Anyone Know About The Such?

Recommended Posts

Well to keep it short, if a foreigner really upsets a Thai & this is also for Thai people as well, the people here have some sort of public shaming or defamation. So for example, if someone is really angry at you, they will put everything they know about you & their issue on either a LINE group chat or some social media that is known & kept amongst Thais only. Next, once you get on this sort of thing, people who you never even met know about you if they are the types to care about this sort of thing.

Has anyone heard about this?

Kinda like 'doxing'?

If so, it's hardly a Thai thing, though sounds like a culturally specific 'him no pay for my new ipad/gold necklace/iphone etc etc, him keenok'

I'm sure a few 1000 Baht could see your name removed from the naughty list, and back on the jai dee list!

I'll not even charge you for the above advice.

Kind Regards

'Naughty list.' I think it exists here & kept away from foreigners as yes it's a cultural thing.' Thanks for the post.

Baaahaaaawaaahaha !

Neighbor problems basically. But from what I'm grasping from the whole ordeal, I'm shocked to the extent how much the locals can be obsessed about the foreigner in the village. So much so, that some how, it damages reputation when going to a new school for example. It seems there are just some who really take interest in the such.

Doesn't surprise me at all in any rural area.

I am in a kind of "suburban" style environment with a splattering of farangs. I keep a low profile when at home. But stick out like a sore thumb when I do my rides to the market and gym.

They probably think I'm crazy or a little eccentric (which I reckon I am), but I get a lot of smiles and head nods. I really have no control over what they may say (or not) about me. I think many of them recognize I am a long stayer, and that I fit in well.

There were a couple of farang blobs at the market yesterday (maybe mid 30's, Euro grung types). Bouncing around like pinballs. One of them accidently walked into me. I ignored him, but he stank like shit.

Every once in a while I will read some idiot driver (Thai or Farang) the riot act, so I am sure that catches some attention. I seem to always be able to get along with the people I need to.

Now that you mention it... I remember before I relocated here from North Carolina there was some kind of on-line "neighborhood news facebook type bullshit" going around. I wanted absolutely nothing to do with that crappola. Fcuk that with a huge rod.

Sounds as if you've had a bad experience. I've spent a lot of time in Thailand, but not in villages which for a foreigner would mean that everyone knows who you are and perhaps what you are doing. My opinion is if it is just you affected time will heal, but if you have kids who are involved that would be very unpleasant.

This comment above intrigued me..

-Are your children being subjected to abuse online? If so, then yes it exists especially on facebook with other kids. l!

- Are you a teacher? If so, you WILL be subjected to more interest from locals than your "everyday farang" living in a village.

Unlike others posting on this thread I HAVE lived in Thai villages. This is my 3rd... In total, let's say at least 15 years in remote villages . Even for the 12 years I spent in Pattaya it was amongst Thais. I have never heard of, nor experienced, what you are describing.

I tend to live a quiet life keeping myself to myself. Perhaps that is why, but if you have been seen drugged up or drunk wandering around naked in your village wielding a machete shouting that you've got an Alien in your brain, then it is a tad likely they may show an interest in you ...

How do you know "The Such" exists ... Who told you ???

Given how easy it is to get someone arrested and fined or jailed for online defamation (just look at all the poor sods who've written bad hotel or restaurant reviews on the likes of Facebook and ended up in big trouble here), I'd say it's rather unlikely.

I am still trying to get my head around understanding what is 'The Such'. I still have no idea.

I have questioned myself on a few threads today, maybe I need to sit down and get some tea.

I think the confusion is because all the words are capitalised, so The Such looks like a name for something. But if you forget the capitals it's just as such.

Apologies to the OP, not trying to be the grammar police here, but am curious if the topic title's lack of a noun renders the use of "the such" confusing?
