I just renewed my 1 year Data plan from AIS today....1800 baht all in... For unlimited data 24/7 for the next 365 days...Which works out to a whopping 150 baht a month.......

And I make most calls now on Whats App, world wide for a grand total of Zero baht....So AIS hardly gets any call money out of me any more..Only enough to keep my number active..

In America all this would be vastly more expensive.....

Now if I could only get my electric bill down to 150 baht a month...lol....That would be the cats meow...

That is a good deal. What code or sim did you use/get for the good deal?

I have a data plan with AIS on a monthly basis, 150 per month. I pay for the 2 holidays a year, and allow the data to lapse while I'm at home. On arrival pay a new 150 and start again,  always same telephone number.

I would be interested in this.

I like AIS, find their connection the best wherever i  am in Thailand. And with the new bank stuff, i want a number that will stay mine for like you, 2 holidays a year ongoing.

Could i get this at one of the booths at Swampy on arrival?

When  I went to the booth, they seemed unaware of the package.  I  waited until in pattaya and went to the AIS counter in Big C Extra.

To maintain the number I top up before going home each top up extends validity by 1 month or with planning,  top up before your last month, 5x30bt , pays for Internet and extends validity by 5 months.

I have a similar sim with dtac, except topping up once give me a years validity. Not sure if this is because I have had the number for 13+ years...

Every month when in country dtac send me a SMS telling me my package has expired,  I check the deals available on line,  top up as necessary, then buy a package for the next month, all from the comfort of my own sofa. When I come home I just don't renew the package, but as each top up has extended my "contract" for a year, my number is still available when I return. Over covid, I got a thai friend to top up my number (20baht, i think) when it was about to expire, and hey presto, another year was added.

My plan for my next trip is to top up using the kasikorn app, and add an Internet package before leaving the UK, to save going to the dtac counter at swampy, who are tourist based, and can't offer longer term packages

Exactly what I do, I check their app a couple of days before I fly for the best deal for the time I'll be there and pay via K-bank app.

I have an unlimited package with AIS that I signed up for during covid.

It cost 120 baht per month.

I top it up via my K bank, each top up extends the validity for a month.

For that price I am happy to keep it active all of the time whether at home or in country.

I'm not in Thailand long enough each time to make it viable.

Yes, i used to use dtac and have the same number for years, but then covid ...

I had been thinking go to the dtac booth at Swampy on arrival, get what i need, then go to a dtac shop at Central in Bangkok or similar to get a year added to keep the number going forward, due to this bank stuff. Update the Bank with new number which will stay mine.

I'll still resist downloading the K App, quite fine with the ATM card on holiday. I use my banking app for everything here in the UK, bjt have read to many stories of issues with the app. I suppose different if you stayed in Thailand, or stayed long trips. But i can't be bothered with hassle on 3 week trips.

I don't have the K app either, just top up via the website.

I believe most plans are unlimited, the catch is when you reach a specific data usage limit the speed is throttled back.

The plan I'm on is "(True Agent) Simthep Fast 70GB, free calls within the network 24 hours a day, receive 70GB of internet/month, usable for 1 year" and currently costs 2,099B via Lazada.

The devil in the details part is once the 70GB is used in a month the speed drops down to a paltry 128Kbps.

- 5G signal, maximum internet speed 1000 Mbps

- 4G signal, maximum internet speed 300 Mbps

(If the full amount is used, the internet will remain at 128Kbps)

I don't know about any of that, other than it works just fine for me for streaming all my stuff and has never let me down.

Very happy with the deal I am.

Some of these AIS packages are extremely good and I expect those with them are grandfathered in as I understand AIS don't offer any unlimited data, decent speed pre-paid packages now.  Only True of which I just bought one and am expecting the new SIM today/tomorrow.  This is for a home router which I watch TV through so real unlimited is necessary.

Can those with the AIS packages show the package details screen from the app as I use AIS on my mobile and it would be nice to wheedle my way onto a better package if I knew what to ask for?  This is my current one.

Which True package did you purchase? A link would be great as while my plan isn't up for renewal until January, I'm always on the lookout for a better price before then.

Quite a bit higher priced than the True data package. Is the higher price because it's an unlimited package with no speed throttling regardless of how much data is used?

I'm sure it must be.  A couple of years ago I had a dtac package that I thought was unlimited and when it started throttling I got in touch with them and it was down to me exceeding the limit of 100GB in a month, so I know I need the unlimited.

True also have a 6Mbps unlimited data that the same seller is offering from 2,790 baht so you could probably get that down to ~2,200 with discounts.

Last year was the best of all when I got full speed, unlimited data for 938 baht but I don't see anything close to that any more.

I think the phone/internet companies dont like to advertise the cheap but good 6 month or yearly deals....

I think the best thing to do is go to their shop in person and let them know you ONLY want the  inexpensive long term plan and nothing else..

Like they might still have that  938 baht plan (maybe?) but it might require insisting on it in person..

No, that was with NT and uses a frequency they lose the rights to in July this year.  It was very much a limited time deal that I lucked on to and had the equipment to utilise.  Equivalent deals at the time from AIS or dtac were around twice that and have increased again this year.

Considering I'm paying 7,691B/year for True fibre to my home, the plans mentioned in this topic are pretty good deals by comparison. And if the results from th.speedtest.net are to be believed, my 5G mobile data is a hell of lot faster than True fibre.

I'm confused.  The higher speeds are showing as from a wifi connection, not mobile data?

Doh. 🤦‍♂️ I fat fingered the wrong button to turn off WiFi on my phone. Good catch, something I should have noticed as well. Kind of surprising the WiFi connection to the same router as True fibre is higher.

Here's the result with just mobile data turned on. DL is still higher than the ethernet connection of my laptop to the router. Latency/ping is on the slow side though.
