fygjam
British tourist, 29, allegedly beats Australian friend, 58, to death in Thailand A British tourist, 29, has been accused of allegedly beating his Australian friend, 58, to death in a street brawl in Thailand. An Australian man has died after a street brawl in Thailand. The 58-year-old tourist had been drinking with a friend, a British man, when they became embroiled in a drunken row outside their hotel in Pattaya. Police say the British man, 29, punched the Aussie and he fell, hitting his head on the pavement in the altercation which took place on September 27. Paramedics were called to the street at around 4.30am and found the Australian man did not have a pulse. He was taken to Pattaya Memorial Hospital but he could not be saved. Police Major Tanongsak Inphadung of the Pattaya City Police Station said the Australian’s cause of death was yet to be determined. “The suspect still denies the charges, but he cannot contest us because we have complete evidence,” Mr Inphadung said. “We have security camera footage from the restaurant and four witnesses who drank together with them. They were all Thais. “Tomorrow, we will request the court to detain him at Pattaya Remand Prison. “He refused to say anything, even though we had an interpreter, and he will get a lawyer to defend the lawsuit. “The suspect was drunk at the time. We need to wait for the autopsy results to see if the deceased was also drunk, but he was seen drinking for hours before the incident. They were tenants on the same floor.” It is not clear what caused the street fight. Pattaya has garnered a reputation for sex tourism and sleaze in recent years and has also become a choice destination of criminals on the run. It used to be a respectable fishing village but became popular with American soldiers in the 1960s who enjoyed “rest and relaxation” there amid a boom in the town’s sex trade. To this day there are still many bars and clubs advertising the services of sex workers. https://www.news.com.au/travel/travel-updates/incidents/british-tourist-allegedly-beats-australian-friend-to-death-in-thailand/news-story/a6e1f636089173f44186ac45fe2c8e46

fygjam
Drunk Aussie bashed by Thai cops at airport Shocking footage has emerged of a drunken Australian man being wrestled to the ground of a Thai airport by armed police. Witnesses to a shocking incident at a Thai airport say an Australian man became so unruly he needed to be restained by multiple police officers. The shocking incident allegedly occurred at the populat holiday destination of Phuket on September 22 when an Australian man was stopped from ordering more drinks at an airport bar. Footage from the clash with police shows him resisting arrest while a number of officers climb on top of him — one appears to be hitting him with a baton. A waitress working at the airport bar claimed the man was already “very drunk” and denied him any more drinks. Shocked onlookers said the man, who was wearing shorts and a T-shirt, then stumbled out of the bar and began trying to fight other passengers waiting for their flights. Six armed police arrived and tried to calm down the tourist but he allegedly became even more angry. A fellow Australian who filmed the incident and shared it with Viral Press said the man appeared to be “extremely drunk”. “I was really disappointed to see Australians or anyone for that matter behave in this way,” the witness said. “He was extremely drunk at the bar, got cut off, and then proceeded to fight anyone who so much as looked at him. “The Thai airport security couldn’t restrain him. Unfortunately, I don’t think anyone in the history of being told to calm down has ever calmed down.” The witness said the man was eventually restrained and held in the bathroom corridor. “When he was on the bench in handcuffs, he would start on anyone who made eye contact. I said to him ‘you’re a flop, and an embarrassment’. He didn’t like that. “Hopefully, he spent a night in a Thai prison as a wake up call.” Airport staff said the tourist had been held in a cell at the airport while he sobered up. He missed his flight and was forced to rebook another.A spokesman for the Phuket International Airport said the situation had been resolved. “The holidaymaker in the video was drunk and aggressive. Police captured him at Gate 11,” the spokesman explained. “He was detained until he was sober and then the situation was resolved. I can’t give details of what happened between him and the police”. https://www.news.com.au/travel/travel-updates/incidents/drunk-aussie-bashed-by-thai-cops-at-airport/news-story/904b52e5e2d49802b8e6459c130a57cd

Glasseye
Seems to be becomming a more regular occurrence in "Zoo Town". Typical outcome.... One dead, and one in jail. Cheap shitty guest house + low life drinking buddy + massive consumption of alcohol = A holiday you will never forget (unless you are the dead one).

Butch
Sad state of affairs, and it's no wonder that despite people concerned being from different countries, they'll probably all be labelled as "useless farang" by the Thais and for good reason, British, Aussies, Yanks, French or German, it matters not. @Glasseye hit the nail on the head. Add in to that an assumption that because they're in a different Country that they consider "poor" because everything is cheaper, they can do what they like. I wonder if we ask most working Thais what they truly think of farang in Pattaya, I don't expect the answer would be very favourable. 2

Hm, I have an older female Thai friend (45 yo) whom works in a popular hotel in Pattaya. I shall not repeat everything she said, but she dislike Aussies very much. She cannot understand why Farangs come to Thailand and look down on, especially, women. The most guests in her hotel are Aussies (as you already guess it), German, some HK fellas and French ... But I only hear her complain about the Aussies being rude and drunk, asking stupid questions 😂 And me? She thinks I am too nice. But that's why she likes me ... 🤗 3

Same with Brits in Spain, Greece etc. 1 1

I understand fully why you mentioned earlier about going to places and not seeing farangs, and it makes sense.
