Butch Posted January 17 Posted January 17 I'm sure we've all ended up with some kind of injury / condition from the place at one time or another. Personally, the biggest hazards for me are the uneven surfaces, high kerbs and drain covers that are everywhere apart from Walking Street. I've lost count the times I've stubbed my toe on an elevated paving slab. That's why Crocs are sometimes the best answer!. The second biggest hazard are the colds and sniffles either from the AC units in the hotels, or passed on from people we're in proximity with. Crossing the road is often a bit dicey as well, but often traffic stops or slows for pedestrians, thankfully. 2
galenkia Posted January 17 Posted January 17 I Wore Crocs my last few trips. Keep your feet cool and are sturdy enough to protect your feet. Crossing the road can be pretty hazardous, really have to keep an eye out for bikes weaving between the cars. Got a motorcycle taxi once that was a complete lunatic, thought I’d never make it to LK Metro alive.😀 4
boydeste Posted January 17 Posted January 17 Bikes in general, crossing the road with them tearing up the inside going the wrong way, undertaking etc. Even when walking on the pavement you are not safe from them! 2 4
Nightcrawler Posted January 17 Posted January 17 Crossing Third Road on foot Can take up to 5 minutes to pluck up the courage to make it to the otherside with 2 way traffic bombing down from both directions. Trying to get a cross in one hit is difficult hoping for a gap.in both directions. If a person has any mobility problems it could be suicide. 1 5

Popular Post Stillearly Posted January 17 Popular Post Posted January 17 I've ended up in hospital twice in Pattaya ... first time was in Paradise , fairly early in the evening, went to use the toilet and missed a step that was about an inch or two high .. sliced my ear on the doorframe ... lots of blood ... the owner drove me to the hospital and waited for me , whilst they stitched me up , then brought me back 👍.. my bin was still waiting for me 555 second time was last day of Songkran , just taking pictures down Soi 8 and twisted my knee on a wet drain cover ... took me an hour to limp back to my hotel Tim Boutique .. getting water poured over me all the way ... Tim was sat outside and saw me , she told one of the staff to drive me to the hospital and they waited for me , no charge 👍👍 getting around on crutches for a couple of days before I was due to go home was a complete nightmare ... holes in the pavements , large curbs etc etc and cnuts not looking where they were going and walking into you ... but the biggest hazard are the women and the nightly damage they do to my wallet .. 1 5 9

Tim always looked after me. Sometimes she thought I was too drunk to go home so she would get me a room upstairs and a couple of girls to look after me. My wife didn't appreciate her help though. 11

Very nice it was too. 1

Crossing Third Road is a piece of piss compared to the main road in HuaHin, during the day it's not too bad as there is so much traffic going into the shopping centres it's nearly at a standstill! Between 7 and 10pm the locals use it as a drag strip and race at 60-70km per hour, and as it's dark you don't know if they can see you or not! My driver from the airport was the exception he managed 80-90kpm from Cha Am to the hotel. I know there is a reservation area in the middle but this makes it worse, you survive the first 2-3 lanes only to have to do it again!
Krapow Posted January 17 Posted January 17 Drunken farangs believing their own shit and thinking they really were special forces, or Chinese flash mobs at breakfast buffets. I actively try to avoid both, and either can get you so would up, one minute you're thinking what kind of krapow to have, the next you're threatening to break legs if they don't f**k off outta your personal space! 2

The open bar was called Wombat, the one behind the small swimming pool was called the Outback, but when they completely roofed it in due to complaints from local residents about the music, they renamed it The Billabong. All part of the infamous Shagwell Hotel complex. 1 1 1

A Canadian mate who lives in Nakhon Nowhere in Isaan was down here last week for a few days of R&R, away from his Thai missus. In the evening, he went back to his hotel and failed to notice a pool of clear liquid on the floor of the lift. Sadly, he stepped in it, slipped up and took a bad fall which buggered up his knee. He's 72 and a big guy, a fall like that was never going to be a laughing matter. It ended up so bad that he had to cut his trip here short and get back home ASAP as he'd prefer to be at home if he was going to be laid up for a few weeks, or have an operation. He said afterwards that he thought it was probably coconut massage oil, I guess a visiting massage service had dropped a bottle in the lift and couldn't be arsed to clean t up or let the hotel management know. 3

I have a great Bliss "only happens in Thailand" story to relate. I know I have told it before but maybe on the Secrets forum. Roughly once a month I used to enjoy a lunchtime visit to Bliss on my way back to Secrets from my daily bank run. The girls used to all sit outside the entrance out of the sun and one picks one to join you for a drink inside. On this day I selected one I did not recognise from previous visits. In case you don't know Bliss was a somewhat posh BJ bar. We reached the point when the girl and I were due to move upstairs when the "Manager" came over to me and explained that the girl I selected was brand new and I would be her first customer. Would I mind if one of the other girls went with us upstairs to show the new girl "what was expected" so to speak. Alternatively, I could select another of the girls instead. I would only be charged for one girl of course. Sounded interesting to me, so up the three of us went which resulted in a half hour or so of a hilarious session of "Tag" blow job. Not that the "new girl" needed much, if any, of a demonstration of the actual deed only their procedure for looking after the customer. Both had a generous tip from me and the Manager a thumbs up as I departed. Definitely one of those "only in Thailand" moments. 6 1 1
Glasseye Posted January 18 Posted January 18 Croc a doodle doo..... you guys are whacked. lol Good pair of tightened up "trainers" and eyes on a swivel. The greatest dangers are for sure the fcuksticks coming the wrong way on a motorbike or on the sidewalks. Electric bikes are the worst (can't fcuking hear them). Patts is a nightmare for walking. For sure will do some of us in at some point. After that it's all easy. Encountering an unpleastant yabbaed up Grab driver is never fun. 1

Reminds me of a recent story my mate who runs a hotel in Patts recently shared with me. He gets called to a room. Bloke in there had slipped and cut his head open. The entire room was covered in blood. Had to call in a hazardous specialty team to clean the mess up. 1
