john luke Posted August 30, 2025 Posted August 30, 2025 Recently, there has been a conflict between Apple, the UK Government, and to some extent the European Union regarding the accessibility of encrypted data on iPhones. I understand that Apple restricted certain aspects of its encryption system for the UK market. While I do not intend to engage in political discussions, I have a question that arises from this situation: if an individual purchases an iPhone in Thailand, does it retain all the Apple encryption systems, and will these systems continue to function if the phone is subsequently brought to and used in the EU or UK?
KWA Posted August 30, 2025 Posted August 30, 2025 No. Advanced data protection will be disabled when the phone is used in the UK, although it's not quite that straightforward. https://support.apple.com/en-us/122234 2

Instead, UK users will be given a period of time to disable the feature themselves to keep using their iCloud account." It will be interesting to see what happens to users who choose not to disable. 1
