There is a thread running over on our sister board, Pattaya Addicts on this topic.

I am cross posting this -

I first stayed At Nana hotel in June/ July 1978.

I was 26 at the time and had been in the PI , mainly AC for 3 months and my 90 day visa was about to expire.

I could have got it renewed in PI but decided to go to Thailand instead on a Visa run.

First couple nights stayed at Park Inn on a soi up Asoke way on the uneven number side of Sukhumvit, but they were arseholes about my overnight female companions so I moved down to Nana hotel where an acquaintance I had made in AC was staying.

Nana hotel was fairly newish - maybe 15 years old, but there was probably an older part of the building going back further.

The Nana hotel Coffee shop still had some older freelancers from the Vietnam War era. Nana itself was a US R&R hotel back in the day.

In 1978 there was no Soi Cowboy, no Nana Plaza the closest action apart from slim pickings at Nana Coffee Shop and The Heidelberg Restaurant across the road on Soi 4 was the Coffee Shop in the basement of the Grace hotel .

It wasn't bad and I have good memories of it and the ladies who frequented it. Farang and middle eastern mongers frequented the Grace without problems as the middle eastern types preferred heavier women etc as they still seem to (maybe a  stereotype?).

Patpong was of course in its heyday and was readily accessible by a short taxi ride. It sure had some top notch slim spinner talent in those days. 😁

So Nana hotel still has heaps of fond memories for me, but its years since I've stayed there.

I am still mongering in Pattaya after all these years although my first trip to Pattaya was about 1986. It was more a BKK scene back then for a while....

I'd still stay at Nana hotel if in BKK, even if just for old times sake...

I stayed there a few times in the 90's and early 2000's , it was very convenient for FLs , but it was already showing its age ... I also stayed at the Grace a few times , again the coffee shop was very useful to have downstairs

Always wanted to stay at the grace just to say that I did but I never had the opportunity. But really loved the Nana in the early days.

First night I ever stayed in Bangkok was spent at the Tawanna Ramada, near Patpong. A mate from Standard bank in Brunei put me on to the Nana area, so the 2nd trip was spent at the Nana.

Got a suite, although that doesn't really fall in line with most other decent suites in better hotels. Coffee shop downstairs was a great place to pick up a girl who had just come downstairs from another liaison. Great location, but nowadays I prefer a quieter area for my stays.

My first hotel in Bangkok was The Ambassador on Soi 11

I've stayed in a few others over recent years The Darwin , Majestic Grande , Citadines ( 8 , 11 & 16 )  , Dynasty Grande , Galleria , Adelphi Suites & Night Hotel

My first Bangkok hotel was the S33 which was handy for Soi Cowboy but a fair walk to Soi Nana which quickly became my favourite hangout.

I’ve since stayed at Adelphi Suites, Phachara Suites and the last few years at Citrus Suites Soi 6

I never did stay in the Nana - I chose the Dynasty across the road instead which was okay for the time. I did get into a couple of the Nana rooms when I was meeting friends some years later and I wasn't impressed, the rooms were old and tired at that time. I was certainly impressed by my first visit to the Angels Disco in 2002 - wall to wall freelancers and there I was with a date for the night, silly me...

There were mongers who lived full time at Nana Hotel, older gents many who had some very nice dolly birds hanging off their arms.

They made the numbers of the lounge lizards, familiar faces watching the world go by from a comfortable armchair, guess they had to leave when Nana closed during Covid.

I never stayed at the Nana hotel, the word on the street was that it was in need of a reno so i opted for the Dynasty Grande in Soi 6 and what a great hotel that was/is and i always stay there now. No doubt the Nana's location opposite the NEP was a major attraction but the DG was only a little walk to NEP.

Best I can say is I dined at Nana's restaurant. The few times I stayed in Bangkok it was at the JW Marriott using points and at the Majestic.

I enjoyed the ambience of the food trays that were always left on the floor in the hallway outside of the the rooms.

On the way in I would sometimes be tempted to see what was left on the plates.

May 1981 was the first time, don't remember arriving as I was drunk as a skunk from the flight from Dhahran.Sat with two Canadian oil workers & in the end the hostess just gave us a bottle of scotch to save her time.In the afternoon I'd sobered up a bit & picked up a girl in the afternoon disco downstairs.

I kept saying to myself I have to go to a different hotel but I'd get so f***d up on the flights I'd always wake up in the Nana & never remember checking in.

It was different when I worked in Oman from 1983,guys that I worked with told me about the Honey on Soi 19,which was much more convenient for Cowboy, but I still very rarely remembered arriving.

That was my regular hotel for years. I think I've posted before about the room connecting to the car park and the strong possibility of carbon-monoxide poisoning.

They used to have a nice big tray of bacon at brekkie that you could really pig out on.

The breakfast was pretty decent really.

It was just the challenge of getting up in time. Lol
