Based a logical thinking and past history in SE Asia....I would agree it will never happen.....But looking where the powers that be want things to go as in a one world order without countries...I say it will happen in time... It must happen......And the travel part is only the first step...

I think it will happen as it is not unique to SE Asia, it is a copycat to a system already in use and we know how Asia has copied many ideas over the years.

It just needs to go beyond the talking phase; the problem will be dealing with the idiosyncrasies of each nations need for security and expected revenue capture. It is also about increasing tourism and not everyone's needs, expectancies, are the same.

The Schengen area visa is a well planned out scheme. If you think open borders without controls like in the Schengen will happen in SE Asia sorry I don’t think it will ever happen 

Don't say never, the EU has a couple of decades of an advantage compared to ASEAN, which is the closest comparable group. Besides that, Europe is a bit more culturally homogenic than SE Asia. Taking that into account, I doubt it will happen within the next about 50 years, but sometime between 50 and 100 years it might be possible.
