Walking Street early this morning

I can't remember the last time I have walked through there.

I'm not sure which would be more depressing.... walking down there during the day and seeing all of the rot, or at night watching what I am sure must be a non-stop clown parade.

I don't get down here much anymore there's really no reason and now that Atlantis is gone even less of a reason. Walking street is no longer as expat friendly as it once was in my opinion anyway. Lots of places still for sale and empty that new Go-Go that was supposed to be opening across from milk and lapub idolls is empty and dirty inside no way they're going to get it open for the majority of this high season.

Quite a few of these clubs are new since I was last down here which tells you how long it's been I'm sure

Heck Larry I live about 7-8-9 ?  Blocks from Walking Street and I hardly ever go there....You live way out in the Outback by Big C extra so at least you have a excuse....lol

Hey I got nothing against Indians, but the Indian invasion has sure changed the flavor of Walking Street...

Plus the pointless and forced neon sign removal that 99.9% of people were against also helped to kill or at least dampen that old exciting Walking Street Buzz....

Not that it matters much to us since I've been domesticated, but if I was a young guy again I don't think it would attract me now the same way it did all those years ago.

I was 27 when I first went down there in 1981....If I was that young today I probably wouldn't entertain coming to Thailand let alone WS.

I go there a few times a year with the GF to eat, usually either at the New York Diner by Insomnia or at Nang Nual seafood. That's pretty good since it relocated to the seaview place, BTW. Afterwards, we stroll along and maybe take a few drinks and do some people watching somewhere like P72. As long as the Chinese walkers and flag wavers aren't too abundant, I still quite enjoy the atmosphere, though it's changed enormously since I came here to live 20 years ago. Where once you were spoilt for choice for Western-style Gogo Bars on the strip, now it's more Indian dance joints and Russian places. Not that it matters much to us since I've been domesticated, but if I was a young guy again I don't think it would attract me now the same way it did all those years ago.

I had a plate of fries to soak up the booze in the restaurant that is connected to Insomnia one night (many years ago).

I had one good night in Insomia over the years. Every other time it was too jammed with people (especially whacked out roid freaks). Difficult to enjoy yourself in a place that is nuts to butts.

@Yesitisdakid when did Anlantis close ?

I did prefer it before when it played rock music

I don't think it did close if I said that it was a mistake it was sold I don't know if they are continuing on as they were but Viking isn't there anymore and he's the one that maintained it Old School.

I think it closed, and was amalgamated into the adjoining gogo (Palace).

Ibar is at best, a sausage fest. Expensive drinks, and an unfavourable ratio of girls to guys means it's more by luck than judgement if someone manages to score there.

Nightclubs in Pattaya have evolved from a freelancer / off duty GGG / BG pick up option to actual nightclubs where people go to get the nightclub experience as they would in the West, which is strangely ironic and somewhat of a turnaround.

I've not been to an Indian venue, but on my next trip I may well visit one with a Thai female in tow just to see the score. As with any new experience, I always prefer to have a local friend with me to cover the bases. As a single male farang we're ripe for the picking, bring a Thai with you and the odds become very much more stacked in your favour.

My best nightclub experiences have been Ibar when it was first open, upstairs and opposite Marine 2 in the Arab quarter, Marine Bar, Hollywood when it was in its original location and Xzyte in its original location and also Disco Duck* but purely for the sound system.

* free case of virtual San Miguel, free virtual barfine and 5 free virtual L/T with all the showgirls of Skyfall a GoGo to anyone who can tell me where the "Disco Duck" was located. Contact @Nightcrawler for payment.

That’s actually how I have felt since my last trip about 10 years ago.

The way it has changed last few trips just put me off.

I agree, Pattaya was NEVER going to change for the better since the halcyon days of the early mid 00's.

Walking Street is a shadow of itself. If I took you Gal, and said the prices are the same today as they were, but everything else has changed to what it is today, it still wouldn't compare.

Even the areas which are holding on to the last vestiges of what Pattaya was are slowly getting eroded. Try as much as I can, when I visit now, trying to find the old magic of the place is impossible. It's all gone, disappeared, it just isn't there anymore.

