Is it possible to send/put money into my Wise account and hold it there thereby creating a Thai baht balance for future use. I'm thinking when the exchange rate is good i'd do a Thai baht transfer to my Wise account for future use ie my monthly 65K income for my retirement visa extension which has to be done monthly on or about the same date each month.

Just trying to ensure when we have a good exchange rate i can make good use of it. I've had a lookie at my Wise account and i'm finding it difficult to get any good useable info on this subject that i can understand lol.

Anyone doing this already that can help with the process TIA ?

NB - Last month i got a rate of 44.68 bht when i did my transfer but this morning the rate is 43.50.

Checked now add if I wanted to I could add THB to my account, and pay for the transfer with my UK account as normal.

I don't know though would there be any charges/restrictions if you built up a large amount on your Wise account and then had to transfer it to a Thai bank

I've been buying extra THB when it's over 44 THB/GBP and holdling a larger balance on my K Bank account. Have got a couple of months worth of cash there, if it goes above 44 I'll buy some more THB🤞🤞

Thanks LK, so do i use the 'ADD' facility ? my Wise setup does immediate transfers which i don't want, i want to just keep the money in Thai baht in my account and transfer when i want to.

Good point you make regarding charges/restrictions, i can't see Wise doing anything that benefits account holders for 'nothing' lol despite them having the money until you decide to transfer.

Yes indeed but i'm thinking of my Wise account holding the Thai baht i have purchased at the good rate for future transfers to my Bangkok Bank account. Its just me no doubt but i really don't want tooooooo much dosh in my Thai bank account, i just don't trust Thailand when dealing with farangs.

I think you can , but would it be missing from your Thai account if you get a visa with the 65000 baht income ? Until its in the account would it be deemed as a transfer.

Yes it would not show in your Thai account as its in your Wise account but i can just transfer into my Thai account when i need to meet the 65k income each month and i would have enjoyed buying the Thai baht at the higher rate.

Yes I just press the green "Add money" button in the app and select the currency I want to add.

You can also hold GBP and get paid interest on your balance , but you need to turn on that function

https://wise.com/gb/interest/

You can hold multiple currencies, so topping up your Thai funds isn't an issue , then as you say send the funds to Bangkok Bank when required

Revolut is similar and I currently have £, €, $ and Baht on my card

Thanks mate, i'm gonna give it a try later and i'll report back. I don't want to upset my current set up as it meets all my requirements for transfer to meet my retirement extension monthly income as a FTT (foreign transaction transfer)

In fact i won't try to transfer Thai baht into my account just yet as the rate is pretty low, i'll wait until it gets over 44bht to the pound, here's hoping lol

The process of sending to Bangkok Bank changed a few weeks ago.  If you initiate and fund a transfer before 10:00am ish it'll get to Bangkok Bank just after 2:00pm on the same day, if after that cutoff time it'll be 2:00pm the next working day so beware of weekends and holidays.  All receipts to Bangkok Bank now seem to be marked as International Transfers.

Times are Thai times.

Now you mention the green ''Add money'' button in the app, are you referring to your PC or your smartphone ?

I don't think its the same procedure and as i'm not using my smartphone for anything other than the basics i have a problem (Com Dino no 1 here)

Well the messing around i've been doing trying to set up the baht transfer balance facility has prompted Wise to request verification ID for my account and that is causing me some problems, once again having to use my smartphone for pics/transfer etc.

Luckily for me BM Miko lives close by and he's coming round this morning to help me out, bless him:default_goodjob:

Either one as they're pretty similar.  Here's a screenshot from the website using my laptop.

And here's one from the app on my phone.

I was referring to my Smartphone, but thankfully a more helpful BM has answered😛

Good that tech support are on the way around! Will be interested to hear how it all works out when you are up and running, and doing transfers throught to your Thai Bank.

Well guys i  thought i would give it a go so i opened up my Wise account and was doing really well in setting up what i wanted namely the opportunity to put Thai baht into my account as a balance and hold until i wanted to transfer to my BB Thai account to meet general living expenses and to comply with Immigration rules for 65K monthly income extensions.

BOOM BOOM, the above requirements CANNOT be met in so much as i cannot hold Thai baht in my account only GBP thereby not being able to take advantage of higher exchange rates.

BOOM BOOM BOOM, low and behold Wise have now suspended my account and require me to verify my identity by way of various options of how to achieve.

So i'm off to BB tomorrow to hopefully achieve a bank official letter in ENGLISH (Thai script is NOT accepted) of confirmation stating my name and address as the account holder. WHAT A F*** UP !!!!

A big thanks to my mate BM Miko for all his help, i could'nt have gone through this process without his help :default_goodjob:

Well good luck with BB tomorrow and hopefully this can be sorted out and you will be able to hold THB.

Thought Wise were pretty decent, so fingers crossed!!

Thanks, well i've sent Wise a P60 as they will accept anything from HMRC providing it has my name and address and its not more than 3 months old. Its has no date as such but it quotes its for the tax year 5 April 2025, i wonder if they will accept, here's hoping.

Has anyone else had to do this for Wise ? I'm wondering if they would accept a Residency certificate from Immigration ?

From what I can make out, Wise seems to want more verification when you decide to do something different from what you normally do.

So far I haven't had any issues  transferring similar amounts from the same bank account to the same account in Thailand.

Now that is tempting fate isn't it? :default_268213:

BINGO, all i've ever done with Wise is to transfer dosh once a month and i've never had any problems for the 5/6 years i've been using them. All my transfers also show they are international transfers so no probs with Thai Immigration for my visa extensions.

Now i decided to have a real in depth look at wise and my account and low and behold its prompted this verification request nonsense. If i get much more shit from them i'll close the account and go back to doing Swift transfers direct from HSBC to my Bangkok Bank account and accept the lower exchange rate offered by BB, its just not worth the hassle but hopefully when i renew my Thai driving licence that will be accepted because its got ALL the info they need in Thai and ENGLISH 👍

Well they declined to accept my HMRC P60 as it does'nt have HMRC's address at the top as the issuer because its issued by my pension provider. I pointed out to them if they bothered to read the P60 they would see that it refers to HMRC.

They really are being pedantic......

Residency certificate no good as its not in English.

Does it need their address or just their logo?

If it's just a logo there's a printable page in the PAYE Income Tax History section on the Government Gateway site which has this.  Not sure what other requirements Wise have but might be worth a try.

Good question but to be on the safe side i would look to provide them with as much info as possible so i'll be looking to get my Bangkok Banks address included if possible. I'm hoping my bank branch can come up with what i need, we will see.

Thanks for your helpful post.
