I'm arriving in Thailand in Oct for 11 weeks & will get a 60 day visa on arrival which I can extend for a further 30 days.

We'll be staying in our house to begin with but then doing a bit of travelling & staying in rented condo's or hotels.

When I go to immigration for a 30 day extension do I need to take a TM30 with me & does the missus have to do one for every time we return home?

I believe it depends on which province you live in , I was talking to a mate at the weekend he uses immigration in Phichit and said he only has to register when he first arrives back in Thailand, if he goes on trips to other provinces he doesn't have to register again when he returns .... but said other areas have different interpretations of the rules ... 🤷‍♂️

best to ask at your local immigration office

Firstly, you don't get a visa on arrival, we currently get a 30 day visa waver which may turn into 60 any time soon. It is still unclear if this can be extended, but I suspect it will.

You can get a 60 day tourist visa beforehand for 30 quid which can be extended to 90 if needed.

When you do an extension, you usually have to prove where you are staying.  That can simply be a print out of your hotel reservation. The hotels will register you online within 24 hours of check in anyway.

Immigration requirements can differ from place to place unfortunately.

If you happen to be back at your house for the extension, I would register that fact at immigration just to stop the possibility of a fine.

Never once filled out a TM 30 never once been asked for one I was told by a trusted Visa agent to avoid them at all costs when you can because once you're in their system as having filled one out you're always going to be in their system. Better to avoid if possible

Yes

With Jomtien immigration this is not required, only when you enter TH with a new passport or a new visa/visa waver. When leaving the country I do a new TM30 anyway just in case they changed the rules. Doing it online takes 5 minutes only (to register and to understand how to do it takes a bit longer).

If you're here with permission to stay long-term, like annual visa extensions based on retirement, and you keep the same permanent address, then you only need to file a TM30 once and keep the slip stapled in your passport. You can travel around Thailand as much as you want with no need to file a TM30 on returning home, and leave the country altogether for a period as long as you come back using a re-entry permit. This has been well covered over the last year in the Visa section on AN, and it's my experience too. Last year I went to the UK for 6 weeks, changed to a new passport when I got back here, got a residence certificate to buy a new car, and did my retirement extension, all using the old TM30, with no trouble at all. I wasn't 100% certain so I checked with a local agent beforehand and he confirmed it. The problems people get with a new TM30 being demanded every time they visit Immigration seem to be related to being on short-stay visas, or not having a fixed address.

Yes so I've been told but I have never filed or ever been asked to file the first one ever

Been a long while coming.

Originally it was to start on June the 1st, but it didn't.

Then due to start yesterday, so it's actually happened.

It was unclear what extension was going to be allowed,  if any.

Have you a link to where it officially says such mate please?

EDIT - Just found it.

Thailand will grant visa exemption for nationals of 93 countries and territories, up from 57 countries previously. Visitors under this scheme will be allowed to stay for tourism purposes and short-term business engagements for a period not exceeding 60 days, which can be extended at the Immigration Office for another period not exceeding 30 days.
