Good to see a relatively simple technology again saved lives.

United Flight 4339 was arriving from Dulles International Airport shortly before 10 p.m.

The plane overshot the landing and when it touched down, there wasn’t enough runway stop, according to Virginia State Police.

The jet ended up on the engineered materials arresting system (EMAS), which is a bed of engineered materials designed to minimize damage in the event of a plane going off the runway.

No injuries to the 53 passengers and crew on board have been reported.

All passengers traveling September 25 in and out of ROA are urged to check with their airlines for flight statuses.
