You heard 9/11 was happening?.

The News reported Lady Diana had died?

Queen Elizabeth had passed away?.

1) I'd just arrived at work, we had the newsfeed on in the mess room, people were standing around aghast and some actually thought it was a movie to begin with.

2) Mowing the lawn when my girlfriend at the time called me in to see the News.

3 ) Walking along Soi LK Metro - my Mrs Texted me the news, I told the guy who was walking alongside me (didn't know him) - he was shocked as I was, we both went into Scooters for a condolence beer and remain in contact to this day.

Feel free to add your own.

From your list I only remember where I was when 9/11 happened.

I was on a consulting project at UW-Milwaukee. I had wandered into the Student Union for a coffee and the first thing I noticed was how deathly quiet it was. Everyone was watching in silence the TV monitors scattered around the Union that were broadcasting the replay of the first of the airplanes flying into the World Trade Center north tower. I watched in real time the second airplane hitting the south tower, and then the news reports of the Pentagon getting hit. Then as the towers collapsed the gut wrenching realization that I was witnessing the deaths of many many innocents.

Two other events that I remember where I was.

The assignation of JFK: I was in grade school when the announcement was made over the PA system.

The Space Shuttle Challenger disaster: I was working from home and took time out to watched the live coverage of the reentry and landing of the shuttle.

It was just after launch iirc ... I think I was watching it at home after school

1) I was working in a trading room , televisions on the walls and on our screens , we squared off our positions after the second plane hit

2) I was at a house party, for a friends b'day , happened around 01:00 iirc

3) watching the BBC , rumours all morning, then they put on the black suits and ties ..

Definitely early hours of the morning as I was at a lock-in down my local.

No idea why OP was cutting the grass at that time. 😉

1 - I was working in a car body shop and we heard about 9/11 on the radio. We were just shocked.

2 - I honestly can’t remember.

3 - I was at home.

1 and 3 I was at work and heard on the radio. Princess Diana I had just met a mate to go on a training run and he told me.

1. Was at work when I was told.

2. Just finished shagging with my X.

We put the radio on and got the news.

3. Was packing my van ready for an early start to a fishing trip to France. Heard it on the radio.

I was fitting a kitchen in West London when the first plane hit the WTC, we were listening to a radio and thought it was a small light aircraft.

We started making jokes about how could they not see a building of that size. We calmed down when the news came through about the second aircraft. That is when it hit that this was something more serious than a small accident.

I was asleep when Diana died, I only realised something had happened when the clock radio came on and was just playing somber music. I do recall that my friends wife took it very hard, she cried for weeks and had Elton John's candle in the wind on all day long. She didn't mourn as much when her own mother died!

I don't recall what I was doing when the Queen died, I can vaguely remember all the royals heading to Balmoral.

1.  Working for a Bank in the City of London. We along with the rest of the City were evacuated after the second plane went in.

There were no tubes running, walked with several colleagues from Moorgate to Hyde Park, had a few beers just to get our heads around things.

2.  Think I was heading north on a train and was annoyed that all the football fixtures had been cancelled as a mark of respect. Was looking forward to listening to footie commentary on my Roberts mini radio to break up the long journey.

3. Can't remember.

Ahhh...I was in the UK, but neither of us had put the TV on until around mid day when the news was , well news to me lol.

When the Twin Towers were being attacked I was on a BA flight coming home from Stockholm after a business trip.

The stewardess knew and was just going around talking with passengers. I only knew the severity of the act once I got back to Heathrow, totally shocked.

Didn't think much about it at the time but I realized that I was on a plane same time as those poor souls. But for the grace of God go I.

Just woke up, getting ready to go into work for my 3-11 shift.

Watching the tube with a cup of tea watching CNN as usual. Soon after I turned it on I saw the second plane slam into the tower.

Called Mom who was doing her usual stuff around her kitchen and listening to "car talk" on the FM. She answered the phone....

Me - Have you heard the news ?

Mom - No

Me - You better turn on the t.v.

Mom - O.K. (in the way she did). Both of us understanding in a moment without saying anything that something huge was happeining.

Me - O.K, bye

Mom - O.K., click

You heard 9/11 was happening?.

Was walking from Norwich station to my office in Bank Street

The News reported Lady Diana had died?

In a hotel in Ascot with my now ex-wife and my 2 youngish kids in readiness for going to Thorpe Park for the day. Ex wife in the shower, I turned the tv on in our room and put the news on. To say I was stunned was an understatement.

Queen Elizabeth had passed away?

