and had to sleep under the sky in the jungle and woke up next morning with a dead sloth in my arms.

That dead sloth was your duplicate clone from The Invasion of the Body Snatchers mate ... I think it gave up trying to act as bland and uninteresting as you!!

I'd rather sleep in a river basin than a cheap hotel (for more than one night).

Pattaya is probably the best when it comes to finding decent cheap hotels (when they'r not booked up and crammed with loud, ignorant cnuts. *** Especially lately.... The primariy element is very loud and "late night".

Moderate choices are very good also. But during "holiday season" book well in advance. Otherwisw you end up with God knows what. For one night in a cheap place I'd take a nice ST hotel like Viva. Very low key and quiet. Rotate the ladeies in and out. Check out at 12 noon, or pay then extra for more frolicing.

Back in the day I always stayed in cheap places, had a place in Pattaya once for 150b a night(& it had AC).

That was when the room was for sleeping & shagging in & the rest of the time I was out on the piss.Nowadays I need to wake up in a place where I'm comfortable to spend most of the day there.

Some like to save money on Hotels, that's they're prerogative.

The issue is with Pattaya is that the cheaper end of the hotel wedge is indeed occupied and frequented by Indians, and if you need to check, just look at the names on the reviews to give an indication. not foolproof, but a bit of a pointer.

Now, my racism aside, I'm sure that generalising a whole subcontinent of tourists is poor form, but I'm going to generalise a whole subcontinent of tourists. When I see polyester shirts stretched around a fat belly, dirty grey trousers and brown sandals I tend to conjour up a fairly accurate picture of what the bloke and his mates are going to be like as hotel guests.

Same with large Chinese Tour groups. I think the vlogger bigfatbesty had an issue in one Hotel on Xzyte during high season when coachloads of Chinese were in and out all hours of the day.

That kind of thing would take away the novelty of paying 500 baht for a room, especially when that room is less than 25 SqM.

Each to their own though. When I'm on holiday I want to relax in comfort, after I retire things will be different I expect and I'll be sitting on the other side of the fence.

FWIW I fix my hotel low season budget between THB1400 and 1800 per night without breakfast (which is a rip off at some venues) For that I want a pool, Gym, poolside service, good A/C , good sized room, decent Staff and security (I know this is a hit and miss affair though, so caveat emptor) and a decent location.

I didn't mind cheaper venues when I was younger but those days are long behind me now - I don't mind spending more for a nice room now because I agree with coxyhog  that nowadays I tend to spend more time in my room than I used to.

Sometimes it irks me that I am paying for swimming pools and gyms that I will never use but if that is what it takes to book a nice room then there isn't anything I can do about it.

I once thought I'd save a bit on money on a month low season stay, and booked into a guest house on buckhou that was publicised heavy on the forums, with rave reviews. Arrived, and was in a dark and dingy room at the back. The window looked at a brick wall, 6 feet away. The aircon made a noise like a football rattle. The bed had more sags than Nora Batty's stocking, and more broken springs than a 100 year old trampoline. The walls were once white, but now grey with water streaks dripping down. 4th floor, with no lift. Took a girl I knew from Paris agogo, who was as horrified as me. We legged it across the street to Areca and booked in there for the night. The next day I extended that night to the month. Fortunately I'd only paid for 3 nights at the previous place, but by god did I get some stroppy emails from the owner, who, fortunately I hadn't met.

Ironically, Areca was only 170b a night more than this top notch guest house.

Lesson learnt.

We used to stay in the Areca a lot, great location & good rooms but then I started renting condo's & much prefer that now.

Areca was my go to, until I found Pattaya Bay Resort, then when that was sold I followed many of the staff to Metropole.

As my stays are now several months I go for a condo too

Pbr was the first hotel I ever stayed in when first time in Thailand and pattaya, always remember that day,as was pissin down rain when arriving in a taxi.

Stayed at a cheapo place up the soi from Tim's Hotel a few times, its was alright even tho bit run down ,and old Tvs,just shoved on music channel.

Was all about location vack then and being 1 minute walk from 2nd road ,the mall, and numerous bars around that area was more important than general comfort.

Pah!

Before they doubled the rent, my place was 500Baht a month ground rent and aggregated build cost of 1,500 Baht a Month = less than 70 Baht a night !

Up until I left last Xmas, it was 85 Baht a night...

Those that visited thought it was plush ........ otherwise I'd let the dogs bite them of course !!

When I go to HH for two months next year I have secured a very nice condo. Cost = about 700 baht/night, living in quiet comfort and great location.

I am judging by all the responses here, this is pretty much a cheap Pattaya hotel thread.

Let me throw my hat in the ring here then.

@richy65 I am with you on this one, 3k per night, gets me everything I need in Bkk or Patts.

The Arbour residence, 3rd road in Pattaya is good, really good in my opinion. This is what i got for 3k in April 2023..wifey's b-day. Breakfast included, great views of Pattaya, nice rooftop pool and no idiots there at all.

In the past I used the Diamond Beach hotel a lot, but the last time is over 20 years ago.

Blimey, that was the first hotel I stayed in when visiting Pattaya in the late 80's. Did a promo if you stayed over 3 days, either a free dinner every night or a free choice of a girl from behind the glass window in the massage parlour downstairs, I took the massage.

No disrespect, although Mike knows this already.... He has provided some top shelf wank material over the years.
