So who is the culprit?

A couple of weeks ago I checked my Kasikorn account via the app on my phone.

Some odd transactions via my debit card. 37.38 baht going out, then one minute later, 37.38 baht going back in.

Next day, exactly the same thing, but difference amount - 97.94.

Mmmmm, then the following day 3 transactions out of 198, 159 and 866 baht.

Obviously something not right, I tried to LINE message to the LINE id provided by Kasikorn, came back with "cannot send, this number already has maximum friends". Great.

Ok, so the app gives a number and I call it.

Fair play to Kasikorn, very pleasant Thai lady with excellent English. After going through security she pulls up my account and I explain the dodgy transactions. She flags them, all of them simply saying "e-commerce" with no trader name, except the 866 which she said was "Go daddy" (for website creation registration and creation).

She confirmed to me all the fraudulent transactions and said for confirmation she'll email me a form that I have to complete, whereby they'll investigate and refund, which may take a few weeks. Within a few minutes I received the email, completed the form with all the fraudulent transactions and emailed it back, receiving a "confirmation of receipt" email.

Kasikorn were excellent and within a week I got notifications of each of the fraudulent transactions being reimbursed, over a 2 day period.

Obviously my debit card was cancelled (I'd stopped it via the app anyway) and within 4 days I received the new one. The app provided a temporary PIN, which I had to use at a K-bank ATM where I could reset the PIN and the card was then activated.

So all good.

So I then started to think how some oik had got my debit card details.

I haven't used the debit card to withdraw cash for months, so unlikely to be that (my gf always gives me cash and I transfer the equivalent to her bank account. Saves me going to the bank and encourages her to save as I send to her BKK savings account that she has no card for and no transferees on the account).

I never pay for anything with my debit card, always use the scan function in the app.

So it basically boils down to 3 companies who had my debit card details, who I pay via the apps. Bolt, Lazada and Thai airways.

One of those fuckers has been lax with my card details.

I've changed Bolt now so that I'll pay cash, obviously the debit card they have on record is no longer active anyway.

I would think Thai Airways is pretty safe.

So have to decide when I next want to order something from Lazada whether I trust them with my new card details.

The Kasikorn bank lady was really matter of fact on the phone. Makes me think this is a regular occurrence.

Any service contact I have had with K bank has been excellent, every time either on the phone or in person. I will never forget not long ago I ran into an issue late at night at Swampy. I can't remember exactly what the issue was now, but I do remember how good they were with helping me sort it out.

I will not go near Lazada anymore. App on phone has been deleted a long time ago. I'd bet big money your issue was related to that trash of an app.

Lazada certainly is a totally crap app. You never really know what you're going to get when you order something.

Slightly off topic but is Temu available in Thailand?
Chinese again so maybe out of the frying pan etc. but I've never had a problem with them.

Temu reminds me of buying anything from Hong Kong back in the 79s. Lasts about as long as a rib bone in range of a soi dog.

Times change. I haven't bought a lot from them but what I have is decent quality and build.

It is.  I've read several similar reports over the last 6 - 12 months.
