ChiFlyer
We will be making a trip to the US this Fall. Last time I did this I bought a sim from "Red Pocket". I had them ship the sim to my mail forwarding address in TX and then had it forwarded to myself in Thailand. No problem. Worked great. It cost $10 for the sim and $10 a month for the service. I was able to install the sim in Thailland and then activate it as soon as the plane landed. I have a dual sim iPhone. The esim slot is taken up by AIS, so I need a physical sim for the second slot. I figured I would go the same route for this year's trip. Red Pocket is being a total pain in the butt declining my AMEX for a bunch of silly reasons that make no sense. I called AMEX and nothing has been declined by them. I will make one more try tonight, but if that does not work I will look for another provider. Any recommendations? On my android phone an esim doesn't need a slot, so i have 2 sim cards and can use an esim also. Of course not all active at the same time. My recommendation is to buy an esim from shopee

Ah got it, it's the difference between android and Iphone. For android dual sim means 2 slots and can accommodate 2 sim cards, esim is additional. In that case buy a travel sim card from shopee and put in the slot. Just have to make sure you buy a sim card not an esim.

I see I can get a nano sim, which is what I need for my iPhone. My main questions for the seller is -> when does the 30 day clock start? Which cellular provider network are they riding on? ChiFlyer
Got someone who speaks some English to answer on the seller chat. The product I posted is internet only, basically no cellular access. They are OOS on sims that come with a telephone number. He suggested that I buy a UK sim and turn on roaming. Not my first choice. One of my major reasons for having a cellular number is to be able to use "Google Maps" while I am in the car. I will drill Shopee tomorrow for other options and look at other no contract US cellular providers.
ChiFlyer
I find this kind of amazing. I had tried using a VPN to submit my Red Pocket order. I thought that perhaps they were declining my payment based on my Thai IP. I had the VPN set to Chicago. Red Pocket support told me that my AMEX payment was being declined due to their "radar" software detecting that I was too far from the delivery location. Total bs I thought. Just to check things out I set the VPN to Houston (the delivery location and address associated with my AMEX card). Order went straight through. How the hell does a company waste money on business rules like this and still make a profit? In any case I will use their sim for one month because I know it will work for what I want. Just eff'n amazing IMO.
ChiFlyer
Well I am officially a dumb ass today. I moved to an iPhone 14 since my last trip to the US. An iPhone 14 only takes esims. There is no physical slot. Red Pocket was good enough to change the order at no charge. Problem is the esim can only be activated after I arrive in the US, so I step off of the plane without phone service. I guess I can find a wifi connection at ORD to activate via my laptop.
