KWA
Even earlier than last year, but Robin Hood lead the way again with a 500 baht increase to 4,499 THB. I'm sure I read they sold out both sittings last year. 3

Popular Post Jambo
My advice to anyone considering a Christmas Dinner in Pattaya is only to chose a restaurant that is generally very popular and therefore used to dealing with a full house. I can recall a couple of times when the service aspect of the Christmas Dinner was not far short of a disaster. By that, and as an example, I can recall some of our party waiting for a starter when others were being served their main course. As for the Robin Hood. I stopped going there when the Sunday roast lunch (not Christmas) included roast spuds better described as weapons of mass destruction! One year we had a table for 14 and some were finishing their main course before others got their starter. It wasn't too much of a problem for us as we were all on a big piss up. LOL The following year we tried a different place and it was exactly the same! 2

Far cheaper and you can choose the ingredients. 1 1

But if Robin Hood sold out last year at 3,999 baht, then increasing prices is the right thing to do this year. I am a bit surprised there's that much demand for Christmas dinner at that price level. Many hotels offer impressive Christmas buffets at half or one-third that price. In 2023, a lot of farang-oriented restaurants had Christmas dinner around 1,000 baht. 1 2

Surprisingly large numbers of guys out here won't eat Thai food it doesn't surprise it will sell out. That said, not for me either 😀 1 1

Gone are the days of me buying lamb at Villa 33/1 at 4am to drive to Surin !! Siamburis does that for me now and a damned sight cheaper too !! But on a serious note if I may.. I once had a conversation with a previous Robin Hood Manager regarding the choice of wines (It was Mont Clair Red or White at the time) and its proximity to Wine Connection ... The Sportsman does a good draught Mar Y Sol so if I was going to have a Xmas Dinner that is where I would be heading .. (Notice how I brought it back on track to Xmas Dinners .. Good Boy eh!!) 1 1 1

I know you enjoy stuffing a turkey or grain fed chicken or even a goddamn wood pigeon or quail ..... but always wondered for you American lads after Thanksgiving Pocahontas and all that shite doesn't it spoil December 25th a bit ??? Robin Hood not been in years .... we went for Sunday buffet last time with you and maybe Danny was it ??? ..... pork, chicken, beef all tasted the same tough and chewy under hot lamps. Sportsman is very decent value but I find it a bit depressing ...old man's moaning English pub bit like the Queen Vic. S'pose if you're Jewish etc it's Chanukah but ....... last five or six years Christmas dinner up Korat way outside .... five or six spit roast chickens etc really lovely....... when the Pretty Bitch hears spit roast chicken his juices start flowing .... I'm sure Nick Dean will be wanking himself silly over the very thought of it, but that is obscenely expensive for what is basically a fancy Sunday Roast. 3 1
Popular Post thegrogmonster
I'll be preparing my own Xmas dinner at the holiday shack again this year. Turducken, roast pork, roast chicken, ham etc. I'll try and keep a record of what it costs. I normally have a least a weeks leftovers from it. I'm thinking about 2,500 baht all up should cover it. My sweet Mum always makes me a Xmas trifle. Edited August 31 by thegrogmonster 6 1
forcebwithu
I learned some years back how risky it is to plan a sit down dinner here. We arranged with a well known pub/restaurant on the darkside for an Xmas dinner for about 60 hashers. What a fcking clstr fck it was. Plates for our group were brought out at the rate of about four plates every 10 - 15 minutes. My guess is they only had the capacity to cook/heat up four servings at a time. At one point I suggested we order pizza delivered as it would arrive faster than our Xmas dinner. I'm inpatient by nature so after 30 minutes I pulled the plug and left. Heard later the last plates were served about 1.5 hours after the first plate was brought out. Buffets are definitely the way to go here. 2

That's a shame, I think a lot of bar owners who do food just see the $$$ signs and think they can handle a big crowd, and probably think it's a good time to make a few baht by increasing the prices at the same time. If I were going to go for an Xmas dinner, it would have to be the Hilton, a venue which pouts on buffets every single week and therefore knows how to cater for large numbers. If it were on a lesser , cheaper scale then as @Derek Dangleberries said, Sportsman or somewhere like that, but only after I've done my homework. Bottom line, Our xmas dinner is often just a roast chicken with a few extra additions on the side. I'm also acutely aware this year might well be the last Xmas dinner I get to have with my Dad, which encourages me to make it the best one I can. 1 2

ChiFlyer
I do not go out in Thailand for any of the main Western Holidays (Xmas, NY, American Thanksgiving, Valentine's Day). Everything is horribly over priced. The food not that good. Crowd sizes and reservations are a pain. I also do not like buffets. The food tends to be bland and dried out. Fortunately for me, I am a decent enough home cook. I better enjoy a quiet night at home with the Mrs and possibly another couple. Last year's Xmas dinner turned out well and I am likely to run the same menu again this year.
Popular Post Horizondave
I only once did Christmas dinner in Pattaya and it was at Shenanigans (now Robin Hood). It was about 1500 baht a person (a few years back). It wasn't really good value as my wife at the time didn't eat much, probably about 300 baht's worth of food. It also came with Christmas pudding that was about an inch square portion with a little custard in a wine glass, it was pathetic. Ok, it is nice to be with friends (some of my mates wouldn't eat at home) but for me it was overpriced and the quantity in the portions was poor. The deal came with a glass of wine or small beer, not enough to get you kissing under the mistletoe. Best Christmas meals ever were those I cooked at home, either with immediate family or with a bunch of friends. If you are smart you can feed an army of mates for about the same price as the Robin Hood deal, and you will get cheese and biscuits and a good port thrown in. Of course, having a house where you can relax, maybe around the pool is a good option but maybe not if solo and living in a small condo. Think there will be better and cheaper options than Robin Hood. 2 1
