Looks like Stickman is finally calling it a day , I used to be a regular reader until around ten years ago when he left the Kingdom ... I think I found the site before I found any forums and used to look forward to the Sunday morning posts ( UK time ) and especially the reader's submissions

Fewer Western men (who make up the vast majority of readers) visit the bars these days. For some years now, middle-aged white guys are being replaced by young East Asians, and young / middle-aged Indians. Neither of these groups have much interest in a column like this.

Walking street is a perfect example of this....

Some guys liked him some guys didn't. He was always good to me especially during my working days. The amount he sold his site for when he did sell it or he sold most of it he retained a small amount I think would shock anyone. He asked me not to say so I can't but I was definitely shocked at what he got for the site. I wouldn't be surprised to see him resurface in a few months or a year or two.

Very early on during the secrets forum days he contacted me saying he had joined the forum and he was going to promote it the following week on his Sunday weekly. True to his word he made mention of it and membership skyrocketed that day I seem to recall us getting almost 400 new members.

Like him or dislike him he had his following I wish him the best until he returns. Kind of like a monger once you come here it's hard to quit. I think it's going to be the same with him

I like the guy. He was stuck in his ways though, as are many, and bad at reacting to change as social media evolved. Had his Warhol 15 minutes of fame and credit to him, he played that well but people moved on and it was past time for him to either change or move along himself.

I too hope he returns as he's an other source of entertainment about Thailand.

I still refer to Nana hotel as the mothership.

Reminds me of Harry The Horse, who used to have a very informative column in all things Angeles related. Always an interesting read.

An American who lived up the perimeter, he ran or owned the Blue Boar Inn. Had one of the best hot sauce collections in the whole of the Philippines.

Gave up his column some years back, and handed the writing to a younger guy who never understood how to communicate with an audience expecting the same, well written, column.

Sadly he died a few months back in June. Believe Jim was his real name. Met him only once at his hotel.

I got a lot of good information from the horse back in the day the site's a fraction of what it used to be.

I only heard about and visited the bar via his promotion.

Picked up some great info from him down the years. To keep that column going from 1998 is a major achievement.Recent years not so good but he's reporting on a dwindling demographic.

Good luck to him🙂

I was a Stickman fan back in the day and would send in submissions from time to time. He was very helpful to anyone who asked for advice.
But what ticked me off in the end was when he relocated to NZ and continued posting his column for some time without revealing he was no longer in the Kingdom. The column just seemed to me to not be the genuine real on the ground report that it once was.
But having said that , he did more good than harm and I thank him and wish him well

I thought he was open about his moving back to NZ. I do agree though he often wrote his columns after the move back as if they were first hand accounts rather than from sources living in Thailand.
