Car 134 mph, flat out.     Bike 166 mph, shut off as was running out of road.

You've beaten me on the car but I had 175mph on the speedo on my Honda Fireblade going down the A5 from Hinckley to Lutterworth early on a Sunday morning many many years ago. It still had plenty to give too but there was an island coming up.

Galenkia to the thread please.

A boring 110 ish mph in subaru impreza.

Few years ago driving in Switzerland and Germany I had the chance to go really fast but had a run o the mill hired car, all these merc and BMW s were flying past me.

140mph in an XR3i up the A1, north of Peterborough. It was a dual carriageway. Remember it was a clear stretch but saw a car about half a mile away pulling out into the fast lane, I had to slow down pretty sharpish.

It was a crazy thing to do and I have never repeated that level of speed. I was home from Brunei and it was a hire car. It was 1987.

Fastest I have done since then is 110 mph on the A470 in a BMW 3 series driving south of Merthyr Tydfil. That would have been about 2000

Now, I never go above 65 - 70 mph, even on a motorway (of course that is the speed limit, I am getting old and smarter)

I had a Yamaha R1 that I took up to 150mph one day, and still had plenty of throttle left but that was enough for me. Cars I'm not sure about, I don't think I have driven much more than 100-110mph in cars I have personally owned although I have been up to 135mph in somebody else's.

Back in the 90s Porsche had a fly in/drive away program where you could test out your 911 or whatever on the autobahns for a day and then they would help you ship it back to wherever you wanted.

I was feeling pretty Fittapaldi cruising along in the fast lane about 200 KPM when I had these flashing lights behind me ... pulled into the slower lane and got passed by a VW GTI.

My top speed was 122.4 mph (197 km/h) when I had the chance to open up on the German A2 on the way to Berlin. And that speed was on the GPS, not on the tacho which reached 205 km/h (127.3 mph). I felt the car had plenty of reserve, but I knew I was at the limit of my capabilities as driver, especially with my wife and two sons in the car.

In the early 90s I had a Renault 5 gt turbo. I had an early morning work do one Sunday, where if I got there before 8.30, I got breakfast.

I left home late, and was pushing the national speed limit on the first half of the journey. Half way, there was a roundabout...

I remember flooring it as I came out of that roundabout, just as whatever was on the stereo reached its climax, and remember thinking the engine was revving a lot so I'd better change into 5th...

Except I was in 5th. A glance at the speedo said 120 and it was still accellerating...

I eased off, but made it in time for breakfast.

Cars around 110 to 120mph, never been a confident driver at high speeds.

Bikes are a different story. Most I had was 180 on my ZX-7R, but that was the old analogue speedometer so around 165 real speed.

Been looking at bikes for sale this weekend and have seen a really nice KTM 790 Duke for sale at the dealership I bought my previous Z800 from. 2018 model with just over 7700 miles, and only £4895.

Will call them tomorrow.

The acceleration on those things were unreal. I took my mates out for a spin and was struggling to stop it tramping when pushed hard through the gears.

I have been over 140 mph once in my 5 series 3 litre BMW, but at that speed things are coming at you way too quickly to be totally safe.

These days I rarely go above 90 mph, although I was up to 92 in my van yesterday trying to clear a row of traffic on the motorway that kept speeding up every time I pulled out to pass them at 81 mph on cruise control.

I really don't understand these fucking brain dead idiots.

140mph mid 90s on the last 4 miles bit of motorway home late at night no one around.

Nowadays I don't tend to go about 90mph or even 70 most times .

Mostly always stick to the speed limits now ..

Around 120mph in a Saab turbo many years ago, never rode a motorbike. Always keep to the speed limits these days, too many speed traps around plus I'm a bit more sensible now.

Same with me, really calmed down these last few years, but the urge is always there, so I have those mad moments. I know when I buy another bike I’ll rag it.😀

The speed limit on highways in Singapore is 90km/h. It seems fast, only just realised it's only 55mph. You get used to it.

Top speed is 40 mph where I live , although there are a lot of 30 and 20 mph zones ... 555

I've constantly driven at high speeds on the M3 from Southampton to London but always in the early hours when traffic was virtually non existant. The highest speed was 155mph in my BMW M3 Evo and that was REAL cos thats what BMW stated the car would do and it was limited unfortunatley lol

I've also driven my Ferrari 348TB and TVR Chimera 500 up the M3 many times at very high speeds but ya never know how accurate the speedo was.

I'm a deffo speed freak lol

I hit 140 one time on the autobahn in Germany in my GF's Audi, but only for a few minutes.

May I recommend you add some indication which speed units you are using? As it now stands, I'd call you a slow poke as I am used to km/h unless otherwise specified.

Given the poster is American, I think it would be safe to assume he is talking mph...

Given that everybody else had the politeness to be specific, I was already assuming American.

It's some kind of ego thing.

Everyone you encounter on the road has a different mind set. So it is difficult to anticipate what they may (or may not do).

I would often go to "hot calls" with no lights or sirens (occassionally using them to blast through an intersection), because it would freak out people less and I believe much safer.
