Siam Addict Posted December 25, 2024 Posted December 25, 2024 Hi Guys, I just booked a taxi with Hua Hin Taxis to take me back from Hua Hin to Bangkok and I got this; Attention: Extra surcharges apply during the peak season for each vehicle type: December 20th to January 5th - additional 500 baht surcharge (Please expect longer travel times and plan your departure time accordingly.) January 6th to January 28th - additional 200 baht surcharge 500 baht extra? Normal fare 2000 baht, so this is a 25% surcharge! In all my years traveling through Thailand, including a trip on New years day I have never seen this sort of charge. Anyone else experienced this? I have just booked with another firm for 1800 baht with no extra charges. 3

Wouldn't criticize him just let him know that they're not the only game in town 1 6
Captain_B Posted December 25, 2024 Posted December 25, 2024 Yes and bear in mind all toll roads are free until 2nd Jan
Glasseye Posted December 25, 2024 Posted December 25, 2024 Fcuk me. I always take the big blue bus to/from HH, BKK. Also leave early to beat that insane traffic. I started booking 2 seats so it is very comfortable, much safer and more enjoyable, and hugely cheaper.

The airport bus to Hua Hin has single seats on the left side, I always book the single seat, no need for booking the two on the right. Very comfortable seats as well. I do though, book 2 seats, if taking the airport bus to Pattaya as it is a 2 x 2 configuration. 2

The journey from BKK to HH southbound can be nuts at NY especially with the crane collapse adding to the road works issues. I can understand a surcharge closer to NY going south, but so much choice out there Moved to another firm myself not because of the surcharges but drivers texting while driving. Price isn't the problem for me, being driven safely is. 2 3
Siam Addict Posted December 25, 2024 Author Posted December 25, 2024 Thanks guys, I didn't know about the lack of tolls, so even more profit for the cab firm. I've got two large bags that I don't fancy carting around, so I'll give the bus a miss. I'm still waiting on this new firm to get back to me. I'll call them again tomorrow.

I used the Bell bus as well nice bus great seats but when i tried to book for a couple weeks from now the site said no buses from Pattaya to HH any more a call confirmed it. Need to go Pattaya to airport then Airport to HH kinda a pain in the ass. 1

Something amiss here I think. The main bus station is in Jomtien. You'll maybe need to go down there to buy a ticket (143 baht I think). I would go early to see what you can get and lessen the traffic. If you are going to HH take the bus to Swampy. Then pick up another from Swampy to HH. No matter how you go from Patts to HH or back it's going to be a long day. Funny thing.... I can take an Air Asia flight from my house in CM and be in a hotel in HH in less than 2 hours, door to door. 1

I've done it many times and it's still bookable online, but that's not the issue. The website is showing no buses from the airport to Hua Hin throughout January.

Siam Addict Posted December 26, 2024 Author Posted December 26, 2024 Just got a response from Cheap taxi's asking for an additional 400 baht. It looks like there is a shortage of drivers on this route and the drivers are asking more money. I think I will have to stick with the original choice, but no tip!
