I went into Bangkok Bank little over a week ago so they could do the facial recognition I asked them to check to make sure they have the proper passport number for my accounts and they did fair enough 15 minutes in and out. Today I was in Big c extra and as I was leaving I noticed there was no one in the AIS shop so I wandered in and figured I would make sure they had my passport number correct on my account I was pretty sure I updated it but just wanted to double check. Well they didn't told me no big deal just take my passport over to Central AIS shop and they would give me a letter stating that the number was registered with my passport.

I'm not sure I want to even bother until they contact me telling me I have to if they contact me telling me I have to.

So what would you do I'm looking for opinions since I have had zero problems with my banking and my online banking should I just leave it or should I think ahead and just go redo it and get it out of the way?

Do it in the app.

There's reports on Asean Now it's becoming a requirement that not only the name but also the passport number must match, and they seem to be quite quick about shutting you off if they don't.  No good if you're away for a while but need your banking to work.

If you ever need to get a replacement SIM with the same number you'll have to produce a passport with a number that matches the number they have on file.

The AIS app? I looked and didn't seem to find a place to do it

Yes.

Select Profile, then Update Prepaid SIM User and you should be able to do it from there.

But maybe only for prepaid users, if that's you, although if it's an option for prepay you'd think it would be somewhere around for postpay too.

I found it thank you very much and yes I qualify but I'm going to go down and do it for the simple reason the people that have had their service shut off or the app Frozen anyway from the bank needed the certificate from AIS showing that the passport was registered to that number. So I believe you need a copy of that paper anyway to show the bank but I did find it thank you very much

Looks like a trip to Central AIS will be in my future as well. This is the message I got when I tried to Update Prepaid SIM User. Probably because several years back I upgraded the SIM to allow access to the 5G network.

I'm thinking that possibly I could print the PDF of my current bill as I'm monthly and submit that to the bank. I shouldn't worry about it I guess they haven't asked me for anything and everything is working fine. But Doug another board member here that a few people know is in the US and he tried to pay a bill with his Key Bank app not Bangkok Bank and they froze the app telling him he needed to go in to verify himself. He has a backup bank so it didn't really matter but if he didn't it would have been a pain. The little problems we deal with to live in Paradise

Farking added stigmas because we live here.

Always have to contend with this bullshit, on either side of the lake.

F em.

Like you say - the cost of freedom.

Most of them would give their left nut to have what we do.

My opinion is to do what ever you need to do to comply with the rules.

I updated my passport details with both my bank and AIS last trip.

Burying ones head in the sand until a problem occurs just isn't smart in my world, but we are all different.

My missus had to do that yesterday afternoon.

She went to her SCB in Century shopping centre at Rangnam, updated her number to the new dtac that she's going to keep. Or should I say tried to update it with the bank. SCB said just nip upstairs to the dtac shop, get them to confirm it's yours with your passport, then bring back the proof (which was an official text), bring it to us, and you're all sorted, account definitely won't be closed. She doesn't have the app, like me doesn't want it as only tourists.

I said why did you have to do that, it was a new sim just bought, you had to show your passport to get it, it's the law and they know that? She said that's what they asked her to do, saying it's not us, it's Thai Gov requirement. Said it took about 15mins, no hassle as she had her passport.

Thing is, I'm with Kasikorn, had explained same to them re new regulations, change and keep number that morning. They said no problems, took the details, said it will take 3-5 working days to complete, but that's that, account fine.

I've literally just got a text from Kasikorn in Thai, which my missus told me says basically data change in progress, will complete in 2 or 3 days. I assume the number.

But then it got me thinking, so I've decided that during the last 4 days of the trip, as we'll be in Bangkok, I'll get her to come with me to the same Kasikorn i use by King Power, explain what she had to do with SCB, do i need to do the same, or not necessary for Kasikorn, as i informed them it was connected to my passport when bought?

I can't be bothered doing it now, Thai banks and their regulations stress me, do it at end of the trip. They already assured me account was now fine, won't be closed. And i think from reading stuff on here, Bangkok Bank and SCB seem to be the most 'rigid' about this kinda stuff.

