Wasn't it 400k in '98? I could be wrong though because I was doing visa runs at that time .. Not sure when it went to 800k though but I remember there being quite a kerfuffle 1

Laawman Posted October 3, 2025 Posted October 3, 2025 Some say it was 2008, and others say 1998 such as in the below transcript. https://www.legal.co.th/resources/corporate-and-tax-advisory/thailand-corporate-law/thailand-tales-evolution-financial-criteria-retirement-visas/ Take your pick! Either way, I wouldn't be surprised if it was increased.

I don't disagree and I don't think it'll be long before they raise it and I wouldn't be surprised if they don't grandfather the people that are in at 800,000. I continue to get Thai government medical insurance because of my working situation I would not be surprised to wake up one morning and read that they have canceled that for all the foreigners that eligible because of working here. Wouldn't surprise me a single bit Edited October 3, 2025 by Yesitisdakid 4 1

Flying down to Georgetown and checking in at a cheap hotel in the Chinese quarter, then getting Mr Moto to do the double entry tourist visa. Rinse and repeat after another 6 months. Then again, it seemed worth it then but not so sure I would put up with the hassle nowadays - things have changed and not really in a positive direction. 1 1

Well, of course we were a lot younger then and I was working in Bangkok since 96 so was quite loaded!! No problems flying down to Singapore staying at the hotel behind Orchard Towers that had a rear entrance to sneak the girls in (and a Singaporean married woman that used to meet up!!). I remember a restaurant called Monkey something in between hotel and Orchard where I'd have lunch......Sundays were Bar 392 for a Filipina Maid takeaway .. No visa .... just fly in out every 3 months .. 2 2
