Haven't been to Monsoon in Bangkok but it was always my main place, the Mrs said the Thai food there is excellent and I loved my Steak, the sauce and the potato thing they serve with it.

The Mrs actually said it's the best she ever had and she's Thai, some kind of duck curry or something like that, I wasn't paying attention - but she ate the same thing every time we went there.

At this point....

Monsoon - Bangkok

Gekko Gardens - Chiang Mai

Robin Hood - Pattaya

Robin Hood too expensive....

Tigglebitties the food is fantastic and prices are more modest...Which is why I have ordered from them at least 100 times...I vote Tigglebitties....

My interpretation on Robin Hood prices is slightly different.  I would say there is a range of prices from reasonable to expensive and it depends very much on what you choose from the menu.  While not mentioned here I think the same can be said for Sizzlers.

Robin Hood used to be one of my go to places , but last couple of trips I felt the quality of the food had dropped

Mine change al the time!! Current picks

Samsen Villa- Phaya Thai. Superb Thai food in a restaurant that has picked up Michelin award in the past, yet suprisingly not that expensive

Apfel Cafe- Lad Phrao, small family run place. No a big menu but everything they do is superb. Normally I'd go for their superb  Massaman curry (120 Baht), and dessert carrot cake(60 baht) and a coffee. The carrot cake is the best I've ever tasted, the coffee is served in a proper china mug and they've that spot on too

Thai seafood restaurant-no faranag name!! (ร้านอาหารสนามเป้าซีฟู้ด  )- This is south of Sanam Pao BTS on the the Rock Pub side heading toward Victory Monument. Open at around 6, handful of tables in the street and a queue of Thais. Run by a mother and daugther, seafood is the speciality, it's wonderful but hard to catch at the right time to get a table. Google maps mislocates it's slightly, its the one in an alley in front of a small 7-11

Of the one's above I love Vessuvio, never had a bad meal at Monsoon but it's just too hot in there for me now. The lady owns the Brewhouse, Viva, Monsoon amongst others she can afford to invest in a new AC unit for the main room.

I love Vessuvio and fine with the fans it's cool enough. Ate in Monsoon last night month, busy dinning room, indedequate AC and the open kitchen kicking out heat, it was really uncomfortable even though the food was great as always.

Yes...  Higher prices but you get very large portions. Often get two meals out of it. Example - Chicken Kiev.

👍 Vesuvio has some of the best pizzas I've had ( not just in Thailand)

I agree. Some of the best pizza I have ever had.

I have never been a ‘foodie’, always liked nice simple food.

In my pre vegetarian days, as I was last time I visited Thailand, I always liked Rosie O’Grady’s down Soi 7 in Pattaya. Did a great fry up and nice evening meals as well and good value for money.

Also Secrets food was really good.

I interpreted the thread title to mean restaurants you favored/liked the most rather than 'best' restaurants in the Michelin star food quality scenario. If it was still around with the same cooks, I'm with you on Secrets.

The fact that Det5 still greets you with the scented cool towel in a pleasant shaded outdoorand indoor setting gets them on my list for Bangkok.

Fucking free entertainment watching Dave and the wife kicking off, nevermind the culinary extravaganza of the apple crumble!

Mange Tout, Rodney, Mange tout!

I didn’t mean it like mentioning the best restaurants, just that I am happy eating from a food stand as much as a restaurant.

As long as the food is good I don’t care where it comes from.

🙂

Det5 does a great Penang curry.

+1 for the food at Secrets,  especially the Lasagne.

Even the best restaurant and/or cook can have a bad a day and make a horrible meal. Likewise even the worst restaurant and/or cook can a good day and make a wonderful meal.

I hate spending money on myself. I have had loads of edible meals in Patts, but only twice something truly horrible. One was Bronx Pizza on my last trip, the cheese tasted like melted plastic. The other was Hungry Gorilla in the Arcade a few years ago, black hairs in fried fish.

Went to Hungry Gorilla again on my last trip mostly because daily menu appealed to me. Roast duck, simple, cheap but good.

Indeed.

A shitty pizza can spoil a day.
