thais wear the wretched things in the city areas, and far fewer out in the sticks.

Same Same but I have to admit I had a very strong urge to wear one in Det Udom hospital last week visiting somebody.....but that wasn't really directly because of Covid of course ....

Yeah, I recognize the temptation to wear one in germ factories, but I find a better risk management strategy is to avoid touching anything if I can avoid it. It makes me chuckle seeing folks wear masks and lower them to rub their noses or eyes. I read somewhere that an average person touches their face hundreds of time a day.

Not worn one since the pandemic, we had to wear them at work as people were testing positive for COVID.

Now I’m not bothered, never had the last booster vaccine I was offered either.

f**k it, life is too short to worry, especially as none of my immediate family made it to 60 because of cancer.

I understand wearing one from the pollution viewpoint, Even in UK I often see people wearing them in supermarkets still. I can't help to think they're more of a "comfort blanket" to some or offer the placebo effect.

Last time for me was visiting my Dad in hospital, purely because it was a cancer ward and people undergoing chemo have their immunity supressed, and to me, despite my personal concerns on how effective they are, I wore one to hopefully reassure any other patients that I was trying to be responsible.

In public however. Nope. Never again. On reflection it was enough of an assault on our civil liberties in the first place. Not my intention to derail the topic into a Covid discussion though, so the above is purely my opinion as it stands at the time of writing.

The Mrs and I wear one when we go grocery shopping. This is to be polite to the people working at the grocery store (Little Walk Villa Market in our case). Many of the staff at the store wear masks.

I also believe that wearing a mask will not prevent one from catching Covid, but will limit your ability to pass it on.

No, I do not like wearing a mask and often go to half-mask (nose exposed) within the grocery store.

I wish I had worn one when I was in BKK in february as I ended up with a cough from the pollution. Also wish I had some that was scented so I wouldn't smell all the stinking cannabis down Sukh Soi 11.

I have made a mental note to remember masks next time.

I hadn't realised you could  buy disposable gimp masks. I just Rinse mine out in soapy water. Where do you buy your disposables from ? What shop do you use in Pattaya. Obviously not made out of latex 😁😁😁
