We use our iphones as hotspots with our smart tv.

I use my smart tv as a display from my computers via HDMI connections. I have been doing so for years with very few incidents. I download movies and TV shows from IPT and prefer to watch them in this manner. Both the TV and the newer of my 2 computers are less than a year old. I keep my maintenance up to date. Maybe that is the problem.

We had a lightening strike near the house two days back. The main HDMI connection stopped working. Had a guy out to the house today and we got the older computer working on a different HDMI connection, but the newer one does not work. OK - some progress.

Tonight the older connection HDMI connection stopped working as well.

The HDMI connection from the tech's laptop worked and like I said we were able to get the connection from my backup computer to work for a while (12 hours). I had tested this connection the previous day and it did not work.

Currently I have two HDMI cables connected to the smart TV and neither works. I get various messages on the TV like "Make sure your computer is turned on". Irritating to say the least.

I guess I am looking for a top flight tech guy to come out to the house, but I am not sure what the root cause is.

The computers and TV are displaying no other problems. Two computers, two different HDMI cables, two different HDMI connections being used on the smart TV and the connections are not being recognized. Actually they are occasionally recognized, but not for long.

The Mrs says she knows a guy with a good tech rep that we can have out to help check things out. We shall see. My personal theory is that the lightening strike damaged something on the TV.

Had a friend who had everything electrical in his house blown out by lightening once. You are probably correct in your assumption. But... those connections can get worn out also.

Used a long HDMI cord for quite a few years. Got sick of it.

Something that you might consider all of the sudden the HDMI ports on my Samsung TV stopped working I figured the TV was just on its way out. I Googled it did a lot of research and found out how to reset the TV so to speak I can't recall exactly how I did it because I've since replaced the TV 5 years ago or so but after doing what I found on YouTube sure enough both HDMI ports were back to working normally might be worth a try to have a look on YouTube maybe under HDMI ports not working or something along those lines

I have been searching Google and found a few things to try without success.

  • I had a tech out to the house and the HDMI Panasonic TV Ports worked with his Dell. I have two Lenovos and neither one works, although they occasionally flash the laptop screen.
  • I currently have two HDMI cables connected to the TV. One is brand new.
  • The tech cleaned all of the HDMI ports (cotton tabs with alcohol) and a light air blower. After that one of the Lenovo HDMI connections worked, but only for about 8 hours.
  • I need younger help with all of this as my 75 year old legs will probably land me on my ass, if I try climbing into some of the areas where the connections are.
  • Might be some kind of config problem on my Lenovos, but why only all of a sudden on both machines. One was powered off when the lightening strike occurred.
  • I am going to try the power reset on the TV that is in your link.
  • After that I will try the factory reset on the TV, if I can find it. 🙂 That will likely revert the TV displays to Pasathai, but I should be able to figure out how to change the language back to English.
  • Could be I need a Panasonic firmware upgrade related to my latest Lenovo Maintenance push. I have read that there are changes occurring with HDR what ever that is.
  • I will also take one of the Lenovos into the computer shop near Tuk-Com (Pattaya2U) just to have them give it a good cleaning and check the HDMI connection for any visible damage.

In the mean time I have setup a small table nearer to the bed to watch TV shows via the laptop during late night snuggle bunny time. 🙂

Well the game plan develops.

If all that fails, ...... Hello Pattaya2U

Meanwhile the furniture rearrangement for snuggle bunny time seems to be working well enough for the short term. We are watching "24" at this TOD and the Mrs seems to like it. I hope I remember to replace the furniture before falling asleep. 🙂

The problem with working with my step-son is he does not speak much English. Google Translate Conversation should solve this, I hope.

They typically put those ports it a fcuked up location and angle, especially if the tv is nailed to a wall.

Add to that the fact that the HDMI cables are rather large and inflexible.... creates stress on the output ports. Also creates stress on the person breaking their backs trying to plug the fucking things in.

Have you tried turning the graphics driver card on and off in the device manager of the offending laptops?

Or seeing if there is an update for them?

Good idea.

A scan showed that there was an update available for a Graphics driver. I downloaded, updated, and restarted. The TV is in the bedroom and the Mrs is drifting off to snooze land, so a full test will have to wait until tomorrow.

So far, the fix does not appear to having damaged anything else.

@john luke I know that you are an admin. I am requesting that the title of this thread has the word "Bluetooth" removed. I think that the tread has evolved into a topic that includes all connections to HDTV from a laptop.

Yes, it is a wall mount and my old legs working in an area like that is not a good idea. Fortunately, Panasonic seems to have positioned most of the connections on the right side of the machine. The one item that is referenced in a "Power Reset" is the power button. I am unsure where that is. The TV is a Panasonic MX430 43". I have read through the specs for it and where the "Power Button" is located is unclear.

But a good bluetooth connection is a option to the dreaded HDMI, which I personally don't think is possible.

Bluetooth is definitely a useful connection , but quality wise, it suffers a tad compared to HDMI, not to mention the extra power drain.

I have a Panasonic, albeit a different model, and where the Panasonic logo is on the front below the screen, if you put your hand underneath and back an inch or so there's a collection of buttons.  Not sure that they all do but there might be a power one there.

Or it could just mean the power button on the remote?

Read through a Google search and the power button is at the bottom of the various connections on the right side of this model. When all else fails read the directions, I guess. 🙂

I do not think the power button on the remote would work as the TV is turned off at this point in the "Power Reset" process.

Unfortunately, I can not see into this area without climbing into the area where the 75 year old legs are a problem.

An old fart learns a few things from some younger guys.

Like I said, I have 2 high end Lenovo laptops and I can not get the HDMI connections working from either one to my Panasonic TV. I am able to make the HDMI TV connection from 2 other non-Lenovo laptops. I did some research on how to do a Panasonic "Power Reset". I wrote up the instructions in Google Translate to get a Thai version.

My wife's son (my stepson I guess) helped out, but we could not locate the "Power Button" on the TV required for this process. I then attempted to do a "Factory Reset". I was guided instead to a Google TV software upgrade. I did this, but it did not solve the problem.

The Mrs called Num Chai for assistance from a support guy. He came out the same day early evening. He was able to get the older Lenovo laptop working through a few Windows 11 config changes . I had been able to do that before, but the HDMI connection did not last more than a few hours last time.

He then pointed out that I had a "Thunderbolt to HDMI" connection available on my newer Lenovo. He helped me order the cable for it on Lazada and it should be here in about two weeks due to customs waits on Chinese products. He said he would return when it arrived and finish the fix. I asked how much I owed him and he said you can pay me when everything works. This is not the USA. 🙂

I had no idea that there was such a thing as a thunderbolt to HDMI cable connection. Also I hate the touch pad mouse, so I turn it off and use the mouse's dick approach. This does not work well on my newer Lenovo PC. My stepson connected his wireless mouse and hey this is better for sure. I will ask him to help me order one tomorrow.

I had a good day listening to younger persons than myself.

CF 🙂

One of the better things about this is that I now see that there is a Thundebolt to HDMI connection on my older Lenovo as well. I should no longer need to transfer laptops between locations changing connections in the process. I plan to make the older machine the video server and use the newer one for my personal accounting. My use of One Drive makes this file sharing possible.

I guess one day at a time before I declare success. 🙂
