Baht bus

Seen 2-3 of this new type of baht bus in town recently. Looks like a plastic or fibre glass design. It looks very closed in and doesn't seem to have seat cushions, or a decent view. No standing at the back either. If this is the way forward, I can see a price rise on the way. Up to 20 baht! What will the cheap arses do then 😂🍻 sorry pics not very good

Is there any topic that has featured in the last 20+ years of various Thai Forums more often than that of the Pattaya Baht bus. 😄

Or better value for money!

Standing on the back of the Baht Buses is cool, its always my first choice....

That back standing area is a real money maker for the Baht Buses when its packed...

I hope they lose interest in the EVs due to the cost and all the lost charging time...

But

The way the city rolls is to cram policies down peoples throats even if every one is against it... Like removing all the signs from Walking Street...So even if the new Baht Buses are not as good as the old ones, it will not matter....

Except when you fall off. Then its good business for the hospitals and no inurance pay out from the Baht bus

😁

Or with the appalling standard of Thai drivers you’ll probably get rear ended.

That's odd, Toyota don't make a full EV version of the Hilux as yet, but the plug in socket correlates with where the EV plug is. That's one of the test bed models... Well spotted!!

Still going with state of the art leaf spring suspension as well lol.

The fact that you stand on the back of those things pretty much tells the story.

I also prefer to stand on the back whenever I can - easy to get on and off, nice cool breeze while in motion, and often the only way to get back and forth from Jomtien because the busses are always so busy...

My mate Sweatie was standing on the back of a baht bus going along Beach Road Jomtien when it went over one of those "sleeping policemen" and he was catapulted into the road. Not hospital job but looked a mess.

Mind you, he always does. 🤣

Maybe he should have been hanging on tighter, there's plenty to hang on to...

I used to do it, but over the years I''ve heard too many horror stories and started to do the math. I guess I'm just an old ninny, but the horror of falling off one of those things and getting run over by a concrete truck doesn't appeal to me.

When I get on those things I make sure I am well planted with my feet and have a good grip on something. And very careful when getting off and paying. Motorbikes whzzing by and uneven pavement everywhere.

Some of those guys shift and brake hard.

Well, that's just Thailand in general and Pattaya in particular - everyone should be aware of what's going on around them and always expect the unexpected and you should be okay. I'd worry more (and do!) about crossing 2nd or 3rd Roads on foot than I would about riding on baht busses, so chill out, hang on tight, and don't be an old ninny, lol....

Thanks, I'm usually chilled, even when soaked in sweat. lol

Yes, crossing those roads can be quite a challange. And your point about always being aware is well taken and certainly a priority in my book (as you know).

As challenging as crossing those roads can be typically my radar is on full power. It's the little side Sois where the bikes (especially the electric ones that you cant hear) come whipping around a corner out of know  where.

Fcuk that , if I'm paying 10 baht , I'm having a seat ... if it's full I'll wave them on and get the next one 😎

If they raise the price to 20 baht we might as well close this forum down because because I bet all the expats here will be leaving on the first plane out of Thailand...

20 baht will break peoples bank...