I mean, it's no hassle do it, quickly get confirmation from dtac it is connected to my passport, also at the same time get confirmation if i have to put more credit in it to get it to last a year or whatever, but I can't be bothered now. I'll do it when back in Bangkok for 4 days end of trip. Don't see it being a problem, Kasikorn will either say not needed, you told us already connected, or, as I'm raising the issue, they'll say okay, go dtac get the proof! Probably with a look of 'Up to you farang'

Actually I had to do the same today( replaced the phone) discovered you can install the app with out the banks assistance but I discovered my passport had been replaced ( im sure that's the same one ) biggest hassle was the facial recognition it wouldn't work

Bank lady decided it was because I had dual Sims in there but I pointed out 1 was a e sim eventually one of I assume was a security guy went in to my settings and bingo recognition was installed

This was bank of Bangkok down on Beach rd this morning

Situations can be different for each indvidual.

I am holding off on making any sim or phone changes for as long as possible. When I do I am prepared to make the necessary changes with the banks. Sooner or later my phone will need to be upgraded. When I reach that point I will start early in the morning with a new phone in hand (I have already eyeballed a new Samsung model that is similar to what I have now, 4,000 baht), then proceed to phone service for a new SIM. Then head to the banks to register the new device and sim #'s.

Been there done that.

Once that is done I figure there may be some hiccups with other apps/services in time. When they are encounter them I will deal with them as they come.

Do you happen to know where he went in settings ? Probably changed something to "allow". But I am wondering where to find that.

I updated my banking stuff this morning at Kasikorn Udon Thani. In and out in 30mins. The girl that serves me was super helpful and efficient. Updated new passport detail, lots of form filling on an iPad ( she did) and 3 photos taken for facial recognition. She then walked me to the ATM and got me back online with my app and hey presto all done. Very happy with that.

haven’t done anything with phone as has this number for for sometime but will at some stage ass new passport number to it probably on last day here just incase it goes pear.

They never asked me for pics when I went to Kasikorn and updated all the other day. Maybe because I don't have or want the app.

Okay off to Bangkok Bank I went before I did any updates I wanted some more information. Fortunately the lady that I've been dealing with for the last 10 or 12 years was working and I waited till she was available and saw her. I explained to her my phone number which they have on the account but AIS did not have my new passport number and they suggested that I updated AIS suggested.

I asked her should I get a letter or a receipt from AIS and take back to the bank and register that with them. She told me to hang out a minute she brought up my account told me they have all the information updated despite the fact AIS did not. She said the worst thing I could do is update that number with the bank after seeing AIS. She said it would open up a can of worms and then there would be a problem. She said after looking to my account it has not been flagged for review and despite others that say it's going to happen soon they're only picking and choosing. Not every account is going to be reviewed based on how the accounts been used the time it's been open etc. Glad I didn't go to AIS and wait a half a day. Happy Days

Good info. Larry, very good.

That explains what I have been sensing for a while now....

Just think about the literally millions of accounts they have. In order to readjust all of those accounts would be an administrative/management nightmare. Not to mention if they were to do so indiscrimanantly they potentially could lose thousands if not hundreds of thousands of customers.

The banks will flag certain accounts. What do they specifically look for ? I have no idea.

But I would guess if someone has a small amount in an account and keeps it relatively active with some kind of regularity the account holder should be o.k.

Keeping the same phone number and service would probably help.

If you get flagged and/or frozen.... well, time to gather up the documents and begin to deal with it.

These examples are why I have been stressing for years now why it is important to have MULTIPLE sources available for accessing funds (wherever you may live).

I don't understand where getting a written letter from your phone company to take to your bank became a thing.

Have never heard of that.

The only thing I suggest is that both your bank and phone company have your up to date passport information.

It's to confirm the SIM card (and hence the phone number) is registered in your name, so the bank can allow your phone access to their app. Been around for some time, but only for new accounts and new app users, I think.

Phone providers are used to issuing them.... at least, dtac offered me one when I went in back in February to check I'd updated my number to include a new passport the previous year.