In Hemingways in Jomtien when I got a WhatsApp from my son, who's in the media, who told me about 30 mins before the news actually broke . . 😪

Space shuttle blowing up

Was in a meeting at the place I worked in Huntsville, Alabama. The Company had been formed 10 years earlier by 8 ex NASA VP's, they were still very close to NASA. One of our secretaries popped her head round the door and just said "the space shuttle has exploded". End of meeting, the whole company (around 500 staff) were told to go home.

I was on my annual golfing holiday with friends, basing ourselves as usual in Bournemouth.

We walked into the golf club's packed Bar after finishing our round, only to find it was so quiet you could have heard the proverbial pin drop.

Everyone was glued to the TV in the corner and it was obvious something momentous had happened. Just what, we had no idea, and it took some time for my brain to catch up with my eyes.

9/11

On the Sunday before, I drove through NY on my way to a job in Massachusetts. I could see the towers from the freeway. On that Tuesday, on our morning coffee break, one of the guys had a pager with a news-ticker feature. It went off and he read the first reports of the plane crashing into the tower. We went back to work thinking it must have been a small private plane, but it wasn’t.

Blew an "O" ring. Just like I did earlier this morning.

Only one I recall was 9/11.

I was in Madrid having just finished overseeing a big skin repair on an Air Europa Express aircraft.I had nothing to do as the local engineers couldn't get the engines started & I needed them to pressurise the cabin for me to do a leak check before I could sign off the repair.

So one of the guys said why don't you go here https://www.esmadrid.com/en/tourist-information/casa-de-campo,he said I'd like it,I did - it was full of hookers, mostly African & mostly with their tits out.I drove around for quite a while.

On the way back to my hotel the missus rang me & said something about a plane flying into a building in the US & I got there just in time to see the second one go in.

& The world changed from then on,especially for anyone in the aviation business.

9/11, I was 25, had just got engaged with my Pinay & was balancing a warehouse job with a return to school. I sleep late, but in Calgary we are 2 hours behind the East, so this day I can be forgiven. I get an angry call from my Dad in Montreal, I’m still groggy & thinking he’s calling in the loan he made me!

Then he hangs up , I’m like “OK no big deal there was a terrorist attack in NYC”…….Yeah, OK….

Had just cut off my cable TV to have less temptations as I studied , but the old trick of sticking the needle into the existing hole in the wall gave me something of a signal . Unreal…..I couldn’t believe this could happen. Actually made sure we both had full tanks in our cars, in case gas went to $10 a gallon , was so much uncertainty in the air

Your bold area is interesting, along with others I also made sure we had an adequate supply of emergency kit, enough for 1 week. In fact, so much so I went on a stores run after work hours to the local Tesco which was open at 0600 and filled 2 trollies of supplies, then separately stored 500 litres of water.

I know that Echelon was working overtime as well, my mate at RAF Menwith Hill was called in along with every other analyst or Lingsi specialist to man the consoles. They thought it was kicking off big time and even the Royals were put on evac alert here in the UK.

9/11

At work in the printing room. Many printers had small tvs at the time due to the boring nature of their work. Then everything stopped when we heard and saw the news on the BBC. Even the boss came out of his office to see what was happening. ( never heard of before).

Lady Diana.

I can't remember if it was a week day or weekend but I can remember it being a warm sunny day. My daughters mum woke me up and told me to watch the TV. Shocked and upset for ages after that. An absolute tragedy.

Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth.

Sat at home in Sweden watching the box ( common theme eh!) almost every channel we're covering the sad passing of our Queen. I was gutted to say the least.

9/11

Lunch time U.K and X GF called me to see if I was home and seen it I was still working , but went home and remained there stunned as everyone was.

Diana

Sunday morning I turned up at some friends house we had all arranged to go to the Lake District for a beer that day , my pal answered the door and told me the news.

One thing I remember more than anything about that my Gran was in a Hospice with cancer a week away from dying and she was in tears watching the news about Diana although she was dying herself.Always remember her saying that it was no accident and blaming the royals.

Queen dying

Can't really remember, but I liked the Queen unlike there rest of them though I will never understand why she bailed Andrew with a few Million before she died.

Hooker cruising on 9/11.... Now that is a story that will not be easily forgotten.

***   Everything changed after that. Fcuking assholes. I will always hate the mother fcukers.

I remember the day after when at work. I pulled into a big parking lot and looked up into the bright clear blue November sky. Not seeing one jet trail as none were flying.

Still pisses me off.
