ChiFlyer
This is my favorite Thai Holiday. The Mrs and I are planning on enjoying a Thai Seaside dinner in the Na Jomtien area, weather permitting. 3

ChiFlyer
The rain finally let up, so we went to Preecha's Seafood in Na Jomtien. Not my favorite place. I think the food at Mum Aroi over by Buddha Mountain is much better, but for Loy Krathong it seemed like we should have an Ocean view. And into the night. 5

All I can say is thank f**k it's only once a year....it was like a big fair but with the usual competing sound systems making it very loud,& very crowded.Anyway we eventually got our floats out to sea off the pier near the fish market with the help of a young lad who was in the water. I thought at one stage that we'd have to walk back, baht buses kept ignoring us,even empty ones but one eventually stopped but it took over an hour to get back to Soi 13 on beach road. Didn't fancy eating up there after my last experience. 1

Didn't fancy eating up there after my last experience. Yeah, nothing like insane head banging music and an almost drowning event to put a damper on things. Not to mention dipshits shooting fireworks all over the place. Personally I can't handle anymore. I had a couple of beers and some good laughs with my security guard buddy. Then locked myself in the house with the curtains drawn. Proceeded to get shitfaced, then back to bed for another 10 hours of undisturbed glorious sleep. You mentioned "your last experience up there".... Help me out. I forgot, what happend ? Did you get the screaming geebies ? lol

Toy Boy
I haven't done Loy Krathong in years, the killjoy cops removed most of the fun for us farangs when they banned fireworks and the floating lanterns, and I just found it really boring after that. The GF still wants to do it, though, so I relented yesterday and we went to do an early loy on Jomtien Beach. Took a taxi down to Hemingways and had a few drinks in the beer garden then, once the sun had gone down, we went to the beach. This was not long after 6:00, so very early, and there were lantern vendors in abundance. We bought one and lit it up, then the GF loyed her krathong and then, to show my contempt for the Pattaya City cops, I bought another khom loy and lit it up. We sat down for half an hour to take in the scene and enjoy a drink, and by the time we left the cops had appeared and were even stopping people taking their own lanterns onto the beach. We had a table booked in the library at Hemingways for 7:30 and enjoyed a good meal and yet more drinks. A very relaxed and pleasant evening all in all, and given the absence of cops at the start, beginning early on is a good idea. ChiFlyer
The floating kites actually are dangerous. They have been known to crash into someone's residence and start the place on fire. This is the reason they have been banned in many locales. As of a few years ago Na Jomtien still permitted them. Not sure if this is still true. The borderlines between Jomtien and Na Jomtien are drawn a little funny. There is a strip of Na Jomtien that extends to Chiyapruek on Jomtien Beach Road. I read that this was done as part of some under the table zoning game. Back when we were living in Jomtien, the Mrs, myself, and a few friends would go over to this section of Na Jomtien for Loy Krathong. There were some kites, but we did not use them ourselves. Also things were more quiet and laid back over there. Edited November 16 by ChiFlyer

Have have seen too many injuries over the years, including the French guy who blew his face off on Soi 13/2 a few years back. They also drive dogs bonkers. I want nothing to do with any of them.