I think a majority of us need to feel grateful of the times we spent there. Those days will never be repeated, and we enjoyed a time when things simply couldn't get any better.

I'll never forget the first time I met @Nightcrawler, it was in Mistys during an afternoon session and he had a "Jim Bowen" keyring which when you pressed a button, came out with corny Jim Bowen quotes "Ohhh...it's not the speedboat is it?", we were getting pissed at 4pm on 60 baht Carlsbergs surrounded by girls dancing on poles, in a GGB on Pattayaland 2 and life indeed , was good.

Tempus Fugit.

Early 2000’s were brilliant, it was just the best place to be on earth. Great exchange rate, great girls, very little Indians, Russians and Chinese compared to later.

Was a really cheap holiday and girls wanted to stay long time and go and see the country with you.

Really glad to experience the country then compared to my last trips which mostly involved spending time With Secrets forum members as I had become disillusioned with the bar scene.

lol

Yep.... the thrill of the place has dissappeared like a river of piss down a rat hole. The only thing remaining is the stink.

During covid it was livable. You could walk down the road or a soi without bumping into some r*g head, roid freak, or stroller pusher. No buses crammed with nose pickers and limited numbers of motorbikes going the wrong way or down/across the sidewalks.

Now it is bedlam.

Ok so after going to Pattaya the last 2 yeaars in April for wifey's b-day for a week, yeah it has changed, I think we all knew that though. Not that it is a bad thing, but in reality nothing ever stays the same as a general rule. Walking Street still has SOME charm to a certain extent...and is just kind of fun to walk around and observe. How many years has the cigarette trick guy been there? Quite a few. I always enjoyed WS, I always thought too that the restaurants there, like Mike's Seafood and The Lobster Pot were always quite good.

How about some of the old go go's like Angelwitch ( loved the shows there) and always liked Alcatraz and others. Always liked taking some gals to the Stonehouse and watching the lovely bar fines play pool where ever they wanted to play.

And of course, how could we not all like having fun at Secrets back in the day? Who needed "oxygen" after climbing the stairs at 4am in the morning, getting your bar fine back to your room after a "bender" LOL!  Always like Sabai Dee Body Massage up the road a bit too...especially when on that night when you had to check your ego at the door and say to yourself " I no hab any stamina tonite" Ibar/Insomnia...good lord how many 30 baht needle shots I did one time are legendary with a bar fine....cannot believe I am not a diabetic 😩  How about the nightclub called "Zeb" Issan Music for your Issan Bar Fine for the night?

Yes Pattaya and Walking Street have changed....but for those of us back in the day who saw it in the glory years, the memories are always fun to remember.

Few pics for all to remember...

Thanks for sharing the pics and happy memories from "back in the day". Sorry to be so negative.

And yep, I did have many great times there in the past....

Usually walking down B.R. from Soi 13 checking out the sights. Then reaching the beloved turn at the beginning of W.S. for a good sniff of the sewage pit and the grease covered curb (I don't know how many times I slipped on that curb and almost fell in front of a bus. lol).

But, once past the "check point" it was on to the Frog Bar for a couple of Changs and people watching. Back then it was a novelty and somewhat enjoyable. I always got a kick out of watching the young Ruskie couples walking by with one in a stroller and one in tow. I always thought to myself, "gee, I wish I had parents that were that cool when I was a little toddler".

Then after that it was a quick dodge of the foot traffic and a walk up to Dolls for an always fun night. I don't know how much dosh I unloaded in there over time, but it was worth every penny.

After a few good finger licks, a dozen or so brews, some good tunes and a ton of laughs I'd make my way out to 2nd road, Stumble across South Rd. intersection, then get loaded onto a baht bus like a head of cattle. Then within a few moments of the ride with the fresh night air cooling me down I would desperately be looking for the buzzer button above my head.

bzzzzzzzzzz. Then falling out of the back of the thing and somehow crawling down to my room safely and with no worries.

I will always relish those days/nights.

*** similar to good rock music....   Very forutnate to have lived during those times and was able to experience. Aprreciating how good it was, even though what we have now does not come close to comparrison.
