frankypanky73
Is it going to work in Thailand? Maybe in Bangkok, Pattaya or other bigger cities. I doubt that the average Khon Kaen inhabitant will walk around cashless

fforest
A cashless world would give total control over every person on earth... The bad news is....The whole cashless thing has been in the works for many a decade now....And you can bet your last cashless dollar the march to a cashless world will continue.... The good news is.....For the cashless world to successful it must be introduced slowly and methodically......Every aspect of implementation must be thoroughly tested and retested to make sure it all works........Sure they maybe working non stop to create a cashless world.......But still this takes quite a bit of time for worldwide implementation.... So there is a fairly good chance us older guys will not live to see a fully cashless world....... Edited October 6 by fforest 1
SteveBC
Walk round most any shopping mall in Thailand, including in Khon Kaen, and you see shops with signs outside saying "cash free zone". Most are devoid of customers ......... 1

You're forgetting us "plan for living to 100" guys. There are many of us including at least 2 on this forum. You have to plan your pension, lifestyle, healthcare provisions and yes IT skills updating for the long haul. Don't be left behind, living an active, meaningful life to 100 is within the grasp of our generation.
Lantern
A cashless world I do not want to see. Imagine no more cash to kids for doing odd jobs. No more cash in grandkids birthday/Christmas cards. Count me out.

Hey I hope you live a very long life I really do but as of today less than 1% of people make it to 100....And for men its way under 1%...
karon steve
How would tourists fare in Thailand? Most bring and use cash to avoid the bank charges for international card use as well as the lower exchange rate.

I can only go back to my well worn statement. People living to 100 today were born in 1924 - very different times they lived through for the first 20 years of life. I don't know what everyone else does but i always slot 100 in when working out my financial planning till death. What number do you use? richy65
I always use cash in Thailand apart from a credit card to pay the hotel. At home in England I prefer cash when going drinking etc as I like the privacy of it. Cashless is all well and good and it will happen one day then governments will be able to track everything and control spending on things like flying.
forcebwithu
I was watching this guy's video on the relief efforts to get food and supplies to those affected by hurricane Helene and he made a comment that highlights why we'll probably never see a totally cashless society. How do you pay for goods when the electricity and computer systems are down. Another take away from watching the video is I'm heartened to see how the community and those outside the affected areas are coming together to help. And if you're into mtn biking, his Berm Peak channel is pretty good.
galenkia
I use Apple Pay for everything these days in the UK. Just easier and more secure than using cash or cards. 1

fforest
If anyone thinks they are planning to stop with just payments with smart phones, think again......The smart phones are just the in between step before the microchip. implants.... The implants will be will be advertised 24/7/365 nonstop on how safe and secure they are....No theft, no scammers, no lost phones , no lost pins or passwords....bla bla bla.....It will be the most balls to the wall advertising campaign in the history of the world.... And people will be lining up to get the implant .....Millions and billions of them..... Any one without a implant will slowly be left out of society.... In the end the implant thing will fail......Because mankind was not created to be slaves living on a slave planet.... boydeste
We are slowly moving more and more to a cashless society with each generation and advancement in Technology. Nearly all of the youngsters now spending money in the pubs are scanning with their phones or watches. Most of my mates are doing the same and if not, they scan a card, as I mostly do. Even the local kebab shop who would only take cash have obtained a machine because they were loosing so much custom from the youngsters that just don't carry cash anymore. It really isn't too far fetched to think in 100 years time we could all be chipped with an implant to do the same methinks.
boydeste
Just to add, I am seeing more and more companies going cashless themselves. Last year traveling out of Phuket airport, my beloved Burger King had turned cashless. Almost caught me out, but I had a credit card I could use. My local Domino's pizza is cashless. forcebwithu
Correct me if I'm wrong, but to process a transaction there needs to be a communication line between the POS and a financial server to verify the transaction. That being the case, they'll need to come up with a way to continue to process transactions for the inevitable times the communication lines are down. 1 1
richy65
I was in my local dry cleaners last week and the internet was down so they couldn’t take card payments, total chaos! I used cash and was in and out in no time 2 1

Didn't take long to find an article about the issue and possible solutions. Blockchain technology is one that popped to the top of my head as a possible solution. Cashless Society & Internet / Payment Outages and Solutions Decentralised Systems: Blockchain technology offers a potential alternative to traditional banking systems, allowing for peer-to-peer transactions without the need for a centralised intermediary. While still reliant on technology, these systems can operate independently of traditional internet infrastructure.
